this ones for you!

The Waffle house sketch book.
C: Many, many thanks! As promised, I drank my sake in your name tonight. ^__^
Sok: Yo yo Ryu, thanks for the birthday wishes. Sadly, I'd be drinking alone tonight, since my homies all live 90 miles south of where I do, but I'll pour some on Friday night when the official party happens. MWAH!
I am moved to TEARS. I'm printing this out. AND I'm bringing it into Hasbro the next time I'm in-house. THANK YOU!! You nailed the Pony form really well, better than I can most times. ...wanna work some freelance?
Hope you have a great birthday weekend with lots of sake!!!
As for my Padawan niece, she is displaying her artistic genes already before learning how to talk
Ongoing doodle thread
HAHA! GOD your style is fun!
He who asks is a fool for five minutes,
but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.
Fantastic work, love the Illustrator 'doodles' esp. And fuck it if that style dont swing with the rest of CA, its refreshing to see this kinda work. Shes a cool character, strong and dynamic. I also love her frog type hat, so cool...
The 'Road to Raven' sketchs are awesome too, damn freaky...
You say you dont like doing the vector art stuff, but I would love to see more of it from you...
I like your drawings! The cartoons are entertaining and the more realistic stuff is very interesting. Keep doin' what you're doin'!
Yes. Lovin this stuff
Ooooh dang. I was hoping I could let my sorely neglected sketchbook drop off into obscurity but damn, you caught me.
Caledonian: tis late, but thank you for sharing the love of Insekuto Batteru with the youth of the world ^_^ I hope it corrupts her gently...
kline: thanks so much, glad to make ya smile!
Carni: Thanks man. The chibis are on hold until further notice though, I have some other stuff that takes precedence for the time being.
Molly: I'm so glad to hear that you're pro-vector I'll get back in the swing of it soon, freelance calls for more Illustrator CS goodness *dances*
Quin: AHA! I have you to blame for unearthing this thread after months of hiding! ... prolly the best thing you could have done for me. Thank you so much for the kind words, it stokes my fires of motivation.
Blank: Tchia, I was floored by your work too you know. it's going to be a pleasure to sketch with you in July!
Toki: thanks so much!
Ok. So. All I really have to show are some doodles I did for a freelance client, who wanted style guides for a board game. So I gave him elephants. HUZZAH!
Also, this was seen in the Insect Battle Fanart thread, but I did a quick thumb of Sutefu and Akai-Ruku (see above for the first doodle of him). I kind of unified Akai's look into more of a Rocketeer sort of style. Not sure if it comes off as generic, but I think with these characters, I don't want the basic uniforms to upstage the nifty hats.
I also did a page of quick gestures at Pride RI yesterday, I will scan and upload 'em tomorrow. For real, I haven't done gestures in about... 6 months, so be prepared to see the grotesque underbelly of my stagnant drawing skills... and be brutal with your crits.
ver nice, i especially like the rat with the toothache
those are pretty nice girl i like the kind of stuff that you do. have you gone to any schools for art or anything like that.
Your bird studies are excellent, and the cartoony stuff really sweet. You should update more often.
Ack! An update! Holy crap!
Sems: Thanks much! Sadly, Blueberry never recovered from her toothache, but she was a trooper the whole time.
max: Thank you very, very much. I really love your work, so hearing that means a lot. And yes... I will update more. Honest...!
oasis: Thank you! And yeah, I took a lot of art classes in high school and I had four more years at an art college, so I've had my share of classes and the like. I still have a long way to go though... -__-
Icey: Mwah! Glad you like!
Balooga: Hah, thanks so much! And yes, I will try to update more... my dream is to have a lil "professional" eyeball next to my username at some point.
I actually have some unscanned stuff from the recent Boston Sketch group and some musings, but I have to get a new scanner first. My roomie will kill me if I keep hogging her scanner in the meantime.
