First a little background...
My name is Walid Feghali. I live in Sweden and I'm a 22 year old student in Mechanical engineering (going to be mastering in Sound & Vibration as I've studied 4 years now).
I do all sorts of stuff on my spare time, but most of all I compose, among other things, orchestral soundtracks and I practice concept art.
I have come a long way with my music, even to the point where I make money off it.
I'm making some money with my work in concept art aswell, but nothing close to as much as I want.
The thing is, I'm so very tired of studying all the time, and my dream has always been to work with something creative, something I enjoy and be somewhere that I really get the most out of my potential.
Engineering and science is very interesting, but I don't find it near as an interesting job for me as composing or drawing concept art for games and such.
My question to anyone willing to offer some insight and advice, is:
Is it worth risking a couple of bad years to pursue a career in music composition (for films, games and TV) and/or concept art?
I really feel that this is what I want to do, but I really want to have my own place to live in, I really want a way to pay my own way here in life,
and right now I'm doing so by studying engineering and taking loans from the university (which I wont be able to if I take a break from it pursuing this).
Is there enough work to be done for me to able to try this out,
and does it pay well? My question mostly aims for concept art since we're in this sector of the Internet. I do have the motivation enough to pursue it,
but will it be enough for me to live on these coming years?
I have so many questions, and so many thoughts that it would get boring if I wrote them all down
so I'll leave you at this and hope for answers.
Thanks for reading!
