Hey guys, thanks for commenting, DC I'm glad you're seemingly back in the swing of things
Here is an update on the drawing.
heheh cool piece! I was going to say the same thing about her arms, far to long.
Unless fairies have super long arms now :0 That's ok right? hahahh
Maybe, if you have the light coming from the moon (or is it the sun?), have some highlights in her wings to show off the gossamer quality of her wings?
Looks good keep it up
Here is an update to the last piece, I threw some quick colors on the fairy, you can also see the beginning of the correction of the arm issue. My posting here may slow down quite a bit as I've been becoming involved with a side project that's consuming a lot of my free time.
Here is another step, since the sunset will light the background I decided to darken up the foreground severely and work with highlights. Fairy's looking good now for color hehe.
Hey thats some nice work on the fairie. The wings look good. I like the veins and stuff. Why is one wing so much different in texture from the other? I just noticed that the foreshortening of the guy's arm is a bit weird to me. I'm thinking it's maybe that ridge of the shoulder. I'm sorry I just can't pinpoint it. I really like the cracks in the rocks. So far so good I'll be standing by patiently waiting for those updates!
Hey DC, thanks a lot for the comment, I think you're right about the shoulder, none of this is referenced of course I might take a photo of myself in that position to try to straighten that out. The wings on butterflies are never the same on the top and bottom - usually they're quite a bit different actually.
Anyways, here is a quick stab at a sky, not finished and I will make it reflect of course. I've studied some sunset photos now and I think I need to darken the foreground even more.
Some more work on the sky and the reflection off the water. I also made some updates to the anatomy of the guy, let me know if this is better please in the shoulder area.
I've decided to take the discussion related to my latest big piece to the critique center where people tend to bring the pain more. If you'd like to bring the pain it might be very helpful:
Here is something different for tonight, my own version of THE LAW! I got motivated after seeing Dredd in another sketchbook here. 10 mins in Photoshop.
Very nice work with that sky! I really love the soft blues you've got going on. The shoulder looks a lot better to me. Before it looked like an implant. This looks way more natural. There's something very calming about that piece
I think some skin texturing would help with your characters. A slight bit of noise or grain over the flesh would help. Here's a nice tutorial on the subject, complete with brushes related to it. The full tutorial, IMHO, is not necessary to follow, but it does give a good idea on skin texture.
Part 2 (I think the brushes are downloadable here)
Keep up the drawing!
I like how you fixed the problem with the fairy's arms being too long. I was noticing though, that the fabric that she is grabbing looks unnatural, almost like she's holding a piece of dough. You should do some cloth studies, esp. if the guy is wearing jeans. I like.
Pencil sketch was studied from a photo though was pretty quick, 15 mins total. There was more on that page but I don't have time to show it now so just the detailed portrait shot.
The speed digital sketch I made at home without referencing anything, just wanted to see what I learned... neat experiment.
Both pieces are excellent in my opinion. The pencil sketch version is a bit off, namely the eyes and that hard line on the right side of the pieces is throwing off the balance. But the digital is dead on. Very nice work with the mid and dark tones! Your painting skills are improving with each post
I'm wrapping up work on my sunset with the fairy piece, you can go visit it at the critique center and join in trashing it
Here is a small insight into the next piece I've started. I am going to commit to doing a series of dragons next. I love drawing them and it also lends to doing big atmospheric and environment shots which I need to work on. What I haven't decided is whether this will be one big dragon drawing a month or to do 10 or so in a row? I'm also not sure if this particular one will become fully rendered, I was just sketching and it turned out halfway decent.
Here is the finished Sunset piece, by the end I started running out of patience even though there were some things I could still touch up. Thanks to everyone who gave me comments on this, I tried to work on everything and I think I learned a lot from this one.
Also here is the remainder of that page with the face which I posted above - you can see a portion of the pencils in the upper portion. The girl which I colored required a lot of digital mods - I made her way too thin. I knew it and it turned me off from the drawing that's why I didn't post it earlier... however, correcting her proportions proved to be rather easy in Photoshop.
Anyways, I've been drawing, just not posting.
Hey n1va, thanks for your tips. I absolutely can't wait to see a completed version of your dragon rider lady. Although, the dragon looks alittle skinny, especially around the belly in my opinion.
The details on your fairy looks wonderful! Will check back once you update and I look forward to that.
Hey n1va, nice ideas and concepts here. Nice progress as well. Deffinitely do more studies from life, it will help you a lot with your imaginative work. Cheerz
Cool work on the WIP, the water looks more realistic now. I like how you blurred the horizon a bit from the sun. Very nice work! That dragon rider piece looks cool as well. You going to finish that one in PS? You did a nice job with the scales on the head. Keep them coming!
Hey guys, I've been very busy in the last week on a couple of projects, hopefully something good will come out in the end but who knows. Anyways, these are really just sketches so don't be too harsh. Sketching more for the dragon theme but I've yet to commit to anything for sure to really render out, I'm actually really struggling with this one in terms of ideas.

Nice work, man! Your last updates are very cool! I like Sunset piece a lot. Your portrait work is getting better and better as well. Keep it up and thanx for support!
Hey guys, thanks a lot for visiting.
Ulver: w0rd up!
Metal-mike: Yup, working on it.
I've really not had an opportunity to post much but here is a quick skech made on the back of an evil Sudoku. Have fun!
PS. Special thanks to the fan who gave me 2 stars w/o even leaving a crit
Greetings my internet friends!
I still have no time to post much but things should be slowing down soon. Here is another dragon sketch, sadly I've had no time to pick and choose the one I want to work with but this one is talking to me better.
Sweet couple!=) I like detailed head of the dragon. The girl is also well done!
Hey Ulver, thanks for visiting my SB once again and leaving some kind words for me, it warms my heart
Anyways, here is a portrait I did for practice, I worked from a photo reference though the end result really doesn't look anything like the original. About 1 hour of work while watching a rerun of the greatest announcement concerning the 2008 presidential election on Colbert's show! I wanted to make her somewhat evil looking and the colors are very different. Anyways, comments are always welcome and might lead to free stars in your SBs!
Hey dude! Great job with your last post. Love the hair. The last post jumped out at me because it has a completely different feel than any other of your work so far. Very nice tone and colors. The second dragon has some very nice detail work to the scales. I think you're coming along very nicely with your art Keep up the awesome progress!
