i love it more and more!!!
Ooh, cool, page 4!
redpaint - Thanks, "The Last Unicorn" was one of my absolute favorite movies when I was a kid.
Carnifex - Thanks dude, I knew you had it in you! You're right about the cat's tail...and probably about the stretching against the tree too - although I was basing it more on domestic cats when they scratch. At least, the last two I've had like to lie low to the ground, even when scratching vertically. Whatever! Appreciate it as always!
Quinster - stop it dude, you guys are making me blush! Thanks!
Icey - Thanks man, nice to see you here again - and thanks for starting page 4 for me!!
Was on girl kick this time: just messing around with hair and angles. Some don't quite work, but that's the point of trying!
Some experimenting with creative animals. Not very far from the original I know, but give me time! Oh, and Carnifex, I did a knobby, somewhat drooling dragon for you!
And the evolution of a furry. I'm just curious why anthropromorphic animals are okay until they look too human - are we weirded out by things that look 'almost' human but not quite? I'm not advocating sex kitten stuff (kinda hard to tell from that pose though...erm... ) just normal stories. I don't normally like to post this stuff either, because of the stigma I perceive is attached to people who draw this way. Consider this my genuine question: what's so bad? (besides those who choose to portray them sexually - I don't agree with that) Feel free to reply, vent or muse to this...I would like to hear other people's views on it.
Hey, cool new post. Sex kitten...how come you made it a mouse if its supposed to be a sex kitten
you can definately say that we are weirded out by too human beings. just think of a robot that looks like a real human but doesn't act so.imagine the blank stare he gives you-it's DAMN creepy.
about the dragon-aw c'mon you can do better than that! it looks like some manga-fan's pathetic attempt to make cool eyes and a twisted neck-without knowing there are bones underneath. let's try to do this more simple. make a tiger/cat,who is either a)dripping wet or b)stuck in some slime and trying to get out.
show me some! you've got it in you!
Quinster - you know what I mean!
Carnifex - I guess so. hm. Didn't like my dragon! *sniff* Ah you're right, I was concentrating more on 'ugly' marks than anatomy. Y'know, some people say cute is hard. No way! Cute is easy - UGLY is hard! Well, I put a foal struggling in some mud. How about that? Or did you want completely covered in mud?
Horse! And kitten! Yay for cute!
Okay, if anyone is interested, I just started this thread in the "Tutorials, Tips and Tricks" subforum: Animated Animals 101
yeah, like that. take it further. make the slime alive, trying to grip and pull the horse down with thin tentacles that hang like spiderwebs. like, make it thin slime.
awesome tips on the "drawing animals" btw.
That cracked me up! The way you draw seems to reflect a happy personality (for the most part). Thats why its enjoyable for me to see. Alot of what people draw seems to be "Anti-Cute". It makes sense that you're having a hard time with the dragon. Maybe try doing a cute dragon and get most of the features, then make one thats ugly. As for the tiger in a dripping mess? I'll leave that up to canifexOriginally Posted by Teigrob

Carnifex - Thanks! Hopefully it'll be helpful, and I hope to learn loads too! hehehe...I think you'll like this one...
Quinster - Thanks, I love cute...'spose I'm stuck in a rut sometimes, which is why I like everyone's suggestions. Dang! Just remembered - I'll get to your squirrel bartender here sometime...
Pesmerga - Glad you like - more of the same!
All right Carnifex, you wanted slime? Behold, slime! I was just going to do the first one, but when I showed it to my roommate she was horrified! "You can't leave it like that! Show him beating the slime, showing it who's boss!" So that's why...
This is a continuation of my furry question - do these weird you out, Carnifex? Hopefully not - that's certainly not my intention!
yeaaahhhh that's the way to do it! when seeing the first pic i was going to suggest you make a comic outta it,but you already did that,so...do a follow-up! i love it!
about the furry-nope it doesn't freak me out. that would be like getting freaked by mickey mouse.
although less fur is more appealing i guess...
bumskee - thanks dude
Carnifex - Yay! I did it! It was fun to do too.
Nothing much interesting today - wanted to study backs (suck!), did a girl (really sucks! gah, Fellah's not the only one who needs to do more... ) and a cloth study from the drapery tutorial. It's sideways, in case anyone's wondering...
That back is sure as hell better than mine.
Patience and practice...lots an' lots of practice! Even after all that, you'll still need to practice...dagnabbit...
