Ooooo environments are looking promising. Good to see an understanding of atmospheric perspective there. But like me you need more anatomy practice So its prob time to give some Bridgeman or other anatomy books a run in, I'll do the same

You surely have been missed!!
And i so love the portraits! They look so confident, so hard blocked in, and yet so blended in.
The first portrait seems more interesting because of the background idea, but especially because you gave her more skin tones.

You are certainly improving

Hey Noodle,

Some crazy things going on here. Especially those colours, and your sense of texture is getting better and better. 468 I think is a milestone, although I really enjoy The Librarian too. Still, your environments are your strenght and the figures and characters are somewhat behind.
I think you should work on your sense of form and value.
The step-by-step in 364 (thanks for posting!) has a process of lineart first, then throwing in colours and textures (sort of like a colouring picture for children), but you're not really defining those forms. It's also apparent in some of those characters and portraits (where people say they're flat). Your good use of colour is not always helping you out there! Value studies will really help, of course. Determine which side planes are facing, note the value breaks. Studies with simplified forms may help. Know that once the values are correct, you can throw whichever colours you want on it, it will always read well. I found this tutorial by Prometheus|ANJ invaluable. For anatomy, studying Bridgman will also help you greatly (if you were not already). Mainly because Bridgman explains you how the workings of anatomy, and how to turn it into form. You've got a very 'soft' way of painting anatomy, I believe a more 'structural' approach could help, and may be refreshing. Also, note that both Bridgman and that tutorial I mentioned really focus on simplifying and understanding.

I actually tried a paintover of that last portrait but I don't think I succeeded, haha.

Anyway things I wanted to change are; a more chiseled look, toned down the light, gave him eyelids and bigger ears. Changed proportions, attempted to give the neck some shape and top of the head some more structure and size.

Those thunderdomes are great, especially considering the timeframe. Different mood and setting everytime.
Once I get better at environments myself, I'll be able to crit yours too!

Again, a bit negative and too broad as well. Next crits will be more to the point. Your process is inspiring however. Keep at it!
