Sorry for the laziness in this sketchbook, i am not really in the habit of drawing(i know i know), so i have very little to show out of NDA work... but thanks to the calendar finally coming to light, i can now show the steps in making this piece.
i started out by doing little thumbnails, in this case i was trying to achieve a feeling of "flower blossoming" in the composition, and i also work out the value scale(which is not scaned in, so not shown here):
well. and then i scan it in and start coloring with the "simple water" brush in painter 9.5. i like the color variation it gives me:
I thought the linework was a little too weak for the foreground characters to stand out, so i did a inking on tracing paper of only the characters and scan it in and put on top:
i played with the adjustment layers in photoshop at last and put in the finish touches:

These four took me a weekend to do; which u can see basically has all the ingredients of the finish piece. i focused on lighting and tone to create a more solemn mood.
