Spartan Camp #248 - 50 gestures + Optional "Continuous Contour Line Drawing"
The aim is to produce 50 gestures by Sunday the 23nd of December.
- The gestures can be of anything, human, animal, cavorting capybaras.... You can draw full figures, but you can also go for heads, arms, eyes, or anything specific. All media can be used, both digital or traditional. Coloured or black/white. Quick scribbles or long studies. Imagination or referenced. Clothed or nude. Specifics are up to you!
- In addition to this, participants can choose to do an Optional "Continuous Contour Line Drawing", in any medium.
Additional notes on this weeks’ Optional Study:
There's no shortage of "drawing exercises for beginners" on the internet. This week we'll try one out. The continuous contour drawing seems useful and appears to be somewhat of a classic exercise.
Do a study by drawing the contours using a single line. The purpose here is to focus less on construction and perception and more on the actual gesture and the 'feel' of what you are drawing. Using a single line helps you focus on the line quality. To get a better idea of this optional study, check out the links below!
The study subject is not so important, you can do some gestures, a figure drawing or any object.
After a quick search, here are a couple of guides:
Guide1 (a couple paragraphs down)
There are also videos on youtube, most of them of questionable quality though. Also, doing a simple google image search can help.
50 poses is a challenge, but don't hurry or stress yourself reaching it! Focus on drawing, as practising is the main goal of this exercise.
Criticizing each other is highly encouraged!! Share constructive criticism, reference images and resources!! Let's help each other get better!
Come on soldiers! Flex those muscles!!
