warburton Omg, you changed your name o.O Kinda confusing, but thank you so much for being with me
I really appreciate your constantly help and motivation *thumbs up*
Saturday night I got a little flash and started drawing/painting in many different mediums for 2 hours,
before meeting friends It's all from imagination haha. There was more stuff, but it isn't worth showing...
18.02.2012: - Water colors (has a different mood then the original sketch)
Copics & pencil 6B for sketch. Such soft pencils are awesome, have to use them more often
But I used the wrong paper for copics, so it wasn't possible to blend the colors together :/
20.02.2012: - Perspective exercises
21.02.2012: - stuff from imagination ò.Ó
22.02.2012: - gestures 90 sec each pose
gestures 60 sec each pose
gestures 45 sec each pose
landscape studies from photo-ref; concentration on picking the right colors
airplane first from imagination... >.<
...then from photo reference
I like the way u are progressing.Hard work u are doing, but the results are good.
The figures are awsome, the landscapes and the perspective exercises too.
Soory for my poor english.
zelda_geek True. Thanks for dropping by. I will.
Robert88 Thank you so much. I was a little bit to lazy this month, but I will start working hard again. Now!
Hi everyone, long time I didn't post here. At least for me. After to month daily drawing and studying I
decided to take a little break. But 3 weeks are too much But no time for self-pity, here are the few
things I have done this month. From now on, I will restart updating regularly
My throat still hurts, but it's getting better
So here are some anatomy studies and so on...
21.03.2012: Eyes refed from beauty magazine and started greyscale to color
27.03.2012: anatomy studies -> legs from loomis, photo refs and memory
28.03.2012: more legs, a proportion study and also 2 min gestures
hey, nice sketchbook, you have a good eye one suggestion: maybe try to understand first (e.g. feet), take a look at the books like you did before(loomis, hogarth and so on).
afterwards draw from imagination. (lifedrawings are very good for learnnig but i prefer books.
i did a lot of those drawings from fashionmagazines too, but don´t think that i learned alot from them...
anyhow, you´re on the right track! just have fun!
Philipp Scherer hi, thank you very much. I will try to keep that in mind and I used it also for the following studies
Your progress is really amazing, I hope to see you around again soon.
Mostly studies from yesterday, slowly it looks human like...sometimes ò.O
29.03.2012: Hand from life and leg from imagination...
02.04.2012: One female and one male leg from imagination...
03.04.2012: Anatomy studies from Loomis, photos and imagination
Complete page from imagination
Top one from ref, bottom ones from imagination
warburton Yeah, it's always a pleasure to have you checking on my sb You are really great in encouragement me
I started my new blog and therefor I reworked my drawings since August 2011. Is still a lot to do. But I want to show you what I did so far.
09.04.2012: Sketch is from 23.08.2011
Sketch is from 22.08.2011
10.04.2012: Sketch is from 23.08.2011
Heya! Nice to see another artist just starting out. I started out just last week. Your goal is super-admirable and you're putting the work into it.
A wise old artist once told me "It takes 10,000 hours to achieve utter proficiency in anything." It looks like you're well on your way. ^^ I look forward to seeing what's new.
Hi, sry for the lag of updates. A good friend of mine visited me for a week.
So I didn't draw at all in this time :/ But now I'm back and highly motivated
Philipp Scherer Thanks for stopping by again. It's highly appreciated. You keep me motivated
Euphorius Hi, welcome to CA. Nice to have someone who are also starting out right now. Will check your sb as soon as possible!
forestdino I'm glad to have you around again. Thank you so much. I'm trying my very best
18.04.2012: Some anatomy studies and a character from mind
20.04.2012: Together with some friends I started a 2D game project. Here you can see the first ideas for our main character. I'm not very good in abstraction... never really done that before. But I will get there
22.04.2012: Some faces are reefed, some from mind. Also a photo study. Isn't finished, because I got tired and went to bed.
More ideas for our main character. Started directly in photoshop this time
your posemaniacs look pretty cool and the faces are rendered very fine.
keep on, you're improving !
Philipp Scherer Thanks for stopping by again and the book recommendation. I will see if I can find it
braineater Thank you so much. I definitively keep going
Here you can see the work of the last 2 1/2 weeks. I'm so lazy with ca updates :/ But I have done quite a lot
23-24.04.2012: More "Earl"-concepts, the one with the colored background was the one my teammates liked the most. So I went further with it.
