thanks for the votes on the day of the week poll. i'll definitely ask again closer to this fall's school time for the sake of the ACA + AIA folks in our midst. the catl mini's are such a blast. come out, draw your arse off, then leave majorly inspired
Trying to put together a portable doom format document for coordination purposes... should be able to send out tomorrow if work relents from the manic pace it has been going at. grrrrrr... but that's another matter entirely.
i hope that today's burst of silliness-was as enjoyable for you guys as it was for me i definitely pulled a couple of "lol"s maybe, maybe maybe even a "roflmao" or two.
wait... thought you guys weren't meeting last night...?
come the school year, I prolly won't be able to do much... but that again depends on the schedule... let's just say mine will be rather... 'tight' =(...
fae: hate for you all to miss out on the minimeets. good times, those. in a way, i think they've been as good or better for my artistic drive than the big events. Plus, you get to see Joel in the floppy knit hat once a week--bonus!
I know everyone works differently and everyone has his or her own way about going about attaining knowledge, but I've got to be downright honest here. In contrast to the various drawing programs, groups, and hipper-than-hip artiste socials presently available in the Atlanta area, these CATL meetings have surpassed anything I've experienced locally...Originally Posted by Artifex33
Firstly, CATL provides a broad collection of talented individuals, sparked by similar interests, willing to share their experiences and ideas with you to help you improve your art chops. I have not been to a single meeting where I've not picked up some valuable technical skill from Wesifex that has made an immediate impact on what I'm toiling with in the evenings.
Secondly, CATL is not a pretentious coterie of artistes searching to unlock the hidden truths of the world by painting eggplant-like babies in Wendy's catsup packets and loose stool...No, we're a happy crew of bastards (and bastardesses) with a serious commitment to improvement, imagination, and preparing ourselves for the day we finally mount our massive artistic assault...While we may not all have the same destination for our art, we are certainly preparing ourselves to not live out our lives showcasing our pastoral scenes or renditions of Native-American chieftains at the Buck County Fair every year...
Thirdly, CATL is a CATaLyst. While the minimeets are proving the most valuable to my needs, I find that even if you can only attend the larger events, you'll find enough artistic momentum to carry you through for a solid week or so. Some of us need more prodding than others to push the "100 hours a week" philosophy, when we're really only committing a couple hours here and there to improving. I sketch leading up to our meetings, during our meetings (barring any Fae-induced graphite suckage by her absence), and promptly upon returning home...I may take a few days off here and there to fill in my literary needs, but I certainly have started a healthy little pencil-to-paper addiction...
Lastly, CATL is a community. You need help with something you're working on, you'll find it...Got a question about setting the scatter on your brushes, you'll get an answer...Need a buddy to tell you that you're special and that you're going to grow up into a beautiful butterfly someday, Fingerless has a complete battery of lush compliments to shower you with...Sure you can work alone, scribbling the same hard-won mistakes down on paper, believing everything that you do is unbridled magic...Or, you can come on out, meetup with a few colorful characters, and start growing in ways all artists should...

