## Mech Perspective Attempt

This is a redo of a sketch I did a LONG time ago. I was trying to get the perspective right by only doing it freehand and not using rulers. Those of you that played the mechwarrior games probably recognize this mech. I had a screenshot that I used as reference.

2. If you are trying to get correct perspective, I would say... drop in some perspective lines.
-d

3. It looks pretty good actually. I don't know if it's totally correct though, why not do the lines?

4. You have some crazy forced perspective there. we can see the entirety of the top of the feet, but we are seeing the underside of the jets(?). That is giving us a crazy fisheye effect and will be hard enough with lines... let alone near impossible without.

Just my opinion though. Others may disagree.

5. I dont think the perspective at the feet and the perspective at the top converge to the same VP. I know its hard to judge since the point is way off the paper. I would say in the future be more conservative with the perspective lines (not so dramatic). I did however get a nice depth effect from scrolling down the page and looking at the drawing.

Thanks for the reply's. I will start doing some better perspective work with lines and boxes.

7. Try to draw this with the viewer farther away form the object. Draw out the cube that encompasses the entire object, and use that to guide you. Work big to small.

Thanks for the input. I have a large sketchpad and will try to start with a large cube.

9. Here you go mate!
Make yours like this and it will look much better perspective wise.
It was quicker for me to drag this out of the archive than go on about horizon lines and the perspective of feet versus the torso section etc.

I hope it helps you out, all the best with the work mate.

I am currently using a large sketchpad with the vanishing points on the paper. What is the best way of going about visualizing the perspective points off the edges of the paper? So my drawings look more realistic.

11. Hmmm........... I may have given the impresion that this was a quick file call up from my hard drive But actually I spent quite a while rooting this model out of my archive and doing a render at a similar angle to your sketch, and I would add that it was just for your benefit!

I dont want to appear pushy or anything but what does a guy have to do to get a "thank you" around here. I mean I didnt have to do this you know!!

I am not one to sulk or anything but you folks need to work on your manners a bit!

Well, I just thanked you. Seriously, though, if you're gonna post on this forum you'll need to get used to having 95+% of what you say just go right past its intended recipient.

P.S. Adjust the smoothing angle on that mech! Those faceted polys are making my teeth hurt.

13. Heeey hiya bud!

I just thought it was worth giving the collective mindset a push is all, I aint really all that worried mate. It just seems that like you said 95% of the love we dish out is unrequited!! LOL but it is a shame that we have a thanks button that soooooo often goes unused.

which is also why the polys are at the lowest smooth setting, it was a speed issue!

all the very best to you and yours mate, ta ta for now
