Character of the Week #279
When I grow up
Create a 'self portrait' of who/what you wanted grow up to be when you were a child
DEADLINE: SUNDAY 4th MARCH 9PM GMT+1 (8PM GMT)
Check your timezone!
This week it's pretty straight forward. We would like you to think back to when you were a child, lets say, younger than 12, and remember what you wanted to be when you grew up. Then, we'd like to you design design your 'future' self, as you imagined you might be back then. Perhaps you dreamt of being a policeman, or a teacher, or a wizard. However just to make things interesting, you cannot draw yourself as an artist, so think about what else might have sparked your imagination.
- It needs to be you (or a version of you. You can draw yourself even older that you currently are, or younger if that is applicable, but you MUST be an adult)
- Can be any style or genre
- You cannot draw yourself as an artist.
- It does not have to be realistic - if you dream of being a robot, or a dragon or a princess then draw it!
In addition to the brief, if you do not follow these rules, you will not be included in the poll.
- Files must be named: CHoW#279_Username (Files with any other names such as final.jpg or even chow279final.jpg will not be accepted)
- Finals must be posted in the finals thread BEFORE the deadline
- Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
- At least 3/4 of the focus character must be visible
- Final images must be accompanied with a basic character sheet in a separate image Character sheets should at the very least show a sketch of the front and back of the character and a couple of early thumbnails/silhouettes.
- Follow the brief!

Sounds like fun. Count me in!
OKAY I will try this one.
wow, this is weird, I was talking about how I always wanted to be people in movies with my dad last night. Can I be Qui-Gon-Jinn or does it have to be a profession? Cos if so, its the standard tank driver, pilot, fireman, race car driver.
No it doesn't have to be a profession, just anything you wanted to grow up to be when you were about 10-12 (or younger if you prefer)
Holy shit dude, me too! My dad always had to keep an eye on me because he was afraid I'd jump off the roof trying to fly.
I remember when I was 6 or so my dad took me to the backyard with a white piece of plastic (Crystal) that I threw as hard and far as I could fully expecting the Fortress of Solitude to rise from the ground like in the movie.
LOL thats awesome.
Here in Brazil, we have this kind of very cheap fabric "lucky wristband" wich people believe that: 1st you make a wish and put it on your wrist
Then, when it tears and falls, your wish come true. So me, when I was 7, had this one on my wrist and I kinda wished that I could fly.
So when it fell of my arm, I start to jump like crazy! I even tried to put on a cape LOL
Interesting topic. As far as my memory goes I can only recall specific mediocre roles or dreams but something tells me that there must have been a more abstract aspiration to all of it. At least that'll be the angle I'd go for on this theme.
The restriction is no bother, I never dreamt of being an artist strangely enough.
Er...ballerina. That dream was crushed right after I got a teeny taste of it.
I wanted to be a mermaid so so bad. My dream will finally be realised!
First time ever posting on Conceptart so I'm a bit nervous. Treat me kindly please! hahah
When I was a little girl I watched waaay too many of those magical girl type cartoons. I was pretty convinced I was going to be sucked into some magical universe or back in time where it would be up to me and my kickass fighting skills to save the day. So I'm using the old childhood dreams of mine for this idea.
Below are some sketches, not really paying attention to anatomy or anything like that.. but really trying to work up an image that feels like it'd be fun to go all out on.
Haha, ditto! Not only a mermaid, I wanted to be the mermaid princess... with a beautiful singing voice, and all the underwater creatures would be my friends.
I'm going in for this one, because I still love mermaids, but I think I would make a funny mermaid in my grownup version (and, on a side note, I'm pretty sure my current singing voice would get me eaten).
heres what i always wanted to be when i was a kid!I love the sea
Well ill probably change the whole pic and make it more dramatic and with more action
This is my first kind of progress shot. I want to try and get as much movement into the piece as possible. I definitely would have wanted to dance and be friends with all the sea-life.
Please let me know what you think (:
I wasn't sure what to draw myself as, just a police man was kinda boring (and I never really wanted to be one), so I started thinking back a few years, and I remember that when I was 11-12 ish, my older brother, our friends and I were really into warhammer 40k, we even went to the conventions once or twice, we grew out of it pretty quickly (although I do still read the books and thoroughly enjoy the artwork).
considering the only other thing I wanted to be was a tank driver (like ma' ol' grandaddy), I think a space marine is going to be more fun to draw.
This is me with much more manly and substantial beard, I think I got my hair pretty much dot on too.http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1330340527http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1330343917

Nice! I'm stoked to do this. Glad I've got a day where I can do some drawring.
Here's my Book of Sketches
"Anything you can imagine is real." --Pablo Picasso
"Nothing says, 'I couldn't care less' like Times New Roman." --Me
I wonder whether or not I should join this. You see, when I was 4-5 years old I told my parents I wanted to become a washing-machine when I grew up.
"I wish to paint in such a manner as if I were photographing dreams" - Zdzislaw BeksinskiMy Happy Little Sketchbook, please check it out and help me get better!
Yes!! I hope I have time to participate! I wanted to be a paleontologist. I was also pretty into the Tomb Raider games. Adult me wrangling dinosaurs? Hells yeah.
I might even try this one. I watched a LOT of "support your local sheriff/ gunslinger" growing up...All those hidden guns!
Haha great theme! By the way, Cameli, I love that shark. ^_^
It's a first sketch, the character design gonna change.
I wanted to be a writer and in the same time i wanted to be John Mcclane