AD: Hear! Hear!
Wanna improve in something? Hang out with people who feel the same way. Old advice, and good advice.
AD: It does me proud to know that you put so much effort into your posts here....bravo
Getting excited over here about our big meet on Sunday, and maybe Monday.
Looking forward to all the pretty flowers.....seriously......real men like flowers.....stop staring at me.
"one is a nice intimate time to draw whatever you want, the other is like a cool fieldtrip"
Beyond that i really get a lot out of exploring new things and interesting places with a group of amazing artists who really enjoy the art, the gravy, the desire for good drawings, studies, and then later possibly incorporating those into their works and filing the insane new visions, jokes, interactions away into mental filing cabinets for later use and reference. the time spent drawing afterwards is immensely valuable as well. the session after the zootrip was particularly fun.
hope to see all of you on sunday... tammy, wes hope you guys make it out!
Yo, my hard drive crashed so I wont have regular access to a computer until I can get it fixed (probably a couple of weeks). I'll try to keep up with the schedule on sunday, but I'll probably just call guggen to get the details that morning. SEE YOU ALL SUNDAY!
just a little heads up... my next two/three weeks are gonna be a ridiculous display of insanity...
what does that look like?
a) I need to find a decently priced apartment to dish out my savings towards... need to do that in about... by wednesday. Sign the lease. Etc. I'm doomed =(
b) I am going to Kentucky for a few days... Thurs. through Sunday or something... that'll bring me to the 30th...
c) I have to pack and move and clean somewhere right after that... RIGHT after that.... I guess that means I need to transfer my utilities...
d) I am trying to still revamp and pull together a more complete portfolio as well as do a practice/test piece for the possible job stuff... which, I don't know the exact timeline on, but it seems he's tryin' to move fast enough.
e) I might be going Aug 8th to Connecticut for an company outting... though... i'll feel bad if i turn in my two weeks right after that... and all, so I don't know.
f) school starts mid to middish-late aug... gotta figure out my schedule, since it's definitely NOT right.
g) I need to, after having dished out a pretty penny and sat at the car-place all afternoon yesterday, get even more expensive things done. Busted struts and a transmission fluid flush don't add up to be too cheap =(
Fae: Moving, traveling, finishing off projects, cars blowing up? You'd better check yo'self, before you wreck yo'self...
Firstly, let me help save you some time:
A) Why are you reading this? Stop and go here: apartments.com...
B) I hate to break it to you, but The Colonel is already dead...I had hoped your lust for revenge against popcorn chicken had long since died with him..."Tammy, put your guns in the ground...You can't shoot them anymor-or-ore..."
E) If you're going to bail on the company, bail on the outing. Why skip out of town when you've got more pressing issues to contend with? Your time would be better spent fulfilling A and sorting out D...
F) See above answer (A, D, and F easily taken care of)...
G) I have a comment for G: I've seen you drive. I have no idea how you're able to pop that sucker up on two wheels or blast through a discreetly arranged collection of wooden barrels (a' la Knight Rider-style), but I can say that it's an expensive habit that's putting your Marietta Rocket in the sickhouse...
I hope you get all this sorted out and without having to threaten grievous bodily harm to anyone...
For the rest of you lot: T-minus 0:1:24:19 until CATL Bot Gardens Shakedown 2006! It looks like it's going to be absolutely Jurassic this weekend, so dress accordingly (Jurassic equals: wet, sticky, and steamy...feel free to insert Jungle Love from Morris Day and The Time right here...)

god hard drive problems....disk utilities might do the trick...it's worth a shot...has saved my arse several times in the past... but the panicked and wholly improvised $EIGHTY FRIGGIN NINE DOLLAR software purchase wasn't any fun for me. (in hindsight it was worth it, however.)
Thatcrazyfae, Analogvorbis DodgeballerINGinvestments:
A.) Yikes... I feel your pain here on trying to find a place to live, tammy... geez, i'm doing the same thing right now and the commute between THA ROZZY and midtown everyday seems to gobble up all of my time. I've been finding some good stuff on craigslist with the price range + pets feature, but my roommate and i haven't touched base often enough and the end of the month is looming like a dark ink splattered cloud on the horizon that grows closer and reaches with outstretched gnarled tentacles. Good luck and let me know if you find any good deals--> my own search has been fruitless, but like yourself i'm something of the I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO ANYONE SOCIOPATH so picking up the handset and having the operator connect me to potential apartments or lease situation seems so daunting? why must i be insane?
b.) ahh, the heartland. kentucky. avoid musicals while you are there...but conversely try to enjoy their gridlike road system. really...it's a piece of frigging grid paper until you run into the dang mississippi river, at which point the grid gets a little crunker. sorry but AnsweredwrongDude--> the colonel will live forever in his cool new CARTOON VERSION, complete with white suit and energy-charged BUCKET O' POPCORN CHANKEN!
c.) utility schmutility. god moving is such an awful endeavor. why is it that i always end up having to move in the DEADENING MOIST HEAT of summer? not sure ... but a nice spring or winter move might be nice sometime. why do i hoard so much junk? utilities--> i really don't want a place with gas anything, but this may be unavoidable.
d.) good luck on the portfolio...sounds like you are actively pursuing some leads, but you should know something so that you can tell your current folks before the trip...hereby seconding AmbientDollop's suggestion...that's your precious time and the tammy i know doesn't have any of that precious commodity to spare. higher pay + more creative control is something that you should seek out.
e.) covered this in my last d.)licious paragraph (^). word up AD speaks Portable Doom format® TRUTH TO THE YOUTH!!!
f.) school? somewhat relieved to hear that you are going back, i know you were on the fence sometime ago.
g.) car problems = holy batman's spinebreaking BANE of my existance. fortunately this summer my ac hasn't gone out yet. but we're burning oil folks, and gugggggenevercheckshisoilmaneuver until i get some warning from my car's HAL9000 style computer
i shared some of my sweet image collection with the man the myth the fingerless legend last night...
i'm going to have to burn some DVDs for you guys...i got files to share
a good time was had, sorry for the short / lack of notice
huggs and guggs!
SUNDAY'S gonna rule
Guggs: Don't be so easily fooled by this cartoon imposter of "The Colonel." Toon Sanders is just a distraction used by the grand forces of the restuarant-formerly-known-as-Kentucky-Fried-Chicken to keep you within their greasy, saturated-fat grasp...
Artifex: What the hell, man? I'm glad you got The Junior Tarzan of Terror to sit still long enough to snap a photo of him, but what on earth (or under the earth) are you feeding that kid? 'Cause if that's what happens with a McD's Mighty Kids Meal...I'm freakin' upgrading...Man, can't wait to get that kid in a pit fight...My money's on JT o' Terror...
i just met Matt/"SevnRaiz" and it sounds like he's going to make it out on sunday! Also, special new addition and old friend of mine Ty Morgan is going to be making the trek as well along with melissa/"motyka" from ROMEGA! sunday is rolling with the big crowd!
Important Note: I will likely have to go to work at some point on sunday...i'm on call this weekend, so my sketchgroup activities will be limited to 12-4pm... but maybe i'll get lucky and not get called. I am however down for Apache cafe ARTMONDAYs and will not be tied to being on call that night. anyone else down???
THIS CATL SKETCHGROUP NEWS JUST IN FROM CONNECTICUTICUTT:
me: "awwwww man i wish I were in CT for some sketchin w/ yall... any fun tips or ideas for sketchgroup activities? down here with the herd of CATL we're doing pretty good, keeping it regular like metamucil, and churning out the collabs + crits, but would of course love to hear about the CT Sketchgroup's Pillaging and dominating the sketch-scene"
Helzon: "Well to tell the truth Joel,
Sartell has been the one that has been coming up with the themes of the evening. Otherwise, Brendan is usually tommy gunning out some sketches for work while it's mostly chatting and spreading tons of geek love for the Finally finished section. Can't say as we've been doing collabs or the like just yet. Though that's a pretty wild idea. One other idea though that me and Brendan came up with was to actually create a fictional place and basically end up having that place fleshed out from any angle, style, format, or any perspective you want. It will allow one to focus ones weaknesses and get feedback and such. Also going at it with the idea of bulking up the portfolio. But the only other game we got is to not get shivved by the head hostess on the way out, or in for that matter.
Pretty fun, minus the bleeding.
I really like that idea...will have to try to not get shivved by head hostesses on sunday. Still putting together infopacket. will send before i leave work today.

