Great stuff Purb...the mouths!!
Great stuff Purb...the mouths!!
yo purb good stuff brotha ! keep it coming !!! hows everything in japan? the teaching? im in training for our next thunderdome, lol, hopefully in a couple months everything will get back to normal and ill be able to draw some more with ya in the dome !!!
"your never as good......and your never as bad.....as you think"
nikuman - shokuuuuuuuuuPUNCH! hey man, glad you stopped by. glad you like the mouths. yeah, if theres anything i really need to work on a ton, its value stuff; ill never get better at it if i dont practice that. ill be workin on it. (ps. since you know you dont do it yourself, put more tonal range into your own stuff too. )
jeik - merci beaucoup, mon ami. ton sketchbook aussi, il y a plein de bonne chose a voir.
sajad - sajad, sajad...whats up my man? glad to hear youre doing ok. things are well here; teaching and stuff although somewhat busy. im looking forward to our next thunderdome; BRING IT! keep it up with the good stuff in your book man.
im still sketching, but just not scanning...more mouths
Mouths! They're hard, so great job on practicing them, doing well too
Yeah, I am still drawing, I'm keeping up a sketchbook (made a new one) but it's not updated so often. Doesn't mean i'm not sketching though, since the only reason I don't update is the scanning process
Woah, 279 pictures the page before, that's sick dude! Your dedication is inspiring and you're getting better constantly. I still dig the environments the most. Recent mouth studies looking dope also, I'd like to see some more studies of the corners, that's where the interesting stuff happens...
asoir - thx dude. id been beginning to notice that most of my drawings had the same facial expressions and stuff, which makes them seem boring. so the mouths stuff is good practice for expressions and shading at the same time, since lips are hard for me to shade. its really interesting, the variety of shapes and sizes peoples features come in, and i like to draw what interests me. yeah, i definitely understand about the scanning stuff; took me awhile to get this stuff up. ill definitely check out your new book, but maybe next time just keep one book going? definitely is a good way to chart your progress all the way through. cheers dude.
faust - yeah, ive been looking forward to page 5 for a while now. but i hate posting just one page at a time. doesnt matter how many pages you have, but how much artwork is there, you know? and page numbers dont mean that im getting better. though, it makes it hard on the computer, especially dial-up users, if i have almost 300 pics on one page...maybe ill post less pictures per post. or maybe i WONT! anyway, keep doing what you do, and ill be doing more of all kinds of studies...thx for stopping by.
took me awhile to scan all this stuff (well, really, to decide to take the time to scan and crop and resize and host), but here it is for your viewing pleasure. mite goran, ne!
got one hand in my pocket...the other one's givin' a wet willie!
finally finished the cards for my student's graduation. yatta!
can't decide which one i like better, so im gonna use both.
barry and levon, where did you get $240?
otsukare samaaa. if you'd have to choose (i know, you dont), i would choose number one personally.
keep it up man
check the Tensai Tokyo Sketch Thread (Sketchbook)

great stuff purb, studies are good as usual, I'm with tensai, i would go with the first one if you had to choose, hows the bike doing?
Hey there, just stopping by and looking how you're doing!
You're pushing the anatomy, man, I like it. Been slacking on those for some time now . Watch out with your hair-studies though. It's more than as many lines brought together. The hair on one's head has a distinct form for itself, with values and colors and such. Try to use less lines to gain a bigger effect and to get a better feeling of the volume.
tensai - otsukare samadeshita. i decided to go with a boys version and a girls version, so im getting them printed up like that. hopefully theyll get here before graduation, which is next week. thx dude; your stuff is lookin mighty fine lately, i might add.
crazyman - thx dude. i think thats the thing i love about this place the most, the amount of artistic growth that you can see in people's sketchbooks. really dont know where i would be with art if i hadnt found the .org. therell always be studies to see, so come back soon. take care dude.
shin - thx man. bike's doin awesome! sooooo glad that i have it, makes the winter so much more tolerable. its actually gettin warm here now, like, last weekend i went on a long ride with my friend. just goregous. maybe ill post some pics of that next time...or maybe this time...thx for the idea.
asoir - thx dude, glad you like. definitely a good decision to keep the same sketchbook, in my opinion. ill stop by soon. hows school going and stuff? take care dude, and come again.
faust - thx man, im doin good. haha, im pushing the anatomy cause its interesting to me, its really all i wanna draw, people that is. too bad theres things like buildings and landscapes and other stuff that im not good at cause it takes time away from drawing peoples. but then i'd never grow as an artist, and...um...id be pretty cold during the winter with no buildings and stuff. maybe theyre good things after all? hair studies, yeah, dude, youre right. didnt put enough variety in the lineweight and value. they were more studies, though, for a more finished piece, and at least for that piece, its more important for me to see the direction that the strands go in cause i will have almost no time with the "model" for reference. but yeah, i do need to watch out for that, cause even in studies i should be getting better; thx for pointing that out.
just wanna thank everybody that takes a look at my stuff for taking a look. i appreciate the replies and the crits, i really do. yall rock.
finally got around to scanning some pages. yay.
non-my artwork stuff
eat them...up an' eat them!
i said eat them...here they are! WHOO!
do you like green eggs and ham?
