Man was the *** Live Painting Demo !!! *** at the SI last weekend fun. But the one thing that would have made it better is me jumping in on the action, or the handfull of other great up-and-comers in the audience. So in the sprit of the original i am organizing one for the masses. Anyone who brings their own supplies is welcome to join in. I'll provide some things. others mentioned that they will bring extra goodies for us to share. so here are the details so far.

Date: Sunday September 25th (i know its not a lot of time to make plans but oh well)

Time: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM (maybe 7:00)

Where: Central Park, NYC (scouting out several locations this weekend - so far its at the big fountain in the center of the park at 72nd street or at the Pond on the east side and 59th st.)

as far as what to bring with you:
Bring wahtever you want to draw and paint with. If you want to participate bring some canvases, brushes, paints, wahtever. I have some oil paint that i will share but its not a lot. I'll also try to bring some primed boards to share, but it is a safer bet if you bring your own stuff. If someone brings a stereo with some good tunes i'll be happy (good tunes means anything that is NOT on the radio) also its a BYOB and BYOFood party, but i'll try to bring my Vodka bottle.

Thanks for getting this going. I won't be be able to make it until 3:00. But if we're painting til 6 or 7 that should work. My usual easel is not portable- what kind of easel and set up do you have? I might need to make a trip to the art store.

I'll def. try to make it. I don't have an easel and all my oils are at home. I guess I'll just bring a ton of random stuff, watercolors, gouache, some colored inks etc etc. I need to goto the art store tomarrow anyways so maybe i'll pick up some more stuff to use while im there.

I think i've been around that area in the park so hopefully i wont get too lost.

Thats sounds awesome!! I wasn't there last weekend so what are we actually doing tomorrow? Painting lanscapes? because I'm in. I met you by the way at the Spectrum opening night. hey hey, I just got some masonite and i'm about to go prime it for tomorrow.

Snowsfall - earlier in this post i wrote my cell for those of you that are directionally challenged. Tattoo it on your hand or something.

Dan - Sorry to hear that you can't make it. I want to do another one in October, maybe yuo'll be able to make that one.

Tiffany - glad to hear that you're gonna come out for this. I'm planning to do a little landscape painting and some colabs as well. I got some Oil Sticks so i'll try thr Rick Berry technique.



just a quick disclamer - i just walked past the place we're meeting tomorrow, and the lawn is closed for reseeding. There's a sign that says it will reopen tomorrow but just in case it doesnt, i'll be on the hill next to it. Also, if i'm not there at 11:00 am on the dot please be patient with me. i have a ton of shit to carry and so far no one has volunteered to help me out.

This is cool. Hopefully I'll make it by 3:00. I'll bring a big drawing pad and graphite sticks. It will be much easier to transport on the Subway from Brooklyn.

thank you everyone for coming out today.

i learned 2 things today:
1: i still suck at the oils.
2: as much as this is a blow to my already fragile ego, there are people in this world that are way younger than me and way better too. all this time i was living in denial. today was a good step into accepting the fact and learning to live with it.

It was great fun. My hands are going to be multi-colored and smelling like turp for a week. Now that's something I can't get Painter or Photoshop to do.

I don't know if anyone took any pictures. I saw some people take pics, but I think they were just people at the park.
I wouldn't mind doing this every weekend. It was so nice to be inspired and to meet all the fellow CA folks. Thanks Arkady for setting this up! see you not this weekend but the next.

I'll also try to photograph the little painting I stole once it dries up a bit.

It was a ton of fun though and I can't wait until the next one.
