Soft bound book of 100 pages with over 200 pencil sketches drawn in 12 weeks on paper napkins, placemats, and newspaper while eating at various café’s. Each sketch taking somewhere between 5-15 minutes, Scribblin' Away at Mike's Cafe is born from the no frills, quick sketch style that has become signature to Rik Maki.
Without any formal art training, this son of an artist, has been sketching ever since he was a small boy living in Vancouver Canada. Inspired by Willard Mullin, Lew Saw and Mad Magazine and today being so surrounded by technology, Rik Maki just keeps on drawing.
He has been a designer in the animation industry for over 27 years and has spent the last 18 years as a Character Designer for Walt Disney Feature Animation. Scribblin’ Away at Mike’s Café is his first of many books that are just filled with characters and situations that quickly flow from the imagination, to the pencil, to the paper from Rik Maki.
