Nice uptades man, figure is just apsolut
Keep this stuff coming more regularly
Need to really soften the shadow and the edge of the jaw <> line should be shapest at the chin and soften as it goes back toward the ear.
Mentler - You are SO right. Well... IF I will get back to that. It doesn´t look too grand.
Jokisalo - Sure thing, I will keep on! Thank yoU!
Here´s something I did last thursday and friday. We were at a fair doing quicky (and crappy) portraits of the guests for a few euros. Fares were from two to five, they could pay whatever they wanted.
Not perfectly happy with any of these but definitely something I need to start doing more. Each took like ten to twenty minutes. Was fun!!! Don´t have them all pictured ( and I think the best weren´t) but the ones I have I will post here. ALL OF THEM! Argh!!!
Brilliant speedies Hiipi! I would only crit that the eyes in some of them seem set too high in the face, but for 10-20 minutes, that can be forgiven!
Hey! your life drawing is your strongest attribute in my opinion, you really have an affinity for using tonal values and halftones etc to describe form while keeping an overal coherent value scheme. I would like to see some work in other realms of art, some landscapes and some perspective perhaps, to balance out your artistic knowledge and skill base. You'd be surprised how much it ends up helping your figures too! Keep on truckin'
Life studies are looking good, only crit i can give you is that you should measure the proportions a bit more carefully. The faces occupy far too large area in most of your studies.
JUST a quick answer...
I know I should do more than what I do and I will start that soon. I think...
Here´s yesterday´s life drawing, first we made the silhuettes with ink (5 min) and then the longer one. First ink outlines and then filling it in... Have to continue meeting now so I will get back later. Oh, and a selfportrait crouching on clouds...
No more. Did some doodling today, nothing to praise but thought I would drop them in anyway.
Thank you all on the comments, I will take them all in careful concideration believe me. I know I have some problems with proportions and faces, I don´t seem to get them right ever. Always something a bit wrong, but I guess it is normal. I just have to keep doing.
Brushpen´d and Punk´d:
And a quickie on PS, just to kill boredom on a meeting:
And a sketch for a painting I would like to do... The background is supposed to be a big wave, I just didn´t have the patience to try to make it better. I should find myself a good model to take a reference pic for this painting, I do know who I´d like to get but I don´t dare to ask. So much for them artist´s balls!!!
'sup, man! Keepin' busy as hell.. me likes!
The brushpendude kicks hella ass! Killer stuff all round!
Keep 'em coming!
Beautiful update, Hiipi, real joy to look. I don't even know where to start, everything seems so interesting. Well, I'm very fond of this nude female figure on the red background. And this is life drawing, so I'm just admire it, such a great control of proportions, pencils, volume, and nice feeling of real breathing body. If it's not too much problem for you show more, show the rest figures. I never saw anyone doing this exercise. Is it hard to control, ink, I mean? Does it stay where you put it to stay?
Looked again. Wonderful. Illusion of the warm body, real person is complete, really love to see more work like this. I saved her, thanks.
SP, hehehe, OK, I believe you, could be your roommate though . I see you have a lot of space where you live. And ice is old.
I like this funny cartoon like portrait very much, especially his crazy smile, how you did eyes and this mix of the ink pen and digital coloring. Looks rough and exciting. This guy is so extreme, everything is out of normal with him. I like the blue shadows and outlined highlight on his chin, very cool, and it really creates very nice volume. Love him very much and saved. Thank you.
The PS panting looks very expressive, And I love those modest colors, got kind of tired from bright crazy color combination, back to old masters palette would be nice for a change . Temporary.
And drowning girl looks very strange. I wonder what the hell she is thinking about. She looks so deep in thoughts, like all her sensors on her skin don't feel cool water, like she doesn't realise where she is.
I'm not sure if you would see her mouth through the water like this, though.
It would swim away probably. The face from nose down in water would be slightly distorted, I think. ( An besides the water is moving, not stable, so I could be right.). Like the picture though anyway for this strange creepy sensation.
So thank you very much. It was a pleasure to see all this lovely art,
Dcept, sve - Thanks for the words! Sveta, I only finished this red one. Others I left as they are shown above. I haven´t done too much ink works but I think it is not too hard to handle, it stays pretty much where you put it. I just have to do it a lot more to learn WHERE to put it. And Sorry, you got it wrong there... The silly guy with the grin is all brushpens, no digital on top. I have these warm and cool greys which work well together. This is not a good example of it though, too messy.
Three self-portraits... Two made with oil, trying to learn a bit since I haven´t done it too much. And I wants to do it a lot.
First one I made yesterday in like 50 mins or something, really quickly without sketching at all. And there´s issues. But I care not at this point, just trying out. About 50x30 cm big.
