that last one = best pic i've seen so far. it's fucking insane!
but why does he have a mic on his right arm?
i think at the time i stuck it on his arm cos i decided everywhere else was
visually quite busy and that arm area needed something large to help give it some weight...
i realised as well he needed a mic because without a jaw your tonuge would either be gone or would flop around "cuban neck-tie " stylee so hed need to comunicate somehow.
in answer to someone elses question on some other thread its in -
he has no feet because i wanted to do something different, hed maintain ballance by having some sort of gyroscope in the waist area -
he was drawn with the idea that the hips and torso would both have their own generator/powersource within the sphericle areas - gyroscope in the groin area - no stomach due to no eating - nutritional needs would have to come from synthesized "top ups" in the form of jacking onto some sort of attatchment........
i wanted this guy to look REALLY badly cut about and brutalised.....
as to anyone not thinking the ballance would work well.........id humorously point out that a giant green tiger that can talk and a blue man with a skull for a face are also not that scientifically sound in principle :-)

ok - phew- it took a while to finish this beast but its done :-)
onto summin else.
again its a 1954 alt-hist one -
germanys menfolk have mostly gone to the front/s and the interior of the country is now largelly protected by old men and women - using guerilla war tactics teams of female snipers called "valyrie units" pick through the boken rooftops and ravaged chimneys of east germanys largelly empty cities.
TATOO's :the kneck one is a processed consription comandeered code
and the arm one is a vatriation on the ss tatoo idea- I.E. you tatoo them so they fight harder to the end - because death is better than falling into enemy hands - being "marked" they have no chance or choice :-(
the gun is based on nothing really - just a simple long bore sniper gun - mechs are just loosley based on the sloped side t-34 and some later stuff - i was gonna do a huge version based on the 5 turret t-35.(cool as nails those things :-)

awesome setting max O_O ... everything works lovely, i'd paint the white mist on a gradient to improve the sense of distance, also some self-projected shadows seem more defined than others
The thing I like best of this pic is the fact you
render all to the fullest of detail and you did
not lossed the freshness of the pic,
some times when I render something to much
my figures get stiff, but yours look very natural
in their stances GREAT redering skills dude!!!
The only thing I dont quite like is the hair, it looks
a bit to geometrical, to solid.
Its more an opinion that
a real critic because the way you
did it fit in your style very well.

Great work mate, awesome detail on these previous ones, the only thing i can really crit is the snipergirl, her anatomy is slightly off (left hand being a tad too long)(sit like that and try to place the elbows where hers are) and the figure could be more forshortened - head is just slightly wider than her foot - should be a bigger difference, being closer as it is. Same thing with the rifle, as i am not looking at it flat, its slightly tilted towards the viewer.
anyways, GREAT mechs. im trying to design a prosthetic leg at the moment for an illu, (should be extremely simple), but keep coming up with the stupidest looking designs

funny thing that olivier - it uses a photo reference studio shot i did with a real rifle and the hand of a real person :-)
however it was never going to have a background - so it got "freehanded" for a lot of the time - the sketches are in sketch thread
yeah - not all the shaodws are correct -
the hair got "left" a bit early - i was in danger of just tinkering with it forever - also there are loads of little bits id change - e.g. the vents on the middle tank are too dark still etc - but hey ho - more picture need drawn :-)
incidentally though olivier - i agree the arm looks a bit long -
but the model was tall and thin - and the angle its drawn from and the baggy combat trousers dosnt help -
i wanted a tall skinny person because it fitted the idea behind the pick -
i think at one point id concidered putting a bandage or oily rag round it to
increase its weight visually - but never got round to it -
the further away arm had to be increased 30% as it is in the pic anyway.
although theyre great - i dont really like doing achilleos or frazetta style fantasy figured ladies etc - the worlds got enough of that - last thing need is me adding to it.
planning somthing more comicy next - ive tired myself out for ww2 stuff this
might do a fat robot next :-)
speant the weekend tinkering with PONGO the inquisitive robot,
tidying my studio then making a mess again and doing this first pass at a poster for a band.....
its mainly oil paint with some digital photo comp stuff for the text and slate grey areas etc - hearts hand painted and then edited in PS .....
i like the band name its - pretty unusual -
hope to get more stuff to do there......quite thought provoking.

