sorry guys too tired today, thanks for the nice comments...will reply tomorrow
started on a concept for once....turns out my anatomy knowledge's worse than I thought...should have used a ref...
Dont worry pal, i actually like it.Just make some fixings in the torso and let the lovely legs. Now the line in the torso distracts my eye .Make it smoother there(i mean the vertical line going from the chest to the pelvis).
Keep it up!!!
Thats what you get for painting nekkid ladies - put some armour on! just kidding. keep pushing and work on those weaknesses!
figures friggin hard to do..always.. can't remember last time it seemed easy.. anwyays.. :o
I think the biggest issue with that figure is the weight.. her left leg suggests all the weight and you have drawn so but her hips and the rest of the body doesn't follow. and her right feels like it's not planted right.. just hanging in there. you gotta push that hip up to compensate for the weight, and often a pose like that would make a chick lean back a bit.
I was going to do a paint over but I think it's better for me to draw it separately.. so here.. I tried to match your figure but anyways..
hope you don't mind eeeee. (if u do tell me and I will remove it asap)
anyways dude, keep it going! figures are pain up the arse but you gotta keep pushing it. cheers
brilliant studies! thx for sharing!
kingkostas: yeah that part bothered me too...was too sleepy to fix it properly, thanks for dropping by man
kidult: haha...armour is for the weak thanks man!
bumskee:omgggg thanks soooo much min!!! I would thank your post 100 times if i could , seriously you totally nailed it on the head....her pose just looks wonky to me now...*sigh* guess I gotta go repaint it......thanks again man...I really appreciate the help
Josef K.: haha...thanks for the nice comment
Life drawwwwwing (I love wolff carbon pencils)
I'm a lazy bastard I know...
hahahaha lol man you post everyday so its ok, you also follow your sketcbook title "updated daily "
As always i love your pencils, very nice work. And the SP very funny
see ya and keep up!!!
Dude your life drawings just get better and better, Lines are just superb! I really need to get my ass along to em' life drawing class's, but I just cant seem to make the time
And I really enjoy looking tho here each day as well, so thanks for the daily updates.
Oh and thanks bumskee for what you said on figures, I'm struggling with those bastards atm.
It's quite shocking to see how much you have been improving almost to the point that i don't want to sit anywhere near ya at life drawing anymore, heh! Those Wolff carbons seem to be working great for ya, have ya tried using a blending stump with those pencils as well? I only say that because at the mo it seems like your drawing with it like it's a graphite rather than exploring the advantages they have over graphite. Never know what may happen dude.
I'm still too chicken sh*t to have a go with those Wolff carbons because it seems like you gotta work hard to get the best out of em, like charcoal. I'm too much of a lazy k*nt to bother with that sh*t, heh!
Why not use your life drawings as reference? one thats close to the pose your after.
take it easy mate...
opps, forgot to thank evildisco and algenpfleger for being nice and stopping by 2 days ago
kingkostas: thanks man
DanielC: not as nice as yours will keep posting!
JailHouseRock2: you and me both man...I'm really glad when I get awesome crits like that in this SB
Rusty:wow thats a great idea, didn't think about using blending stumps, thanks man! and also...what are you saying dude slightly exaggerating a bit there would really love to have a proper chat with you sometime man...would really appreciate some crits from ya...kick my ass man
I've decided to get my ass in gear and put together a portfolio and try applying for the CA Atelier. (it's pretty funny reading the first post of this thread now haha ) From now on I'll try to work even harder, more crits appreciated!!! thanks guys for all the support so far!!!
sorry not much to update with today...went to a meeting for animators which was really inspiring. Just finished off the teen challenge entry...not really entirely happy with it but I feel its time to move on...
will work harder!
Hey Allan, I haven't dropped by in a while. You're doing really well man, I wish my figures looked that solid. Good luck on getting into the Atelier!
Ok work harder and we will be here pal!!!
I may miss for a week but anyway i will check for sure.
I dropped to wish you good luck
I just went through this sketchbook for the first time. The difference from page one to page 16 is ridiculous. Like a completely different artist. Keep on this path and I don't see why you wouldn't get into any art school you're looking towards.
