Cornu's sketchbook

Hello everyone,

A little introduction : I am 26 years old and I live in Paris, France, hence my poor english :)
I used to draw from time to time ( like twice a year ... ) but I never took the time to practice seriously.
A few days agos, I decided that I would focus on drawing and try to improve through practice. I enjoy drawing, and I just start to understand what people mean when they say : "learn to see".

Q :Why another thread with uglish newby sketches ?
A :Sort of an engagement for me, now I have to update this thread, so I have to draw.
A :I hope to get some feedback from you all on how to improve, what exercices I should do and comments in general.

So first, I took my skechbook, a paper-pen and went to Le Louvre museum, where there are so many great statue to practice :

Alexandre le Grand

Victoire de Samothrace

Hercule

A few random sketch from a trip in Vancouver :

What kind of daily exercices should I do to improve ? I am scared of drawing face.

Cornu

Welcome to CA Le Cornu :-)

Im not good at drawing either.
But Id recommend to always inlude a background.

To use a softer pencil .... do really quick sketches .. you are more likely to "see" than if U sit down & try to concentrate on getting things right first time .
Or first do a few sketches in order to relax & then approach the detailed drawing.

Id recommend the Andrew Loomis instruction books .. U can find them for free if U search (lots of pages .. quite intimidating I think) .

Always have something to sketch with U. - well I heard that that is what one should do :-)

Good start .. try to do the different shades of light U see instead of the outline of the body shapes - describing the shape of the body .

Well there are a million learning things on CA & dont get frightend by all these artists who are really good ... I just try 2 sometimes not look so that I dont get discouraged.

Just my C+C