The second one made today, took like four hours or so. It has issues also since this one went with a one minute sketch which I had to correct as I went along. This one is about 20 cm tall...
...and another one of these. Just for fun!
I love this one! http://todellisuus.net/~hiipi/Pics/miekkamies_small.jpg
Something that I haven't really been waiting from you, but it rocks. So rich in motion and dynamics.
Also the wave&girl sketch and the Hangon Silmä poster are supercool.
Hiipi, you are offering your SP for observing and I have a taboo to talk about you, I'm kind of in the hard place here. Need extra efforts not analyse you to death. OK, let's compromise, little bit of comments.
You look like in the middle of conversation or some happening in the first one. I love those streaming colors leaks, imitation of the hair, very cool. I like this exciting effect to go from flat to volume. And colors are great. Rich and not loud in the same time. [........] Here couldve been my interpretation of your personality .
In the second portrait you look a bit sad in upper part of your face and very persistent, bold in the lower one (especially the nose and very tense lips). Great portrait too. very much alive and I appreciate it enormously.
I'm loving the quickies and paintings, a bit less so with the drawings (especially the series of portraits on one scan seems particularly lacking).
This one, however, is just simply freaking amazing: http://todellisuus.net/~hiipi/Pics/pnuk2.jpg ! Keep it up!
Model class where we first messed up the paper and then erased the character out of it.
Olli (staros) did a much better job at it than I, got bored of it after a while since it didn´t work out. But here it is anywayay!
Sorry about the huge width...
Dirrrrrty Boy! - Ha ha ha ha ha haaaaaa!!! That is just WAY too much said that I remind you of Salaryman!
I don´t believe your praises anymore after this, you´re full of shit!
Juuso - Thank you!!! I appreciate your comments! I thinks we should do a night of sketching and arting
around some day over here in Tampere, just to refresh the memories of Prague. And drink beer of coz!!!
And congrats on your webpage, looked DAMN good!!!
Sveta - Girl, you can analyze me as much as you want, I won´t die! Actually it is nice to hear analyses of
what my "art" tells about me. So don´t let me stop you! Please feel free to fill in this part whenever you want:Actually I have had some troubling things running through my little head (yes it is only the rastas which makes itOriginally Posted by Sveta
look so huge ) and maybe it comes through somehow on my self-portraits. Even though I don´t do it deliberately...
Aremah - Thanks for popping in! I have my mind set now on painting, I want to learn to be better. I am really
glad you actually like what I´ve done so far! Be back, boyo!
Blacky - And the same words for you, thanks for the encouragament! I am at the moment painting one piece where
I REALLY tried to notch the realistic coloring to another level (on my standards) and I will post more when I get more.
i really like this sketch http://todellisuus.net/~hiipi/Pics/wave.jpg although the water doesnt seem to fit around the form as well as it does in the face i think...
i like your recent life drawings though i think you should put in some more landmarks eg on the knee and some more light to bring i forward. interesting approach!!
Holy crap... amazing work... ummm...think of a crit...think of a crit....
Yeah... that damn wave... looks like walls of a canyon... so take that!
beautiful linework....maybe work a little on faces but hell we all need to do that! ^^
i think your strongest work is your "cartoony" style - sort of children's book type style which i admire and am working toward. love the crazy perspective drawing you had with the kid riding the bike
Fantastic sketchbook. Every new update is in different style and technique. I'm doing lots of perspectives recently and after while this one caught my attention - http://www.todellisuus.net/~hiipi/Pics/bike_small.jpg It looks like roofs are falling into vanishing point . Really strange but funny at the same time.
I also like your pencil drawing with girl in the water.
As for some critique . I think on some of your 20min portraits the eye placement is strange. Especially on the second one in the first row.
I've said it time and time again.. no idea how I can miss amazing sketchbooks like these. Happy your in my SSG, may have not seen this till later if you weren't beautiful work you've got here, really nothing I can say that you haven't covered. Your pencil work is amazing, your anatomy and style amazing as well. As hpslashluvr said working on faces is always good, and you've done that already lol. great stuff, keep up the great work!
ps. love that afro pic you have in your first post! I remember looking at the pics from that workshop and seeing that one; didn't know who it was though. either way great stuff
Hey yay!!!! I have me own Sketchgroup now, nice of you to come pop in. I do have to return the favor I guess... ;-) Thanks to y´all and winks to Christian the Dirty, I believe you have NO clue... (ofcozudo)
Another self-portrait, oil and thirty mins...
Now I will go check out my SSG-pals.
very cool SP... I need to paint...
The only thing is that your face is looking very flat in this one. I'm loving the colors, though!
i like the sp, it is a bit lopsided though but just barely....not quite digging the green but maybe it'll grow on me ^^
