Yo. Life drawing looking good, as are the sketches of the guy in armor and the growling guy. One thing i notice in a lot of your work is scratchy lines, maybe work on some contour-without-lifting the pencil excercises? Looking forward to more~
hey , i agree with fishspawn, life drawing lines seem okay just the stuff from imagination needs to be careful on the lines.iI noticed when you draw from your mind you use realy blocky lines try getting them more swooshy.
keep it up .james
Finally brought a camera to school to get pics of everything there. The sculpture and everything else are from life, except for the three self portraits. Looking back at all this now I'm seeing tons of mistakes, proportions and all that. Paintings are in chronological order.
edit: the last black and white sp was done before the rough palette knife one.
Damn man, rocking the crazy hair and beard I see? I'm really digging the oils, especially the SP's [recognize the jacket] and the guy with the gun. Progression is nice. You say these are old, what about recent work? Let us see'em! Hope things are well in your part of the world, and not too cold. Cheers!
man i need to get a working internet so i can keep up on everones sketchbooks.
hose oils are looking awsome. That last SP looks just like you. Kind of an angry look though haha.
The torso is cool too. Looks like dried clay? crit would be that it doesnt look like his shoulder muscles are attaching properly in the back. And i think there are to many heads in his abdominals.
keep at it man.
Thanks for the crits. Yeah, that AC joint or whatever on the shoulder of the torso is probably sticking out too much. They're not that old, sp's and toga guy are pretty recent, but here's another 12x 17 I did tonight. Kind of flat, still learning this shit.
Painting is spiffy, i need to get back into it. Nice bold brushstorkes, i like the energy. I do think you may have overdone the blur on the far side of the face, it takes away from the focus right now. Love the values in your pencils, great contrast. I think the top guy's legs are just a little too tiny - his arms are just as wide. Very cool armor on both. I do notice legs seem unfinished on a lot of your pieces, maybe do some studies to build your confidence there a little? Keep up the good work, looking forward to more.
Man, incredibly awesome work. I can't even begin to udnerstand light and shadow and color like you do. You're a true inspiration. i loved every single piece I looked at. And the scultpure... damn... just keep it up. You're awesome. /asspatting =]
The paints and the second pencil are looking great, agree with what fish said about legs.On the pencils i think you could push the darks a bit more.
keep it up .james
hey man, your pencils characters look awsome.
the life drawing dont look quite as good though. The first one seems like she has very short legs and the second looks like she has a small torso.
keep at it.
Dreadlocks turned out nice , looks a littlee of balance, oblivion pointed out the things I noticed on the lifedrawings. Also maybe the womans eyes are a litlle outlined.
keep it up .james
Yeah all of us need to do more life drawing Good job on that dreadlocks sketch, it has great form. I think it would benefit you on most of your work to think a little more about composition. I don't think its a problem with your paints, but your sketches might improve a lot with a little extra thought for placement on the page, etc. Keep up the hard work~
Kick awesome life studies Goblin looking good too. Work on your faces a little, they all look similar/old. The age thing might just be that you're overemphasizing the features or something like that. I see a lot of similarities to your features in many other people that you draw so you might just need a few studies to refresh your visual memory for other types of features. Keep up the good work, and post a little more often
Im liking the life drawing and that guy in armour.I agree with the others cits but also with your pencils try using a thicker nib/side of the pencil for the dark areas because they look a little scratchy.
Keep it up.james
Sp's are looking good , second and fourth are my favrouite.Life drawing is good to only thing that looks awkwad is the firsts left leg.
keep it up.james
Thanks man. So a few months ago, I had what I like to call an "unpaid internship" though really it was some guys getting together to make a game. The idea got scrapped because we had no programmers or modelers, nor the funds to hire any. Then the company went legit and started on web developement, and since I don't CSS and HTML for free, I left. I checked, and though I signed a few papers, there were no NDA's, and it was cool with the other guys if I showed this stuff, so here's what I did a while back. So there's a war wizard with the different stages of ideas to the final one with gold trim, weapons, and enviro prefabs. Another character was a lizard-like sniper, and his enviro was military complex jungle ruins.

Wow, so much great stuff! I was wondering where all of your cool digital paintings had gone off to I love the variety and the gestural quality of those sp paints. Love the evolution of the wizard and the jungle ruins. Keep working on variety in those facial features. Looking forward to more~
nice paintings and concepts, but i would watch how tall your chars are. they look kinda stumpy to me (from waist down).
youre definitely improving man, congrats so much. I feel so crappy, i havent updated in several weeks. But I finally found some free time to get on and check out everyone's latest. I promise to update soon. but man, i just had to say that I love your self portraits, your color is excellent. keep up the awesome work.
