Good stuff here! You seem to have a really consistent style which is a good thing. I like the first four the best, as more work has probably gone into them they look better than the others imo. Anatomy needs to be worked on, especially on the Gargoyles. Generally though everything looks pretty good.
Keep this updated and take on board what people suggest, thats the best piece of advice i can give you. If you do, you should see the improvement in your work. Keep it up going and welcome to CA! |

Pencil Sketches
I have managed to find some spare time to scan my pencil sketches. In the past I only produced pieces using the line art technique and a fine liner. I felt I was going now where with that medium, so I decided to broaden my horizons. I am reasonably new to producing pencil renders but from what I have done I can definitely say that I love to produce pencil renders, not as much as ps paintings thou
. I could just post all of my pencil renders to this date but some of them are completely worthless (trust me ). So I am not just picking and choosing what to post. As always be harsh, as you want. Right here goes…………. I will start with my most earliest. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dont ask why I decided to add the Ikea logo on to my design. I dont even know. lol ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ONE I MY FAVOURITES Iam going paint this peice with photoshop, some time in the very near future. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() THIS IS ANOTHER FAVOURITE I am also going to paint this in the very near future. Yeah since this sketch book is a journal cataloging the development of my skills. I will add a quick sketch, I done last night. It took my roughly 30mins. ![]() From now i will be posting every peice I produce, for constructive critism/feedback. As always be as harsh as you wish.

Heh, the apple
am still hung up on mine (same tut).Anyway, drawing out of your head is a bit like maths, let’s say it’s an equation. Ok, think of a formula giving you one solution. In my head the formula is light and substance, equals one solution. In this case the solution is an illusion on paper or digi. Eye, also known as a drawing. Heh, that's the most basic explanation I will give you, for now. Of course the formula takes into regard, the substance's shape, texture and colour. And not to forget the light’s straight paths it travels onto the substances making it seen, to also include the reflected of light from other substances or objects correctly, is to me, all maths. But right now, my advice for your first step is, to practice drawing perspective, endlessly, with simple objects without light or texture (basically just line drawings). For example drawing squares, triangles and cylinders. For this, tutorials are everywhere explaining the perspective in detail. You might think this is below your belt, but I warn you now. Those things help you later when studying the anatomy. You want to draw a body and all shapes and forms in all angles, perfectly? Well, then this first task will catapult you to it. Just in case I won’t get back to you. Your second task would be learning the anatomy. But when you do go off drawing humans. I want you to approach it differently… When you search for a reference, get one that hasn’t got any shadow or texture on it. Because I know, out of my own experience and see it in others, too much information confuses. So, get a lined drawing of a body (you want to see muscles sectioned clearly), which is easy to understand and should get you started in no time. (One more) And when you do draw of references, make sure you draw over them or another one from your head alone, implementing simple objects (cylinders, squares, so on), for body parts and muscles. If you are confused to what I am saying or why you should do it like this? It is because through the first task, you will have gained the ability to take into consideration angles and perspective. Eventually, after perfecting the first task, it will boost you, helping you to imprint what you study on anatomy with ease.

I'm gonna subscribe to this because I like what you have here and I want to see how you progress using the information given to you by others. I think your study of anatomy could use more time and effort as I see that you skip learning the individual parts and go straight to full figure. I suggest taking it one piece at a time and getting really involved with an individual aspect. I think that you can make your studies more effective if you do it that way.
Also, I suggest (if you haven't that is) picking up a set of pencils that range from 6h-6b and using those to shade and sketch. I remember being told to watch out for shading in a single "tone". That would really help bring better contrast to your pieces in the end. Another thing, it seems that you are fairly comfortable with animals, objects an a few other things. I think drawing from life with some models (you can either get them from friends, family members, or strangers) would improve the line structure when it comes to drawing people. Drawing from life forces you to focus on important information regarding those of the subject, and you have to either work quickly or more slowly to develop the interesting parts more clearly. For quicker improvement on your life/model studies, I suggest removing yourself from the comfort zone you are in and make yourself sketch the troubling/harder parts until you are fully comfortable with those and then repeat the process. This shoud develop your understanding of the various subjects more deeply and will reward yourself in the final outcome. Hope that wasn't too much information and you kinda understoo that. Now I just need to follow that advice myself and see where it takes me.. Keep at it!