Okay, one more page for today! More girls - they look a little better, thankfully. And a unicorn! Their deer-like bone structure allows them to travel amazingly fast, while their wolfish paws allow them to hide their tracks when being trailed by humans.
well, that's the weirdest perception i've yet seen of a unicorn-good job!
but i like the woman top left most of all. her pose is so delicate and flowing-it reminds me of a cat stretching and curling. perhaps you should do humans with animal spirits.
You really filled 4 pages here with awesome stuff! I really love that version of the unicorn, looks a bit like that asian unicorn, Kirin, Quilin or how it is called. I also like the costume there, details!!
I still can't stop observing you here
Lost in this Dimension - Found in the Sky
Time to draw something.. NOW!
Carnifex - hehe, I didn't know WHAT I was going to end up with when I started that unicorn. Fact is, I didn't know it was a unicorn until it was all done and I added the horn. Don't do that sort of drawing very often, but it's pretty fun.
Lizkay - Thanks! I believe the asian unicorn is called ki-lin. (I'm probably wrong - just trying to remember from "The Unicorn Girl" by Anne McCaffrey)
Well, I did one girl doing a 'bird dance' a la Native American dances. It's the first thing that came to mind when you said 'animal spirits', Carnifex. Actually, she reminds me more of Las Vegas showgirls, but, erm... Also, I need help on male torsos. Fellah!! Tips please! Anyone else too - crits vastly appreciated!
Old character, 'Abiah' the kodiac bear. expression sheet!
Oh you are just showing off with those girls I am totally in love with the one from yesterday - not hard to guess which one is it? I might end up doing Teigrob styled girls next to my wonky demons lol. Good work.
You got the proportions on the males down solid - the last ones raised arm - maybe drag the outline down a bit where it bends. A male posing needs to be cool at all times i think. The poses are a bit like a females really. A bit to soft maybe (this is a cool thing to play with sometimes btw). when i draw dudes i think of them like they are made of stone - like solid rocks. They dont move much but when they do you better not be in the way. Thats the look i try to bring out. Also dudes dont hang their head down - only if the pose has some kind of latent outburst in it. Like preparing to attack. Otherwise they have their heads high. Heh, sounds like animals. Maybe think of them as lions or something? I like the look and size of your torsos a lot - make them big, but not too big. i think you hit that pretty good. Avoid kliches but some use parts of them anyway etc. I think of more later, hope this made any sence?
your very good. What kinda of pencils you use mostly?
bumskee - the unicorn?? Perhaps you mean the bird gal? I'd love to colour either one - but I think I'll stick to apples for now!
Fellah - Thank you so much! That was very helpful - especially the 'lion' tip. Tried to incorporate it in the following...
Blahm - Thank you! hehe, just one pencil: .5 mechanical! Nothing special there!
Some more male torsos...another girl...and I think my animals are getting jealous!
love the expression sheet.
what i meant by "animal spirits" is more that you give your humans animal characteristics. because, you give your animals human characteristics-so why not the other way round? (you know, make someone look like a fox, snake, bear etc.)
Carnifex - oh ho - I do that ALL the time, just don't post 'em. You mean like my mouse lady? Oh yeah, those are my favorite. I got squirrels, foxes, badgers, skunks...you name it, I've probably done it. Well, except for koalas...Nah, I figured that kind of stuff is more appropriate over at Elfwood or Deviant Art - 'course, don't know how appropriate what I DO post is for here! You wouldn't believe the story arc I've come up with either for them...but like I said, figured there wasn't much interest in them here. Or I could be totally misconstruing what you're asking for... btw, you didn't miss anything.
waronmars - Thanks! Not bad yourself - keep up on those horses! hey, if you're interested, I've got an animal tutorial running that's focused on horses at the moment. Click here .
Blah, drawing today was like pulling teeth...wasn't really inspired to do anything, so I did a bunch of different stuff.
ok, this is soooooo behind, but i ADORE the slime beating. especially the huffing through his nose. oh the frustration in that one, hehe.
im not entirely sure why, but i liked your original 'guy torso's' better than the second set. probably just because the second set is more of a prctise and the first was an experimanet? lol, nothing to do with anything int his comment. i think they were more relaxed in the first - fellah said guys are like solid rock, which is a good thought, but they are often relaxed and clumsy and fidgety too. confusing? lol, you will do them your way.
wow, i love your stuff, amazing!
when i saw the title, i was like "if this is gunna be drawings of zebras and horses... i dunno" then i came in, i love it all!

There's a ton of great stuff here. Big props on your mastery of expression and movement. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread!
awesome sketches..i admit to copying some of yours..you have a mastery of expression that i like..