25.04.2012: Earl in side view
My first try with animation...still sketches
This spider was drawn by someone else, I only vectorized and colored it. + a little star for the "you get something"-animation
29.04.2012: Trying to find the right color scheme for Earl
02.05.2012: Some doodles and first ideas for the mean crow in the "Earl"-game
03.05.2012: First self-portrait in front of a mirror. Comment of my boyfriend: "You aren't looking as old yet!" ^^
04.05.2012: Life-drawing. I knew our chaos would have some benefit
Vectorizing and animating of earl. Still in progress.
10.05.2012: Started a Indian-like girl. Don't know if I will go further with it.
Finished the request painting. It looks awful...but I don't wanna work further on it...like the face at least.
11.05.2012: Started the second request piece. Hope to let it be one of my best works. Still lot's to do. But I will take my time with it.
Trying to abstract a real cat to some cute ones...
12.05.2012: My first try using Illustrator...
Here you can see my work of the last week. Not much, sadly.
First off, two "master studies". The originals are from people I adore. One here from CA and one from DA.
PxelSlayer draws women beautifully and I had to study one of his works :3 Rozefire you can find on deviant art.
Her colors are awesome. I choose this painting to study, because I don't now much about the anatomy of the human back.
So there you go ...I'm also trying to improve my shading skills...but pssst...
14.05.2012: Secondly some Loomis heads to warm up...
Then I worked on the female upper body using photo refs, concentrating on shading. Unfortunately you can't see much of it...damn my scanner...
14./16./18.05.2012: All my imaginative stuff I have done in the last week. I think I see improvement anatomically wise. But the poses are stiff and I suck at faces. Back to study
This one I really like. Is a photo study, but stylized...
And here's the progress. Took me about three hours I think...
Here is all I did yesterday
21.05.2012: First off I tried to produce simple one finished piece. I never do that. I'm afraid I assume. It isn't completely finished, but close...I'm working on it. One step at a time
Next I worked on my perspective skills...
Some random faces from mind, trying to get the hang of it...
Eye studies from references...
Anatomical catastrophes...but my goal was to create interesting characters with fluid lines. Like the left one. Maybe I will work on her further...
Every feedback and critique is always welcome and appreciated
Hey hey, good to see your still pushing through with your studies, some of your marks from the pencils are looking nice, keep it up.
2 things i would mention as a critique would be 1, Be wary of studying other peoples work. If your looking to understand their 'style' they can be helpful but don't become reliant upon them. People like pxelslayer, who is awesome and whos characters are shit hot are not masters. Hes just like you and me, except hes spent more time and effort working to get beter. The term master study comes from the old masters whos aim was to depict the world as realistically as possible, with no 'styles' as such. The idea is by studying a master you try to understand their thought process and brushstrokes and learn the fundermentals, rather than the style which comes much later.
Heres a good site for master paintings if your looking to study one - http://inspirationalartworks.blogspo...354f7beb81b23b
2nd, piece of advice is less long winded ;p Read and study Michael Hampton's book, figure drawing, from start to finish (or as far as you can). Be sure to read it as well as study it, it's really really helpful for learning about gestures, form anatomy etc etc. - http://www.4shared.com/office/SABIOc...ure_drawi.html (if you struggle with the link just search online for a pdf of the book, its prity easy to get hold off)
Sorry for the essay, ive been doing that alot recently -_-
Keep up the great work.
warburton Hi my friend, thank you so much for your long and helpful comment in my sketchbook.
I'm struggling a lot lately. Sometimes I simply want to draw something fun, without worrying
about anatomy and such. Like the one below.
But you are totally right, I have to get into serious studies again. I'm only afraid, that someday I
have really good drawing skills, but now ideas and everything I draw will be boring. Do you know
what I mean? ... ah damn, stop worrying keep drawing. Thank you so much for being with me again.
You are a really big help. I checked that book out, looks really awesome. I will start with it today.
Are you through with it yet?
