a reminder for myself.. stirrups
very nice stuff from everyone. Here is mine so far, taken me an age to get started with something i'm happy with. hopefully i will get going with it My character uses darts loaded with potions mixed with rattle snake venom. I'm going to make the rattlesnake element more apparent as i progress.
mistermike - good start, like your style
Juki - looking good. excellent work with horse. you adding a themed BG?
Mj Alcazar - love the update/colors. Cool Annie Oakly feel
JR barker - very cool painting. i know you are not done but it is a little unclear as to what the object is behind him. Could shoft from black smoke to a rock outcrop.
Dranyer - Excellent value control. no1 my fave but I dig the backback on no2
Lucassie - coming together now. loads of character in her face & posture
JSN - hah cool Space vespers!
Jagder - good start! the blackbeard the cowboy
Ryansumo - really liking what you have going now
Lil update on mine. Starting to add some clothing & details. just seeing what i get down first and then will add/edit again. Thinking alien tech mixed with some real world tinkering
Thinking about the BG. prolly do a low sundown scene to abuse the lighting.
Gadbury - I'm no pro but i did a quick rework of your piece, hope you dont mind. just my rough thoughts. pushing the BG figues further back with regards to your ground plane. Smaller rider, bigger/higher horse. taller canvas. more distance between the flying dude and horses mouth. Different angle on dead dude. if the horseman is shooting down, the dude will be pushed back and down, not up into the air(?)
Nice work everybody!
Here my shot. I still need to think of a way to make him look like an alchemist - potions, trinkets, shiny gun and all that - and to think of some nice composition, so this is just a general shape. C&Cs are more than welcome
Given my work schedule I probably wont be able to finish this properly, but there were more then just cowboys in the west, aside from M!ICK i haven't seen alchemists with some Native American influences so figure out there was room for more
Still need to add loads more vials and make his guns more alchemy-like before trying to detail. And "solve" his feet too ;P.
But he has goggles and a leather "apron' for protection for when he mixes his stuff .

Will appreciate critique anywhere, anytime .
Here's what I have so fare. Crits very much appreciated.
heres my wip so far really loving everyone wips so far.
So, this here is Qito. He used to be a respected alchemist, until he started drinking. He lost most of what was dear to him, and drowned his sorrows with some more alcohol. He's still an alchemist of sorts, brewing his own broth, and has several small "breweries" inside abandoned sheds all over the country.
Unfortunately, late-night boozing sessions often cause him to forget to load up his guns before he dashes (read: stumbles) into the fray.
Here's the sketches so far. Should be done on the weekend, though I can probably not upload until Monday... If that's too late, that's just fine Participating but not contending ehy
AboutaDirk:Qito.. That's funny stuff, haha! Maybe he could also use moonshine breath as a weapon also, he would probably hit better with it.
Narko:Thanks, I thought I'd focus more on the character this time and if there's time left I'll do some background for it. I have usually run out of time to finish any CHoW's properly (especially with the character sheet) but the CHoW subjects have been unresistable lately so I have had to give it a go anyway. I like the detailed accessories and the proportions of the character are good. Maybe some more work on the face?
Otto and mistermike: I like your different approach on the subject
Fuhrenator: It seems that he has just fired the gun without looking at it because he's too busy posing at the camera (but maybe it fits the theme?). Also have you thought about any recoil on the weapon? considering that the shell would probably fly out at the same time as the gun recoils. I like the overall feeling and mystery of the character.

Here's my contribution. Probably will not get much further, as always...
I've named her Amelia Silver "Quicksilver". Besides her gun, she also uses poisoned lipstick, pretty much only because I wanted to do it some crazy color, and as a kid I loved 'Kissin' Kate Barlow' in the book HOLES.
Trolljack love your style =) Imho first one, without cape is better.
Oddo nice concepr! I hope you can finish it))
Let's blow up the goddamn train! =D This lad is too found of explosions!)
WIP#1, focusing on the bg first.
the concept is based around saloon girls. I really didnt plan this one much and i'm building it as i go-which is fun and not my normal process. alchemist things to be detailed later as this is a very early stage.
i just have a basic idea yet, making my alchemist drinking a special blend of booze. after some digestion, his modified liver separates its ingredients into different kind of venoms, which are flowing towards his right hand. he can inject them into anything, canister bullets, his fav bowling balls or straight into the living with his fingers - one by one or mixed to have more complicated effects.
nice progress on everyone btw.
Hey, cool idea cz64!
This is my final for now. I'll see if im able to do that dang character sheet also..
fuhrenator: your guy is too feminine
RaynaCendre: liking the cheerful cartoony style
man i always see these cool threads too late..
floating bits are part of his armor that detaches to project some kind of force field which protect him from enemy fire
Pixeltuner - I really love her outfit. She looks badass. I think her right/our left, arm may be a tad to high.
ryansumo - good work on the character. I think the horse anatomy could use some work, also, it looks like he may be sitting kind of sideways on the horses back. Right now he is facing one way and the horse's perspective is different. To see what I mean, flip the picture a different direction. If I'm right, it should pop out then. =)
Youarenotalone - your character definitely looks like they have a good time. Can't wait to see it finished.
cz64 - cool concept! make sure you get the "fun loving" part in there too.
rayelian - love the character sheet.
Raynacendre - for inspiration on design. Look at some western wear stores, look up clothing in wikipedia, fashion shoots, go on to deviant art craigslist even, sometimes people will post some things they've made. And, although I wouldn't recommend copying them. You get the idea of how you can have your character carry stuff. Whether it's in a specialized coat, belts, packs. gauntlets, etc.
Narko - Thanks for your comments. =) loving her pose, and the design as well. Make sure you are remembering how her skull will fit into that hat. Also, I recommend using a bigger brush on the coat.
here's another update on mine.
starting to get going with this although having a bit of trouble nailing the textures especially the snake skin trousers also i need a fresh eye on it does anyone think that her head might be a tiny bit to big? i an't tell my self but i have a seeking suspicion.
Hey I just wanted to post my WIP. Any help is appriciated!
I uploaded a way to big version of this pic.
I'll reupload in two sec!
Here it is

Hmmm... she's missing something...
Great work everyone!
Late start for me but I guess will have time to finish it. And make the character more alchemist than gunslinger.
Haven't been here in a while... I'll try and sketch something up before I my flight.
clocks ticking.... man my favorite part of the theme was the plug about making a happy character as opposed to all the darknesses.
Plus weren't bowler hats the best, those guys always got killed.