Excerpt taken from The Official An Office Made Entirely of Cheese Visitor's Brochure:
It starts with a dream - a vision of professionalism and quality encased in a lightly-fried cheese puff. It starts with an idea - that productivity, attention to core business values, and a commitment to providing leading-edge service to clients of all shapes and sizes can be met behind a wall of wheels, bricks, and wedges. These are the foundations of An Office Made Entirely of Cheese.
Founded in January of 2004 by a young Georgian from the small town of Macon, An Office Made Entirely of Cheese quickly redefined the 21st Century Workspace Ideal.
"It's about creating a space - a working environment, within the work environment," says founder Special K. HugeHarHar. "I wanted to find a way to help the modern workforce be able to take the spaces assigned to them by their corporate logistics staff and turn them into their own subjective places to work, to cultivate positive business practices, and to express their own unique sense of creativity, especially through the use of cheese."
If you ever get a chance to visit An Office Made Entirely of Cheese, don't miss the cafeteria. Tuesdays they have the best French Market Onion Soup. Also, the gift shop has the best prices on Kraft-brand collectibles, for you processed-cheese-collecting nutbags...

FYI, it looks like I'll be there for the bot gardens tomorrow, with wife and behorned and befanged child in tow. We're looking to get there around 11am, have a quick bite to eat that we're lugging along with us, then meet up with you folks at 12pm.
I see that the meeting spot is the parking lot, but I'll already be inside, so I'll wait for you guys at the shady fountain directly inside the entrance. It'll be kind of hard to walk past without noticing at least Steiner (unless he's incognito under the goblin mask) and Joel, abundant with knitted hatness.
Guggen If you have something ready for RACA, You can hand it off to me Sunday and I'll bring it up for ya. I've got a bunch O xtra frames if that is a potential issue. So Stoked about SUnday, and that Ty is comin with...see ya then.
No, I forsee tomorrow being free of alternative egos...Still too hot...Hell, I had a hard enough time just getting a photo together for Chauncey's portrait project...It's like gluing a damn sponge to your face...Originally Posted by Artifex33

As per various mentions, I will have a freshly shorn head tomorrow for people to follow...If you get lost or need to signal the rest of the crew, just push me out into an open space and I'll toss up the Steinerman signal...Just don't abuse it...My people weren't made for bright summer days, folks...
+AD hearts you
yes, joel, yes...
I know how strongly you feel about the fact that i indeed managed to obliviate you yesterday. With the proper dosage of green-eggs-and-ham-frapps and bovine therapy, you should return to the correct 'normal' abnormalness you typically exhibit. =)
