The Godfather
Hi,
I'm doing this painting for my folio. I still have a couple days to work on it. I hope you like it so far. |

For your portfolio, and you have a few days left to do it? Are you suggesting there is a deadline you're working on?
If there is a deadline and this is going to be a portfolio piece then you're going to want to bust ass on it to really nail this sucker. Right now two things immediately pop out to me, first he is cross eyed and second the hands are not very well constructed. You may want to make another pass on this and examine your reference material carefully. Pick out landmarks on his face (wrinkles location of pupils, and other things like that) to mark out measurements. Good luck.

Maybe its because you aren't finished, but the fact that the left side of the face is sagging while the right side is firm is a bit weird. Also...I think his right eye is more open than his left eye.
I want to say the ear seems too small, or at the least, too far back (perhaps because the coloring is more hazy?)... Lastly, if you do a quick google search, you'll see that the God Father doesn't have three chins. He only has one. |

remember that you can add a hint of a warm color (orange) to the highlights and a cool color (blue) to the shadows to give things more form. When you use black and white only to make a color darker or lighter, it tends to flatten out the forms. Also I think you might have jumped into detail too soon. Make sure you have all the proportions and forms right before diving into the fun parts. Don't worry, every artist has fell victim of this tendency. just start loose, and tighten, and tighten, and carve away...hope that was helpful. : ) Solid start.
