the notebooks of leonardo da vinci

I just bought the notebooks of leonardo da vinci, vol.1

This is an amazing book, not only for art history lovers, but for anyone looking to learn from this great master. It has hundreds of illustrations, dealing with everything-- not just art. I highly recommend this book, it's quite an experience looking into the mind of leonardo da vinci.

Also if you're into da Vinci's draftsmanship you can check out the massive (probably about textbook size) book put out by the Met to go along with the show they had last year called "Leonardo da Vinci: Master Draftsman". Thats also the name of the book. Its huge, and pretty expensive (I was fortunate enough to receive it as a gift) but the plates are really top notch. There is an absolute wealth of information in the book.

Actually the price off of Amazon is pretty cheap. Its definitely worth a look.

Leonardo Notebooks on Project Gutenberg

Project Gutenberg has an electronic version (text only, unfortunately, but handy if you want to quickly search for a particular word or phrase) that you can download from here.
