ok, so i thought i'd give this sketchbook thing another try. Critiques are always welcome. enjoy...
I wish I could critique your stuff, but being a beginner, there's honestly nothing I can see that I could even begin to mention! What I can say is that you have very lovely artwork, and that you should continue to post as many as you can for all to see. Keep up the great work!

ok, so in an effort to improve the speed at which i work i've decided to start timing my paintings, first off a landscape that i just put half an hour into. It's still quite rough but i'll be posting it's progression as it goes along. Any tips/suggestions/comments and critiques are very welcome. so here it is at 30 minutes:
The old man and the steam machine is my favourite. This last one is looking very nice, yeah it's never good to rush, but as you already know its pretty easy to overwork something too. I'm really liking your stuff, keep it up.
Your digital paintings are looking great, especially the characters/costumes.

This concept is looking good, but something awkward is happening with the scale and the ultra-level land areas. It might be cool if one of the cities had been built on the sloping cliffs of a river valley. Just a thought I had while viewing
Hey! Neat stuff. The very first pic in your post, of the soldier guy in the gloomy industrial sort of place is my favorite.
Your last painting that you've been timing... I actually like the middle version of it the most, even though its not quite finished. In your final one, you've lost a lot of the depth that you had before, due to adding more detailing all over. As objects get further and further away, they tend to be softer, less detailed, and less saturated due to atmospheric perspective. You can try breaking things into stages (foreground, midground, background) and treating each with a specific level of detail, to add depth.
I think maybe also... something a little odd is happening with the perspective... The very foreground area (cliffs, river) seem like we are looking almost straight down on them, but as you go further back (the city, mountains), it seems more like we're viewing them more straight on, only seeing a little of their top surfaces. What I would do is maybe raise up the foreground, so we are more obviously looking straight "into" the valley.

Shadeykris hit my points about the perspective. In your original, there's a big moment in the center on the right where the higher perspective lines are more declined than the lines at the ground, really confusing, but easy fix and you're onto a really neat environment already.
In your first post, with the hanging sac/egg, to me, it seems like it would need to be a lot darker considering the 2 guys at the entrance need flashlights, and the egg has the same lighting as the world outside the cave.
Continuity is key, sir! Quick, easy fixes for you. Great start here, don't stop drawing!

i'll be posting revisions and some new stuff soon, really busy right now trying to set up a website for myself.
went back and revised some things based on comments, still have kinda mixed feelings on the city landscape thing but i think it's a bit better from a technical standpoint at least, the cave painting is definitely much better with the darker values (thanks again to IanE for pointing that out!)
also a couple new things, trying out some portraiture kinda things just for a change of style and subject, they're not great but I'm having fun with them, based more-or-less off photographs found on google, critiques and comments are welcome as always...
been trying out some new brushes and techniques recently, I'm pretty pleased with the results so far. I may go back into this one later but at the moment I'm not really sure what i want to do with it, so I'm calling it done for now. sadly I've been really busy lately and haven't had much time for painting
I think that last enviro is really nice.. I notice a great difference in your characters from your enviros, they are much more up tight and polished up in a less interesting way, but in your environments for some reason you let loose much more.. i think that absolute first enviro you posted is really good also. That series of characters, this is just my personal oppinon but i think they are quite lacking compared to your other work. You seem to restrict yourself to one color per section kind of, like one of those coloring books. A single color surface is mostly flat and not very interesting. Maybe try to mix in alot of different colors on a single surface/section, also play with the textures. I also see that in that last environment, though you have worked alot more with the textures here and its more loose and interesting, your range in color, value and lighting is pretty limited. Try to give those dead surfaces life by addng variation, movement and widen your range of color, value. Keep pushing your environments and introduce the same approach as with the enviros to your characters and i think you could make some great improvement! Good stuff! Good luck! Keep it up!
FrozZT : Thanks a bunch for the Crit! the super-tight and boring thing is something that i've been trying to overcome in my work for a long time, and still working on. the "coloring-book" thing is something i hadn't really noticed before but i totally see it now, i'll try to keep an eye out for that in future. thanks again!
ok, not really anything new at the moment but i finally got around to taking pictures of some traditional media stuff from this past schoolyear and figured i'd put em up. first one is charcoal, second is ink+watercolor and the others are all chalk pastel, all but the second are from observation.
wow, ok, so i now officially fail at updating this thing.
anywho let's see if i can fix that. here's some recent stuff, the first two are photostudies, middle two are from life, and the rest are from imagination...
let me know what you think, all critiques are welcome!
some still-lives i did a little while ago 90, 45 and 25 minutes respectively
and some quick (45min-1hour each) paintings based off reference photos i took on Riverstreet in Savannah...