So. Thunderdome. Y'all have probably seen my entry, but I would like to share the various sketches and GET SOME FEEDBACK ON MY COLORED ONE! I really would like to polish it up and include it in the old 'folio.
Originally, she looked like this:
Then was cleaned up to this:
And was colored up to be this:
...honestly, I like the first sketch best, because it's more stiff and angry. I can't seem to shake my toony style -___- SO, be cruel in your crits, I am here to learn.
See you guys 'round the forums!

omg WINNAR. Finally.
Way ta go babe, that took long enough.
Unlike you im personally more convinced by the second set of lines, cause the proportions function way better, the limbs are just too long on the first one, the second resembles a child (princess) alot more, also they are nicer to paint under
Oh and did you know. The D and S key are right next to each other, so by default it is remarkably easy to mispell a word with an S in it. Like Song for instance, i think that would be really easy to mispell.
Why Ben, I KNOW you're not talking about the FANTASTIC NEW QUOTE OF YOURS IN MY SIG ...right?Originally Posted by Red_Rook
And thank you for the feedback. While I agree that her proportions read more clearly as a child, I still feel like she lost some of her edge in the translation. Mrrrgh.
I have to give all those mad props you gave to me right back to you for your piece (well, I might hold onto one or two, they smell so nice). You kicked all sorts of ass with that one. It really stands out in the competition, it doesn't look like anyone else's work. I'd love to crit it but I just can't find anything there I'd change. The neck sorta looks like it joins the back of the head a little high, but that's really picking nits. There are elements of the original sketch that looked good, but I think overall the finished lines are stronger. Oh yeah, and I love the sticky, drippy bloody hands.
(On an entirely unrelated note, I was checking out what everyone was listening to on AudioScrobbler the other day, and I noticed you'd been listening to a song called Stephanie Laberis - Insekuto Batteru2. I have to ask what that's about.)
0kelvin: *laughs* Ah yes, you caught me. Back when I was toying with the idea of Insekuto Batteru as a Flash animation, I spliced up a very innocuous anime theme song and added sound bytes of myself and Akai Ruku himself. Since I don't have the copyrights to the original anime song, I can't use it in a profitable way, but it was fun to put together the song and kinda set the mood for the series.
If you want, I can email it to you. It's nothing spectuacular though
Oh yeah, thanks for the crit on the Leucro girl ^__^ My fingers are still crossed for you though!
absolutely love your work, love them bird studies too, very good work !!
I really like your TD piece, at first I liked the caracter just becase
of her expression, all demented and full of sadness (the bloody hands
did the trick as well ) but I was only after I read the back story that
the piece really got my fullest atencion, great art, supported by a great
story is the kinda of thing I enjoy the most, and its the kinda of work
I want to produce for me as well, so congrats on a VERY well done work
5 bones here <><> Steph has got it going on <><> love the line work and especially like the emphatically drawn little critters <><> the birds <><> have me drawing birds in my mind as I type
Ok you did asked for thisOriginally Posted by willow-whisp
I liked your pice a lot as I said above, but I had sum nick picks too:
First I would have liked for her to have a full set of hyena teeth on her
mouth, instead of the herbivore kinda of teeth she has, the colors
could have been made more solid like, right now it looks to watercolor
like and IMO that takes sum of the drama away , what I mean is that
a sharper division of ligths and darks could have improved impact of
the image a bit more; line work is a bit distracting on some areas like
on the theet and on the head and ribcage, dunno but I think that
it would have looked better on a complete solid coloring you know
not lines, using only ligth to model the shapes, right now I fell the
line work makes more noise than help the overall forms, and at last
I think that the heavy texturing on the background kills the deep
of the image, a desert-sabana like eviroment at nigth or something
of sorts could have worked out better and It would have added
to the story telling.
Now as usual take my advise with lots and lots of salt
because, Im just learing as I go and my thinking could be all wrong.
Keep on updating more often too, your SKB its one of my fave ones as well