Keep on rolling! Hair studies got a little better, keep at it!
flakpost - thx for comin by man. glad you like. cant believe 1st page was just over a year ago...feels like im so far from that now. come back soon; see you in your book.
fellah - hey, long time no see! (well, you couldve said the same thing about me too... ) always new stuff for you here man; be sure to stop by. ill leave the light on for you. VROOOOOOM!
(note to self: need to do more anatomy studies)
faust - thx man. better or worse is a lot about time spent. but yeah, definitely need to do more of EVERYTHING-studies. long road; one step at a time. ( => )
so finally, the portraits are
now for framing and giving; graduation in 2 days. (warning: objects in monitor appear lighter than they really are)
moving on to a better place: first grade
A friend of mine has been to japan for 2 months and really loved it. Id like to go to Japan some day aswell. Till then, ill just watch ur fotos ^^
like the mouthstudies
The portraits are ok, but my main crits would be that the eyes are situated to far from each other. Id also like to see more contrast/darker tones on some places like the mouth, eyes and ears.
lewis - thx for stoppin by dude! where in japan did your friend go? you should definitely try to make it out here if you can man...its a different world, i tell you. i fixed up the portraits as best i could in the time that i had; hope you like them better. come back soon.
asoir - thx bro. wow, almost the last year of school...time flies, doesnt it? good luck with it man; make sure you pass. glad you like the recent stuff; im sure glad to be done with it. take care dude.
b-man - welcome back man! how was your time spent, what all did you do on your trip? glad you think im getting better. im trying, thats for sure. its a long haul, but its definitely fun.
woke up at like, 5am to finish these; had to rush to scan and edit them together in photoshop, print them out, and get to school. i was late, but it was ok; graduation went well. sad that i won't be teaching Sara anymore, but itll be ok. good luck in first grade, Sara!
so, here they are, finished! (again) plus a sketch
these days are great. theres work to do. 8)
Would you care to share the joke with the rest of the class? My English teacher always used to say that. Bitch.Originally Posted by purb36

your work ethic is amazing! Keep it up
ok thats all i know haha.
dude, those pictures from the bike trip look awsome, you got anymore pictures of japan like those, good to see the potraits finished, good work, is that graduation over now? if so congrats
That's all I got!
I dig the portraits! They may be lacking the perfect facial anatomy, but they sure have personality and the shading is very smooth. Very well done! I like your hands, do some more ,so I see some more!
s'pudd - hey dude, thx for stopping by. so yeah, if you see every post that ive made, i usually end with some kind of random phrase or quote, or my own revision of either one of those, that has some particular meaning to me, but not necessarily to anyone else. but if you can figure them out, you get a gold moon! its just my thing. so this time, it was a play on the old twizzlers slogan, "twizzlers make mouths happy." i had mouths, but no twizzlers, so i had to work with what i had. so now you know, and knowing is half the battle! hope to see you back here sometime; take care.
tetsuo - KANEDAAAAA! hey dude. no, im not with JET; im with a program called PiA. check out their website HERE. our program is not only in japan, but in about 14 or so different countries in south-east asia. i am however familliar with JET, as there are also two JETs in my town, and my touch rugby team is almost all JETs. don't count yourself out, you may have made it. i hope that you can get to japan at some point; its an amazing place, it really is. glad you like my stuff dude; mata kite ne! (stop by again sometime!)
shin - haha, thx dude. though i didnt really have much to do for graduation myself. yes, the graduation for the kindergartens is over, but i still have the nursery school graduation in about a week, so gotta get through that too, then a little time spent at the office. no kids there... ill check through my pics and see if theres any others to put up. and ill take more as i go riding more. peace dude, ill see you by your place.
pesmerga - hey dude, thx for stoppin by. glad you like the mouths, cause im gonna give yall more lip eventually. ...
faust - personality is key, right? spent a long time on the shading and used pretty light pencils...i like how they turned out too, thx. im gonna be studying the hand, so more hands comin sometime soon dude, definitely...take care.
sketchbook stuff ive been working on
the beat don't stop until the break o' dawn.
