The very strong outlines give it a feeling of falsehood. Go check out the SP's here

Some humble advice :)

I think the main thing lacking is the various facial landmarks, especially as the drawing is pretty big. Pay special attention to the mouth region(mentalis and orbicularis oris). Also when shading the eyes, try to suggest more of the muscles around and below it. Using lines is quite okay sometimes, provided you do not over darken them or make them too thick. Keep on trying, practice makes perfect. I started out worse than you. Maybe you can study the works of Anthony Ryder, his life drawings are just amazing(check out his book).

If you are asian, you have correctly portrait those features.

Other than the hair, you may not have paid sufficient attention to highlights. I suspect there should be more reflections in your eyes and the glass of the spectacles. The earpiece shading did not look like plastic.

Your face is lacking depth that can be developed through much more shading! Shading is so important in portraits, its what defines the features and character. If you could post a picture of yourself to compare with the portrait, that would help us compare the two and see if the likeness is good. I just had to do a self portrait for art class and its certainly not easy. You've done a good job, but I feel that much much more shading is needed.

thx guys for the comments

Playmobil Pimp - ya, i guess i was tenative on the shading. I think i get afriad that i wont be able to erase. lol. Okay, I will shade more.

oh, ya and the picture of me - i was trying to simulate the post in the selfportrait, but i turned away a little too much.- but still looking at the pictures side by side makes me go ughh....it doesnt look like me. lol

nafa - im asian , but i do guess i should make my eyes more shiney-er and the head phones for plasticy-er.

samchen - i guess i but too much lines around the nose and cheek. I checked out Anthony Ryder, and your right, he is crazy good.

dogfood - oops i didnt know there was a seperate selfportrait section...

k thx for the advice guys. I think ill try a new selfportrait soon.