if i was going to do a star wars pic i think id do new bounty hunter designs -
i always thought they were a way more intriguing creed than either the imperial or jedi forces - i think that lucas should explore the idea of a bounty hunter being employed by the jedi council - but hes percieved as an enemy by the good guys etc - and then hes in some way instrumental in saving the day when anakin goes mental and turns to the dark side.
but thats just my idea.
wouldnt really tamper with darth vader design and as long as its self initiated,
then id rather redesign things (couldnt do that with darth - sacrilidge)

did this sunday - bout 6 hours -
i was tinkering about with painter - but aint up to speed on it yet :-( -
so i knocked this up in photoshop.
its just painted with a brush and an airbrush set to 16% opacity - pretty loose work - if you blow it up its quite scratchy - more like i used to do stuff years ago - i wanna get back to that a bit.
this was supposed to be a colour tone and style test - i just made a box mock up to test out how it would look - on propper one the character would almost certainly need to be bigger in frame etc....but its fine for this stage . ill do a propper several day version with several alterations from the errors ive found producing this one.
i think i was thinking of "venus wars " when i did this strangelly - but it has a matrix/FPS game sort of theme ?

one thing - i wanted his face exposed - itll be fixed in the next one.
ps - i thought of the name at 2.30am - not sure about it but its not really important.......i thought of "abuse of power" and "extreme predjudice" and really wanted to call it "last man standing" but thats obviously been done so never mind.like the idea of a game with just numbers or code for a title - but youd need a game so good so you could call it anything for a marketing department to go for that id bet.

very nice Max! I would like to see the city faded back a bit - just softer you know to separate from the hero. also I think that you should add another light source from below the viewers perspective so that you could bring our some more detail on the character. The contrast would also bring him forward in space - closer to the viewer.

yeah i realised last nite gazing up at the ceiling in bed that the city was too sharp etc........its one of things i was goning to try and avoid in the follow up (one of the many many things)
you can tell the things on top are wrecked robots anyway so it fails to do its job anyway as is.......
im thinking about turning the character to the left and bringing it forward in frame, - tilting his head down a bit - a nice light source could come in below and illuminate the chin area and undersides of the armour, kit and gun barrel (i could have a hollow bullit riddled burning suit for an orange/red light or a tactically postioned lump of glowing robot for blue/cyan - im going to chunk up the armour too - i was thinking of having a bigger breast plate and combined collar - with lcd stuff inside the kneck area that cast light on the face - also the lines of light on the gun nare WAY too fatand clumsy at this stage.
I like the concrete lumps etc but they need to look wetter and muddier and more smashed up lookin, im reluctant to put the steel strengthening pins in them incase the picture becomes too jumbled,it would probably detract from the wires hanging out the machanised carcass things,
also might try and loosen the brush work up in the next sky for the final,
might pop betwean programmes for that - bring in some conventional oil work too.
I loved doing this test pic - im gonna tear it to peices tonite and start putting it back together - scrap the main guy and his pose and go for rage and more dynamism in him etc.
sort tones and l.o.d. early and not think about details etc.
Ive been too long in the land of platform game CA.
I need to break my style and get back to basics.
planning on working much faster and looser so i cant get tied down in less un-important features -

its going under the general idea of "supreme soviet"and deals with a 1950's/60's invasion of a western country...
and yes it says kiss fish in the pongo-pic because i couldnt work out how to write kissyfish in russian - haha.
the stage by stage stuff such as it is for this is in the sketches forum under max's stuff or summin like that.
theres not any real difference in the process from the other TUT stuff in that thread - its just photoshop with wet-edges low opacity brush work and straight airbrush.
ill start summin new tomorrow morning...speed paint it maybe.
