Ive been using a Wacom for just about a year now (Dec), and while reading books on digital art I've noticed that the techniques for adding values to a digital painting are pretty much the same in most books.
Most tutorials / books say that you should first do your sketch, then add the lights and darks in B&W, and THEN add the color while keeping the B&W sketch on a multiply layer.
When I do my illustrations I do a pencil sketch then I add color and then I add the values over the color....To me it's easier this way.
What I want to know is, is this a rule that should be strictly followed?
Do I need to retrain myself to add value first and then color or should I stick to doing it the way I feel most comfortable??
