Well, I was suprised, but davi asked me to fire up an exclusive sketchbook. I'm still an amateur, but I'm happy to share my trials and errors as I keep learning. I'm gonna be using this as a dumping ground for digital works, tutorials, and possibly a soapbox for my random opinions on art and art theory. Any traditional stuff will go in my regular sketchbook, which will become purely for traditional stuff.
I haven't brought much to get this started, it's been a slow year for me... plagued with constant sickness and sloth. Hoping to turn that around, that SF workshop can't come fast enough. (hopefully I won't be overly sick)
I do alot of random texturing tests and boring things in painter, but one thing I noticed recently was that I have been putting too much value variation in my skin tones.. keeping things way too light in general, with overly dark shadows (huge value changes are great for metal, but definitely not for sensibly lit skintones).... so I've been trying to work on minimalizing the value range as much as possible.
Edit: Forgot to mention, since people sometimes ask about brushes and programs. I only use Painter 9.. because I find it to be the most intuitive, as far as brushes go, I mainly just use the "Thick & Thin pen" which is under the pen category. I think it's great fun to use for metal textures, like in the bottom sketch... just dabbing the tablet with the stylus instead of really "brushing" gives some fun effects when using the thick&thin pen. Try it sometime.
Anyway, more to come.
