I like how u are going with ur drawing. Your oil painting is a really good try. My humble opinion is that your face is not showing form well. It looks abit flat. think geometric form!.. Cube, cylinder... Keep going with ur practice, i am sure u will go very far.

Scott Hello Scott. This is so kind of you. You registered to this forum for writing in my thread? As you can see Bill is a passionate conceptart.org member and provides a lot of knowledge here.

In September I was in NL - why didn´t you invite me earlier . A friend of mine is going to move to Amsterdam in February. When I visit him I will see if I drop by in Maastricht.

Ahhhhhrghhhh - as I´m writing this I browsed your website and saw that there is a gallery with your works in s´Hertogenbosch. That´s where I was in september (Oss to be exact).

Mydrako Thank you. I decided to leave the self portrait alone though I see the errors in it. Besides that what you wrote, the viewers right eye is too much on the right side. Should be some millimeters to the left. And I´m looking much older in reality I´m 32 and the guy in the portrait is in the mid twenties.

lookin good, keep it up!

watch those edges!
and on some of the figure work the structure/anatomy is pretty off, make sure you doublecheck these things on the next one and get it as solid as you can!

maybe do one of these type of things:

Dorian Wow that looks good - is that your drawing? Thanks for the encouragement!

The bust is going on.
It´s best to take a photo after each sitting since one does not recognize the changes on
the drawing. It was quite frustrating after 3 hours on the drawing and thinking that nearly
nothing has been done.

Finally I found out what to do with the charcoal dust that collected on my sandpaper
I took a sponge, dipped it in the charcoal dust and whiped it over the background. It´s much
faster than with hatching and it gives a much more pleasing result. I had some impression of
Daniel San and Mister Miyagi (apply and polish....apply and polish.... )

And to see the change more obvious it´s good to make an animated GIF out of it.

Great progress.. i am seeing some angles and shape difference but not sure if thats because of the camera not being in the same position as where u stand. The picture dorian posted should be a russian drawing. Russian drawings has this distinctive look to it and they are awesoms !! There is a thread here with tons of russian goodness... http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=160487

LumoGraphiteThanks man. I´ve already worked on it but I´ll show the next pix, when the progress has gone further. I think it´s boring for the viewers to only see minor changes.

Mydrako Yeah, I thought as much that this is a russian drawing. At least this guy looks like Putin´s slimmer and older brother
I can see the errors in the drawing too. For example, the two wrinkles on the shoulder should be closer together.
To make a right shot of it, one should make two photos. One of the actual angle to the bust, and one directly from the front of the drawing. Then paste them together in photoshop.
How big the difference is by using only one angle, one can see at the foot of the cast.

Hi people!

I had to make another GIF for comparison. I´ve spent XX hours on it again and every time I think, nothing has happened/changed. But in reality it´s not the case. See here:

Hello Darkside! Thank you for your words!

Hab´ mal in Pützchen gewohnt . Gruß

sweet cast drawing, did you have to use a stump? stomp? (the paper smudging thing..) to go over any areas in any way?

thanks for the reply in my thread btw! keep up the great work.

dlquddnr What a strange name! I use a sponge for larger areas to smooth the charcoal and for smaller areas I use a cheap brush with relatively stiff bristles. If you carefully apply the charcoal with light strokes in lighter areas there are still strokes visible due to the grainy surface of the paper. But with a brush you wipe the charcoal from the hills into the valleys so it gets really smooth. If I had a stomp I would use it as well. I was told that the fingers contain fatty acids so I would not recommend using them for smudging.
