Application Portfolio for colleges (Large dl)

There are many pictures in here that I am thinking of using for the portfolio. Sorry for making your Intarwebs cry!!!1!!!Elleven!

These are the pieces I'm thinking of using in my portfolio to submit to Art Center and RMCAD to get into the Illustration programs. I am told that I should be making this strongly figurative to cater to the programs so that is what I'm doing.

Not pictured are a few images I've done for school, one a clothed male figure (in Arabian/Genie attire!) and a female figure. The male is pure oil pastels, the female is an acrylic wash with oil pastels under.

Mirror Dress: This is in the process of being reworked, I'm completely redo'ing the dress, I might touch up the bg a tiny bit. (lots of refs)

Nami portrait, I'm going to rework the background, I don't think it compliments the image with the colors in it now. I might play around with some textures back there. (ref)

Katsucon Cover pic (Current feedback suggests I should either redo the face more realistically, or just totally scrap it from portfolio, open to other suggestsions here too) (ref)

Slide of this Sargent Reproduction to demonstrate ability to paint with Oils.

Ominous: Going to rework the forms in here, make them more solid aand use this to demonstrate more landscape/environmental stuff, cheifly to show versatility. (no ref)

Think I should put both of these in there, they are 24x30's, so I'll do slides (from my own photos)
Victoria Tube Station on Circle and Richmond

Batarang + Technolust still life:

The moleskine book I travel with for observational drawings such as these two (all from life)

Considering using this picture, not positive, I like the style and colors, from ref

Would this be worth finishing up to add in, or should I devote the time that would take to doing something completely from skratch? From Ref.

Same situation here
Color Study Girl

Should I include these pages for figure stuff or not?
Meg (ref)

Lohan (Would fix the hair) (ref)

B (ref)

Quickpose 2: (ref)

Quickpose 4: (ref)

So with that as the reference point for what I have, what do I need to work on/add in here. I have an abstracty oil painting I'm thinking of putting in as well, I'll get a decent photo of that, and the other two figure drawings (those are form life to!) and post them soon.

Hey I'm also going through the portfolio/application stuff right now too.
Im not sure if this applys to your schools of choice but pretty much every school I'm applying to really wants to see work done from life. You might want to include more work like still lifes, figure drawing and environments.

One other thing ive been told is to use references sparingly, and if i do use references make sure the whole piece isnt created from a single reference, the art should be created by you not the reference.

Snowsfall: Good luck with your applications too! I am goign out to finish some more life drawings, in the end I want to try and fill up about half of the stuff in there with life drawing stuff, I only have a small portion of my life drawing work here in the states with me unfortunately, I left a lot of it behind in my most recent move, which is now kind of biting me in the butt.

I agree whole heartedly on the refferences thing, I try and keep from doing anything but a quick study from a single ref I'm probably dropping the latter half of what I originally posted because I feel too much of it is relying on ref. I have been using ref pretty heavily the last few years as a learning process but it's transformed from more of a learning tool to a crutch and I'm working away from it a lot more lately.

The two life drawings I am planning to use but just got pictures of.

Figure Study: Acrylic underpainting with a wash and oil pastels over, from life, don't remember how long

Arabian Knight: guy came in in costume, all oil's long pose.

Saturday morning this week and next I'm dropping by a local life drawing session to get more stuff and updated work, I'll be drawing there specifically with my portfolio in mind.
