I was asked by the fine folks at SpookyART.com to contribute an original illustration for a charity auction. The theme was to pick a character or scene from a horror novel. I chose Gage Creed and his kitty Church from Stephen King's Pet Sematary because I like to draw cute little zombiefied creatures. Here's a little blurb with info about the auction...
Villains and monsters of literature come alive in the 2006 SpookyART Charity Project - an auction of original work from the dark imaginations of SpookyART resident artists. 100% of proceeds will benefit Fairy Godmother; a Chicago, IL organization that grants wishes to adults facing terminal illnesses.
SpookyART Artists Jason Beam, D.E. Christman, Victoria Dickinson, Grant Fuhst, Steven Gilberts, Jennifer Glasso, Chris Hill, Joseph Larkin, Peter Mihaichuk, Morbideus, Zach Pennington, Charli Siebert, John Schwegel, and Scott Webb will be contributing original and one-of-a-kind framed artwork to this year's Charity Project.
Each of the artists will be illustrating scenes and characters from classic tales such as Beowulf, Frankenstein, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and many others. Each framed original piece will be placed in a silent auction at the Flashback Weekend Horror Convention in Chicago, Illinois - July 28-30, 2006 at the Crown Plaza Chicago O'Hare. Silent auction bids can be placed at the Convention through Saturday.
Visitors to the SpookyART Charity Project website can download a free .mp3 of the 2006 SpookyART Charity Project theme song "Wither Malevolence" by Lizzy Todack. The Seattle-based musician composed and graciously donated the song for this year's event. Lizzy's haunting vocals and unique style make her music a perfect fit with the artistic genre that SpookyART caters to.
This marks SpookyART's second year of it's Charity Project endeavor. Last year the group came together and contributed original works to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation through an online auction at Ebay's Giving Works. This year, over 7,000 people are anticipated at the Flashback Weekend Convention, giving valuable exposure to the Fairy Godmother organization. The SpookyART Charity Project's mission is to utilize the Spookyart.com community of dark artists to cultivate the common interest of using their work to make a difference and contribute to charitable organizations.