23.05.2012: Having fun with colors without worrying about the sucking anatomy and such... it was
nice to do something, simply because I liked it
Hey again Tamaira! I understand what you mean about the boring ideas thing, it can happen when all you do is study and you do no imagination stuff, your ideas become dull and boring (something i myself suffer from 0_o) I don't really know of a conclusive way to counter that, i think its something which is subjective to each person, after all, we all draw and paint differently, with our own ideas and theories, and each of us has things we like and dislike which affects what we draw. I guess the obvious answer would be to just draw and paint alot from your mind and try new ideas. I mean, the whole reason you study is to improve your mental library anyways, so just keep that in mind. That being said, i would'nt worry to much about it. Ultimately you want to hammer those fundermentals, and once you have those nailed, you can play around with ideas and styles and stuff. Kinda like the wire frame beneath a sculpture, without the backbone it all just falls apart and looks like shit. Excuse the random analogy ;p
As to the Hampton book, i hammered it to learn gesture and form, but i really need to do more of it. I still struggle like crazy with anatomy and poses -_-
I hope this helps and answers your questions, sorry if it didnt. Also bear in mind i'm still prity much a noob too, and i'm only telling you stuff from my own experiences, so if at any point you feel and wrong or talking bullshit, feel free to ignore my ramblings and try stuff your own way. After all, we all learn stuff our own unique ways.
Shiiiiiiiiiit ive gone and done it again lol. Please reply to this essay with lots of studys and show us your improvements. I want to see more!
Hello everyone, pls excuse the long lack of posts. I was still around but hadn't much time for personal studies,
so nothing to show here. Since begin of july I have an internship as concept artist at a small games company
here in germany. With new years eve it will end and maybe I can stay there as full-time artist. I hope so :3
Because of our NDA I can't show you anything work related atm :/ But here are some of my studies and exercises
of the last month. Not much unfortunately
iamkennstan Hi thx for dropping in and leaving these nice words I didn't do any gestures in the last months.
Seems it is time to start again.
warburton Thx for checking around again. I always appreciate your feedback
T-Eight Hi, vielen lieben dank.
Finally started a sketchbook. Both from imagination. Trying to use values much more
Some doodles and my boyfriend while sleeping :3
Trying to remember the human figure in a break at work.
Something from imagination using my break at work.
Traced the outline to concetrate on hard and soft edges
Studies from reference.
Concept for an environment.
Head from imagination.
Since start of october I realised how less I improved in the last year so I decided to finally leave my comfort zone and study all the stuff I'm really bad at!
Drawing heads from imagination, because this is something I'm avoiding since many years. Trying to draw hard shadows and lots of values.
Starting my color studies, using photo references. Also trying to block in the figure instead of using a lineart underneath.
Trying to apply the colors and finally try to paint from imagination. It's looks so freaking bad, but at least I finally found the courage to do so
More color studies...
Tracing the outlines so I can concentrate on the colors...
For five month this seems like nothing, but I wasn't used to draw 8 hours a day straight. So after work I simply fell asleep the first months^^ Now I'm trying to study regularly again. Hope I can show you my stuff I did at work soon =)
Hello everyone, I'm back. My internship is over, so I have more time now
Here some sketches, studies and an started illustration from the last months... Unfortunately I can't post anything from my
internship yet, because of the NDA. Also I did some graphics for a qualifying test for an job interview. I hope I can show you
this next week
26/27.11.2012: heads from imagination
30.11.2012: the same
4.12.2012: going crazy with female bodies
...and an unfinished illustration, because I couldn't finish it until contest deadline :/
23.01.2013: the still unfinished line art for my new illustration. kind of my own interpretation of the little mermaid :3
The great thing about it: it's 95% imagination based...I knew someday all the studies would pay off!
Til February 5th I will only work on this particular piece. I can't wait to see how it will turn out. See yah
Hi guys, a lot of great news this month. First of I'm finally allowed to show some of my stuff
I did during my internship in a small games company here in berlin, germany. And because
of that I was finally able to finish my online portfolio, which you can check out here.
So, here also the stuff I did during my internship. First of my process of creating a building.
From the initial concepts 'til the final building in all its stages
A rendering of a dragon I did, based on the concept of my co-worker Philipp Dege
Some of the icons I did
I applied for a job in the beginning of january and had to do a qualifying test for it.
Sadly it didn't work out. But I learned a lot while doing this. So no hurt feelings
Starting to do landscapes. Didn't any study in case of landscapes yet, so yeah.
Something I have definitively to put on my to-do-list.
Started to do photo studies again. Concentrating on picking the right colors and
laying down the shapes without underlying line art
Speed paint from my imagination. Really like the atmosphere of it.
The current w.i.p. of my illustration piece. Still lots to do!
Face painted from imagination. No underlying line art. Really enjoyed doing this.
But so much still to learn.
Sketchbook pages: Faces from my mind
Testing how good my anatomical knowledge is by drawing from mind
This was kind of a big post. Hope you are still with me Any feedback to my
work and/or portfolio would be much appreciated. What I really miss right at
the moment are people around me who are doing the same. So that we could
sit together, draw and learn from each other See yah soon!
