getting very impressed...very tittilated with the hand studies, keep up the great work bro.
OMG - dude, you are insane. But I know what's really going on:
Your have locked yourself into a room to draw for eternity. You have hair past your ass, long fingernails, and a scraggly beard now. You only drink 2 liter bottles of Dr. Pepper, eating protein bars and unsalted cashew nuts mixed with dried apricots for flavor. You shit and piss in a nearby garbage can and occasionally rub one out between sketches.
You can't keep this up forever. You must go outside and converse with your fellow man, sniff the flowers, and shit in a real toilet. It's only proper.
- all kidding aside...very inspirational to see you working so hard, and getting such kickass results. Vigostar and I were just talking...."that Bumskee....he's blowin' up...he's gettin' GOOD!"
keep it going bro...lovin it!
Dude, uve created a monster of a thread. love the hands
All those little people! How do you do it, bumskee? Hey, have you ever heard of Bill Cummings? He's a painter (old too, now) that does people in motion - abstract. He used to take his sketchbook out and draw people just like you're doing now. He sells his paintings for thousands of dollars now. Crazy. See where you'll end up? Cheers!
Perre, few hours... me and adma talk too much!! hehe.. well you could always go draw landscape.. that would be kewl..
ZebzFree, I think with photos you know you figures won't disappear.. and life is more fun I think, especially on a crowded place, you see so many good gestures that you want to quickly draw.. definitely from life. I know I am really glad I got to meet up with adam and rodrigo. awsome bunch.
Badger, *waves back* thanks, I picked up pen because I bumped into cotron's thread, he's got some nice lines.
madplanet, hahaha, sorry about the man woman thing.. the initial sketch was so "woman" but ... after the lips just went right to "guy".. hehe.. thanks for the kind words..
elsleepycrab, drawing in public is very intimidating I think, I started back in may this year I think, when I started this SB.. I was so noticing everyone looking over my shoulders or something, but these days I just do what I do and not care.. it's a little uncomfortable, but a small price to pay for a great experience I reckon.
mentler, thanks for the big compliment, hehe tiny people. thanks heaps for the encouragement.
Magic Man, hey dude. thanks for the compliment.. more hand studies coming, in fact I think i will be drawing heaps of hands for a while.. heh
loomer, HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH dude, how the hell did you know?!?? hahah busted hey?? you forgot "smoking" I smoke a lot.. too much I think.. I been up since 5am today.. a little hazy ... heheh...you such a funny bastard loomer.. serioulsy you crack me up man.. heheh.. thanks heaps for the compliment it means so MUCH to me!. oh I am a bit hungry better go and eat some protein bars.. YUM~
Hayabusa, thanks dude!!
Tei, it's like me asking you "how do you do...everything??!?!?!?!?!" I think I already asked you..and you said "practice..practice.." hehe.. no I haven't heard of Bill Cummings, thousands of dollars??!?!? awsome.. hahaha.. meh. Thanks for dropping by, and for the nice words. cheers!
thanks everyone for the encouragement, it really gets me going.. well small update, another hand study and some WIPS. *adam you have seen these already..thanks for the C&C *
I really got bored towards the end.. it's on A2 paper.. with a pencil.. bridgman hand studies.. I love his drawings very very loose..
WIPs, need lot more work, i think her skin tone is off, meh wonder how long it will take for me to do all the details.. yikes.. I think it will be lot darker and sharper.. It's from the pencil sketch of the forest I did a page earlier I think..
I had a figure in there but took him out.. thinking of throwing bunch of fairies in there.. but how?
Just felt like painting something silly.. *weird*

