Nice work man, keep it up dude.
So I've been tinkering with lettering, different approaches. I've ditched the font type for my scribble, pretty pleased with it as it retains the 'vibe' of the orginal. I honestly don't know how anyone made out my chicken scratch to read the first time...also played around with a new logo concept and cover, which I'm liking...any feedback?
Donalfall- this will be on sale at some point, haven't really decided on a publisher. I'll probably throw myself at either Image or Boom! I did Jeremiah Harm with the Boom! guys, they're really cool folks. Once I get an entire issue complete I'll start shopping it about.
love it, but there are some bits that i prefer in the old version, looks pretty sick all the same
holy sh*t, shis is so sickkkkk!
great stuff man!
Hey all, got some new pages, and a new art print available at my site if you want to support the series, getting off to a sterling start to 2011!
New pages are here
I had a lot of hesitations on this prior to painting it, I put it off all week. The original was not a page I was very fond of, basically cities are hard! I'm actually okay with this...which is about as good as it gets for me.
I love how gritty and textural your paintings are and your sense of composition is fantastic. Your dynamic layouts remind me a bit of Frank Miller's early work (before he forgot how to draw). I'm just blown away, and I'm sorry I missed Oink the first time around. Well, better late than never.
I can't wait till you're finished and I can buy a copy or three
I don't think I've seen your work before, although it does seem familiar. As I started looking through your pages I thought I was going to agree with the other dudes who say your original style was the better with it being more punky/anarchic. But the page comparison on post 26 changed my mind. There is a "wiseness" to the new stuff that can only come with time. Keep going man!
This was the first comic book I bought in highschool, almost failed my art classes because all I'd draw is uber violent pig men. It's great to see you breathing life into this again, would really love to pick up a copy once it's finished.
I added a link to your blog and this page on the site of the indie company I work for here.

This is looking better and better. Love that new cover logo, and your "scribble" is very appealing, I think I prefer it to the font. I'm sorry I'm not more up-to-date. I'm going to buy me one of those prints, once I get paid!
Fantastic work sir!
This is awesome! Please PLEASE tell me you're going to get to finish the whole series this time! Oink was like my favorite book ever. I kept waiting after Blood & Circus for the third set and never saw the light of day.
This looks great. I will miss the old style though. Something about the orange/brown tones felt more dark an dystopian to me...like a piggy Mad Max/Blade Runner.
By the way, as a fan of the previous work, I vote Cover #2 gets the proper feel...but Cover #1 also looks excellent. I give the nudge to #2.
This new vision of Oink is awesome!

kEEP THIS shit alive Johnny,
this is who you are man! I've seen those originals and they are great, but you have matured as an artist and the digital renditions are out of this world.
awesome! post more
Wow, this is amazing! is the new version of this graphic novel out? where can I get a copy!
Yeah, definitely do not give up on this.
But seriously...it would be amazing to see you finish the series too.
When can I purchase this truly quality work. Great stuff.
SketchBook Chris Yoakum?
Please complete this. The world needs Oink.
bump for exposure.
Thanks for the encouragement, this project got put aside for a year for life, work, priorities, but I'm gearing up for another run. I completed almost 1/3 of it on my last jag, so I'm hoping to do the same again this year...probably take another year off and then finish it.
I've definitely never taken the short route, why start now. I recently visited with my good friend Mr. Coro and seeing the work he did on Transient was inspiring, he was even nice enough to give me a signed copy! So that put some fire in the tank. I'll post some new pages soon!
Transient was an epic, I did a second series called Blood and Circus which I've thought about rolling into this and then adding the unpublished City of Loons which was always going to be the finale to the series. If I did all that the final book would end up being about 300+ pages...oy, but the good news is I'm 10% done! haha.
Blood and Circus was 96 pages of art, and I thought it was my best written work, but the publisher Kitchen Sink was going down in flames at the time so I had to rush the through making of the art for the book, although the last 30 pages of BC I think was my best comic work. I was doing a page a day from start to finish, it was 30 days of madness. I remember by the end of it I felt I could paint anything like NEO in the matrix, but I wasn't happy with the first 2 books. I would have normally spent a lot of time polishing and refining it at the end which never happened...anyway City of Loons was going to follow but never did because of the publisher probems.
Blood & Circus was fucking brilliant. The regenerating dude being used as food, and the whole Max Max / western feel was fantastic. I remember reading somewhere that there was supposed to be a 3rd and final series, but it never came... At least now I have a name to offer some comfort that I wasn't insane: City of Loons.
If I could fully fund your completion of Oink's 3rd volume, I would.
Have you ever considered a kickstarter? or is it not about funding?
Congratulations on some awesome stuff.
Beautiful work and these look like a blast to paint. Let me know if you ever want a "ghost writer" artist working with you
I take it if the publisher went bust these are out of print... that's too bad... after browsing through this thread, I really want to read the story! Tease!