You mentioned a few days ago how applying color feels hit or miss. You probably already know, but there is one thing to keep in mind: the way color works in real world media (light waves) is so different from digital color presentation that comparisons are impossible. When doing studies digitally, stick with digital color masters like Black Frog or Jon Foster, etc. I initially made the mistake of trying to learn digital color techniques by studying traditional work. D'oh.
Keep up the good work.
Just adding onto bumskee's critique.
I think you would benefit from paying more attention to the angles in a pose, especially how they contrast each other or form rhythms, and then accentuating these features to really give more energy and weight to the figure.
Keep up the awesome work!
Max Challie: thanks man
kingkostas: thanks for all the support!!!
Mischeviouslittleelf: yeah i think i concentrated on the lines too much and didn't push other areas of importance...thanks for the crit man
flamable: thank you
sourgasm: thanks for the advice, although there are plenty of people who improved more than me haha...
HunterKiller_: true man...gotta work on my rhythm...cheers for pointing it out!
need to stop missing updates...
Studies of surfers:
I'm gonna stay up all night to finish this painting...just found out yesterday that entries for EXPOS… 7 ends on midnight monday, I know I suck ass but it's worth a try...CRITS NEEDED DESPERATELY!!!
Ooh nice painting man!
I really like the girl, as for the male figure, you might want to make him darker on the whole so that the girl (the strongest part in this piece IMO) stands out a bit more. Also I think that the male's shoulder should be moved upward a bit.
What are you thinking about the colours in this piece? I'm seeing this with a yellow/orange lightbeam and higlights, and the rest of the colours (shadow mostly) a not very saturated cold colour.. But this is all up to you ofcourse.. I like it in B/W already a lot just make sure you don't lose the contrast if you would get some colour in this.
I especially like the shapes of the branches and the girls arm and face in this work. Very interested to see how it turns out.. It's looking very promising!!
Post your progress in a few hours! I'll check back to see it ^^
Ofcourse it would be nice to make the deadline for Expose, but I think if you get a good portfolio piece out of this it will be just as good
See you in a few hours ^^
omg thank you marleen for the comment and critique! sorry I totally forgot to keep updating as I painted
and um yeah....I kinda fucked it up...turns out I totally suck at the whole underpainting + overlay colours method.......HALP?

OH MY GOD. So there I was, hit the deadline, didn't finish, but decide to submit anyway...when...what do I see? Ballistic changed the deadline to March 2nd....
I don't know whether I should be angry or thankful....*sigh*
Here's the shitty last minute rush...at least now I will have enough time to polish this up....hit me with all the crits you got guys!!! (should I just get rid of the beam of light altogether? It kinda....really sucks.)
PS: LOL just realised it looks like he got hit with with a concentrated stream of water...either that or I seriously need sleep haha...
Hey man, I think it's looking pretty good, I would try and play with the composition a little bit more because the focal is almost in the middle. Also check your values and group them where you want the eye to go. You are doing that to some extent but the lighter values can be packed to better effect closer to your focus.
Hope that helps and keep it up.

Yep the ray of the light seems weird because its to focused and not interacts well with the whole of the cave(space)Try to do it with a big brush with opacity around 20-30% with few strokes(not smooth edged, unless you want it like that)
I actually like it to
It have a general creation style and that makes it look finished so now you aim for quality basically
I will agree about playing more with the composition but i guess you may leave it away if you start over.So try to make the appropriate sharpenings(to move our eyes to the target)+ the proper saturations in the skin tones(remember how skin interacts when a strong light hit it)in some places the blood is more visible and it takes some +red color and also make the proper blur here and there in the depth to make a depth of field effect.
Anyway its a good work so dont worry. You sure learned a lot from that even if you dont finish it.
See ya pal!!! Sorry for not having any more clear critique
hmm, doesn't really seem like there's a theme or congruence to your colours.
look at nature and check how things look in light and shadow (the same things).
Otherwise, ty for updates, omnomnom etc
evildisco: thanks heaps for the crit man...will keep it in mind
kingkostas: no worries man that was plenty of advice already, thanks alot!
sevarenge: thank you !
