Thank you for all the kind replies
As promised here is a update from my Balinese adventure, the first are the first finished concepts for the initial character Tiffa and I are creating, At the moment we are calling her “the messenger” she has already begun the headdress and I will post some pics as it materializes.

The other image was an abstract piece that we are drawing visual inspiration for the runway show. It explores some of the mood and color pallet we wanted for some of the characters, the two figures were extracted from out of the chaos.

The last two pics are a few teaser shots from some traditional DVD footage I was able to shoot in Bali. You can see a glimpse into the drawing table/alter I was working with, heavy magic was abundant there.

I have another surprise in store that may bee revealed later today.

That’s it for now, lots more to come soon

inspirtional direction

dvd teaser images

this was the last good shot before i spilt red candle wax all over the image

.................................................. .................................................. ............

1-23-07.............................Greetings from Bali!!!
Yes , if you open up the concept art members world map and see a lonely little red X in Indonesia that’s me.

You may be wondering what the hell im doing out here.?? I was invited by Tiffa Novoa one of the founders of the legendary Ernte Fashion Systems http://www.erntefashionsystems.com/
To collaborate on a series of new designs for her next show in Paris

Here is a link to some of the classic Ernte designs http://www.erntefashionsystems.com/m...Page/index.htm
Her work is like a tribal/mad max/ancient future. Basically they are what I consider some of the most incredible clothing designs I have ever seen. She sells most of her designs to celebrities and rock stars like Madonna.

Tiffa is one of the most awesome real life character designers I have ever met and it was a dream to work with her ever since I first did some airbrushing at one of her shows in la last year.

Tiffa and I have brainstorming and drawing every day. As I paint she sculpts, and sews. We scoured the antique stores for bones, feathers, fabric and animal parts to create new headdresses. We scored a bunch of crazy animal skulls from Borneo and some really badass lace (I cant believe I just typed that)

Bali is one of the most amazing places I have ever traveled to. It’s a city full of artisans. As you ride your dirt bike down the one-lane streets almost every other store/shack is full of craftsman making something, woodcarvings, textiles, clothing, furniture. It’s an artists dream to be here, the spirits of manifestation are strong.

And speaking of spirits, the Balinese are some of the most spiritual people I have ever seen, there are temples shrines altars and daily offerings to the gods everywhere. Here they make sacrifices to appease their gods and the demons. Their spirits are well fed and strong and you can feel it in the air, it is a truly supernatural place to be.

I wake up in the morning to rosters crowing and at night you can hear the drumming and chanting of gamelans in the distance.

While im here im looking into getting some woodcarvings of a few of my drawings. The craftsman can turn any sketch into 3d wood, jade or mammoth tusk sculptures. Old school 3d modeling. My orthographic skills come in handy down here

Im taking lots of pictures and doing a little filming that will be inserted into a DVD.
I will post up some of the drawings once I return home to a decent scanner, until then some digital work will have to suffice for the moment.

“Mother”
Tiffa and I are working within the theme of the goddess,

Tiffa has bleached this onto silk scarves and they just left a few days ago for a show in Paris. I’m going to bring some extras home with me.

I will be updating this thread with new work as it becomes available.
Until then “Selamat Tinggal”

Sounds like a blast. I've heard nothing but good things about Bali and it's people. The art is awesome as usual. You're able to blend spiritual dark and light elements so well. This piece definately speaks to me as the oneness of all, positive/negative, good/bad, etc. Great stuff.

Nice!

I spent some time in Bali a few years ago.
I recommend driving over to Petulu for sunset one of these days.
White cranes flock there by thousands every evening.
They say they are the spirits of soldiers lost in battle, returning home.
Either way, its a nice place to chill and have a soda.

Also, if you are around Ubud, stop into Murni's place.
She is incredibly nice, and her restaurant is awesome.
She is very well respected around the area and really knows a ton of things to do.
She took us to a wedding when we were there (I think it was her niece's).
It really was one of the coolest things I've ever witnessed.

The pieces look great, and Tiffa's designs are awesome.
I hope you enjoy yourself while you're there.

(are you sitting in a cyber-cafe right now with an aggravatingly slow internet connection?)

That sounds like an amazing experience and you must be having a whale of a time Andrew.
You really have taken some interesting turns with your work and career and proven that concept art doesn’t just have to be about men with big guns and busty women.
Nice work as always chap and I'm looking forward to seeing more tasty pics.

impressive good sir. What an experience.
Your godess looks really great once printed on fabric.I like it a lot.
In colour she has a psycho drug/shaman feeling, in white on dark, she turns into a gothic/tribal icon. Congrats.

Wow , cool man. you must be having a blast out there.
If you can, try to make it out to Koh Samui, there used to be these gigantic
beach party's called " the full moon party's " held every month or so.

The design you posted looks beautiful ! This must be a hell of an experience.
try to make the best out of it Andrew. Good luck !

i could stare at the picture forever...it's like your ideas only stop for alittle gas at your hands and then drive directly onto the paper/medium. one can see that you have a good time in bali, cause this piece has a certain vibe of spirituality in it that can't really be explained.
man, words over internet can't explain how wonderfully all of this (painting and where you are) affects the mind. i'm really lookin forward to our next meeting,i wanna hear some good stories from you and suck up the air of wonder. and this time i won't be half drunk all the time. no excuses!

WoW! That's a beautiful image, Andrew! I've just spent a while deciphering all the balinese (?) figures intermingled with the background and i love the indonesian influence in the design. And that's a wonderfully haunting face as a centerpiece...

It looks like you and Tiffa are a match made in fashion heaven, and i've gotta take my hat off and congratulate you both on an intriguing start. So where's it all gonna lead.........................?

I can't wait to see more.

(And i'm so envious... What an experience!)