Cheers Cold for philosophy that drawing out of your head is like a mathematical formula. I think I understand your statement but I know for a fact it will become even clearer though time and more practice.
I am definitely going to get cracking with the first task, even thou it is kind of under my belt. Its okay thou because I will be strengthening those core skills for further improvement with my other skills. Hey Saikin thanks for taking notice to my sketch book and showing an interest, on how I progress with the development of my drawing skills. Yeah I new that sooner or later I would have to purchase a full set of 6h-6b pencils. They will probably be mechanical ones. Thanks for actually making that I need a full range of pencils, more clear to myself. Yeah I have been meaning to try and find out whether my student union or university offer figure-drawing lessons. I guess I need to get of my arse and find out once and for all. I am definitely going to bound straight out of my comfort zone regularly in the future. Remember guys I am at university so I may not be posting regularly due to amount of uni work I have to do. I will be also throwing in my uni work as it progresses, expect for the boring written work. Thanks a lot guys. It is most appreciated.

Latest ps painting
This painting has nothing to do with perspective, expect for the shadow.
This is a painting of one of my previous sketches. I only did a quick basic background. In the near future I will paint a landscape background for the character to kneel in. For now she is knelt in a very simple 'experimental' background. I belive it works reasonbly well for a background. It gives the peice a kind of simple sleek design and it dosnt revert your eyes from the character. What do you guys think? Does it work? ![]()

Not a bad chick you got there...Only thing I can see that is taking away from her is the face. I think the lips are too small nd the end of them shouldn't curve up like that (again, may be the actual size that affects it so). Also, the eye looks a tad small also.
But nice folds and shadows. I like the perspectives you got going on there above.

Cheers Saikin I will edit that.
I did try to give her a little smirk by giving the lips a little extra curve and adding a shadow to emphasis her cheek muscle slightly contracting, as it would if some one was smirking. Since it dont look like what I would of hoped for, I will edit it how you think it should of looked. Cheers pal.

I was searching through my work today and I found this castle concept which I did a few months back.
Yeah since iam studying perspective, I though I would throw this in my sketch book. I use marker on this peice The idea behind this castle concept is that it has been bulit into the side of some chalk cliffs next to the sea(like the white cliffs of dover). The castle/garrison is in the middle of a courtyard. From the court yard there are many entrances to that lead into a labyrith. ![]()

These aint great but who cares.
I had to rush these to peices because I had a deadline to meet and I was running out of time ![]() ![]() This is a edited passport photo of myself. I created this mainly for a cool looking myspace picture. Stuff like this isnt really revalent in these types of forums but I liked how the peice turned out. So why not post it? ![]() This one is another peice which I generated from a picture. The picture is of my cousin skating on a ramp. He ask me to create a graphical/urban image so he could jazz up his myspace. ![]() Before you say. Yes I did ripp off the 123 Klan cloud designs!

More perspective stuff
This evenings creation
![]() I was battling to get the correct shape with this design. The front wedge shape really challenged me because it was difficult to capture the depth and width of the shape. The shape is surrposed to have far more depth than width but I still had to manage to capture width of the shape because without much width the shape looked 'lob sided'. What do you fellas think? More depth than width? Or more width than depth? (I may paint this one)

Hey man, nice range of work, you seem to be having planal issues handling your perspective. Try and nail the horizon line early and then place both points on it.
On the previous design the pilot wouldn't be able too see out the front unless he was too look through the grill. Don't know if that was intentional, but you put glass in so i wasn't sure. The designs have been improving fast though!! The perspective is much more solid than the earlier ones. The girl further up looks like she has no legs from the knees down, try throwing in some feet, or fabric moving to suggest feet. Nice dedication though AK, nice too see more of the Uk'ers about. Hope all is well in Preston. -B- |

I definatley notice now that I havent really thought about were the horizon line sat. It really stands out like a swore thumb. I dont know why I had forgot about the horizon line. I guess that means I have to go back and study the properties of a horizon lines.
I had issues when sketching the women. No matter what I did to the pose and angle it seemed that she was missing the lower part of her legs. With the sketch and tryed to capture the shape of her legs through the light cloth of her skirt. When it came to painting it in PS, I should of paid more attention when trying to capture the shape of her legs through the cloth. I shouldnt have rushed that bit of the peice. I would want to correct this, but I am studying persepctive at the moment but I will definatley take your advice on board when I come back to this peice and peices I produce in the future. Thanks for the constructive advice and thanks for paying attention to my sketch book. I really appreciate it! Preston is a bit of shit hole and I can't wait away from the place but I cant leave until I finnish my uni course ![]()

No offence but dont compare me to other people especially fellow students. We are all here to learn not to cut each others throats. Again thanks for the compliment. I really appreaciate it.
