Despair

Hey guys.

This is my first attempt at trying to push a painting near finish level.
The theme was despair

Here's what I have so far. Crits and paint overs are more than welcome.
Im hoping to turn this into a folio piece.

My crit would be that the picture does not communicate despair to me. I see a pentagram, skull shoulders and an evilish face. I get the impression of a Warlock, summoner, or even a " I am in your graveyard, resurrecting your doodz." necrobadboy. Not despair though.

maybe need someone groveling at his feet, begging for death

despair, I'd think someone with a bowed head, drooping shoulders, maybe a knife in hand, maybe a bottle of something too strong, or just laying around and looking depressed. the prompt would be interesting to pull off as a portrait imo.

Vapour and Jaytea, cheers for the advice. I get what your saying, I lost the brief a bit I think. He was hunched over but Im thinking of maybe just reworking a new character as despair and making this one into something more evil.

Here's a bit more of a rework, I was working on a different pc so now Im back on photoshop cs4 and it's a lot better. I can see the values more clearly.

Hi Lilnebo I did a paintover for you I hope it helps, Yeah the main
thing I noticed was the composition needed some work basicly the sillhouttes
wherent reading well, so I thought I would do a little paint over, I also noticed
you where doing some mega detail on some little areas, I would save that for the end of the painting. Anyhoot I hope this helps do a paintover of mine
too if you like:p
