Got a job at an indie game company (unpaid of course), so here's an illo I've got a sketch for. Also got a supervised teaching position for figure drawing in my Uni, so more of that on the way as well.
Hey man that sculpture is looking sweet. Paintings are looking great but i think it would benefit you to push the difference between foreground/ middleground/ background with contrast/saturation etc. You've done it before and i really think it makes for more interesting paints. Portrait of your brother is awesome. I really like how you did the colors in that digi sketch- the smooth gradation of warm to cool really makes it pleasing to the eye. Good to see you updating again.
Lol whatever works. Doodles are looking good. You once told me to watch the overall value transitions in my figures and I think it would help your doodles if you paid a little more attention to that - the rendering is good everywhere but its not very dynamic overall. Obviously they're just doodles but I find that our best and worst habits come out in doodle-type drawing Looking forward to the next update.
Digging the hands and the thumbnails. I think you got a *little* too carried away with the colors on the portrait - they separate his face up too much - looks like he painted his face (maybe you were going for that?) Color scheme on the chow is very nice, and I'm liking this new wip as well. Although shouldn't the guy in front be in the shadow of that building? Keep it up!
wow your painting is getting much better! i agree about color in your portraits being kind of carried away, but i like it! it's your style, i suppose.
oooooooooh! might be one of your best pieces! i love it! only crit is to tighten up the environment on the bottom (the edges aren't parallel) and her face isn't actually looking at the head...
Nice progression on that last digi dude, and nice progress in general in this sb. Dig your traditional stuff, could tighten up the oils, but they're coming along nicely. As for the digi environment, your last update, I think you could tone down that pipe in the middleground. Its very detailed and its becoming the focal point rather than the soldiers. Hope that helps. Keep up the butt kickin.

for some reason the scale in the last painting throws me off. i know the guy in the back is bigger than the guys in the front but it looks kind of confusing at first anyways. i think maybe they are too big compared to the buildings around them. i know the doorways would probably come up to the soldier's heads but maybe exaggerate it a bit more...and exaggerate the guy in the back's size even more. and i agree that the focal point is being lost a bit, but you can worry about that in the end...nothing like a nice gaussian blur or color accent to fix those kind of problems

Tim, as far as figure drawing goes, I start with a simple structure, either single straight lines for limb outlines, or a two value edgeless structure. I measure a lot to make sure the basic large shapes are correct. When you're working in a quick time frame, it's a lot of estimation. Accuracy over precision. Then you can develop those large shapes and values with tinier shapes and values, working from general estimations to specific shapes. That's how I paint too, I like the workflow that way, though some people are awesome at doing other ways.
I tried paint pen on spraypainted grounds, got some interesting stuff with it. Will update more after I finish this 100 COW thing.
I'm really digging those figurative works, and you seem to keep pumping them out one right after another with great improvments to go along with it. I'm excited that you are participating in the COW contest as well.

Thanks a lot guys! keeping me motivated. Coffee and drawing are replacing sleep these days as the COW deadline comes to it, but here's some paints. A way old SP, and the pretty much finished painting of my little brother.

Yay 5 stars! first time I've gotten that, thanks Vic. Hope all's going well in the other land down under. Here's some figure stuff I've done lately. Conte portraits were around 1.5 hrs, charcoals were 10 min, 20min, and an hour, and painting was 2hrs alla prima. I'll post digi stuff eventually after 100 COW lets me go. Trying to level up before the workshop. photo quality is a bit shitty.