wanted to get you back for all the great support over in my SB.
Great work on the last two nature paints,,,reminds me much of the great craig mullins,, very impressive... I really enjoy how much gesture and texture are dictating the flow and info,,,,so loose and masterful... makes seeing the whole thing at a glance very easy and appealing. I think if you want to put faries in the waterfall one, you should try to find more of a focus in the composition by darkening the perimeter and lightening the hot spot,,,,that way when you start popping little bright lights (faries) in there, you will have an easier time establishing how deep or shallow they each are in the pictorial space. I also think you could work up more darks over the water fall in the distance,,,,,it would add a lot of depth,,,,that painting could go very far because it is built very well and open to lots of options.
About the girl in the sunbeam,, I love how it looks right now,,, but if you have the urge,,,, and something is bugging you,,,well,,,,,britt once told me,,"if part of a drawing or painting is bugging you,,,just erase it and try it from new instead of trying to adjust" that advice has helped me so much,,, when a part of something bugs me now,,,whoosh, I just frikkin' wipe it out,, ( but first I save a snapshot of it hehe)
beautiful hand studies from bridgeman,,, I think of all the things he has to offer in terms of anatomy,,,, his hands are the best,, good choice.
the weird painting is great. It is a great thing to see dark saturated reds functioning in the way they do here,,, where it is doing so many things for the pic,,,, making depth,,, acting as the darkest note, even though it is a bright color.. bravo,,,, the girls back is done great, too,,, breezy and simple..
As for the pages and pages of little people you are doing from life,,,, that is the best thing to do in the whole world, I think,,,,,,,,, It just populates your mind with poses and character types... keep at it,, they look awesome..
I guess I am dragging on,, but I wanted to comment on the greyscale figures that proceed the pages of tiny people......These look very neat,,, they all seem to apply the same formula of shading and the same lightsource, too........ Just an idea, but if you were to try painting those in just blues, browns and orange greys,,, they would be even doper,,,,,, also,,, try moving the lightsource around with those,,,, it is good excercise,,,,,,a strong reflected light would be neat to see in those too....
well,, I am prolly hurting your eyes by now,,, but it is awesome to see your progression and discoveries,, can't wait for more out of you.
Those environments are awesome!! Personally, I wouldn't go into more detail on the forest scenes, they look great now - but that's my opinion! I love the 'sketchiness' of it - reminds me of the backgrounds for "Bambi" - very oriental in feel. All right - one of these days (these busy, busy days) I'll try drawing tons of teenie weenies too...practice practice...
Flaskpost, hehe thanks dude, I did feel silly at the time though.. "sugar bun land.."
Fellah. your presence is appreciated.. heh

codakromek, woah.. thanks heaps for the crits and comments.. really appreciated it, don't think I had anyone compliment and comment so much on my work before.. .. Form, yeah the thing about pastel is you can cover so much area in short period of time.. and the thickness can easly be controlled. yeah let's go with some large paper next time. thanks for the compliment

vigostar, dan milligan and me in one sentence? hehe thanks for the mega compliment.

small update.. I feel a bit sick.. ewww.. must be all the coffee..
sketch on the train..
these were sketches with adam last sat, got them scanned.. hopefully it's not too rough to figure out what they are..
painting, i am not going to work on this any further..about 1.5hrs in PS.. trying desperately to create that mystical moooooood.. meh..
Looks like you succeeded pretty well to me! Although, you might want to lighten up the light - it seems a little bright for mystical...and maybe, further back in those wonderful trees, have some more light beams. Very faint, mind! I love that sketched tree!! Wonderful!
Oh, man.. Min- you def. got that Dan Milligan spirit in you with those enviros.!!! I love them..... and that sketch of that tree... WOW.. super impressive... whats nice about your coloring is that its so loose.. you could almost pick up one of those fantastic lines with my hands!!!! Man.... after going to the demo over the weekend I finally feel like Ive gotten out of my huge slump... Im going to the life drawing class tonight.. gonna bomb my sketchbook thread with big heaps of crap.... Gotta catch up to you...!
Mainloop- man i must be dyslexic.. cuz i thought you asked how many people are on lsd
Hi, bumskee! Enjoying your new work. A lot of air and light feeling in those drawings of the pier and under a tree. Was it a morning? It feels like a morning. Pleasant feeling of a new day freshness. The same goes to your earlier posted drawing with big tree and people on a bus stop, I guess. Technique is very interesting, this confident stokes, they look almost like brush stokes. The drawing have the transparency of watercolors. And pastels are beautiful again.
I understand why most of the people on sketches with their backs to a viewer. But to the end I've got an urge to run around them and meet their eyes.
