Hello everyone. I have been looking at the CA forums for a while and decided to start a sketchbook. I am a 23 year old graduate student studying molecular biology. I initially became interested in drawing and painting after finding out that I would have to do all the art for an android game that I'm developing. I tried my hand at Illustrator and decided that a graphics tablet would be invaluable for quickly getting the artwork done. I then found deviantart and eventually found my way here. After looking at the sketchbooks and works people are putting out, I decided to apply myself more and learn how to draw and paint. I don't have much time to spare but hopefully I can keep adding pieces to my sketchbook for your enjoyment and critique.
I am starting completely fresh and have no formal knowledge/learning in art. I'll be looking through some tutorials and books to start understanding form, perspective, color, lighting, etc and would love to hear your input on how I can improve individual pieces and my art overall.
I look forward to hearing what you have to say and hopefully developing some relationships with those that enjoy my work or have great things to teach me.
1. ) A peach/orange (who knows) that I tried doing when I first picked up my tablet.
2. A dragonling that I'm trying to make my own. I learned a lot about the dodge, burn, and smudge tools why working on the wings.
3. Just a couple skulls/skeletons I tried pencil sketching with my tablet. I really like having the pressure sensitivity. It feels very natural for me. As I get confident in the lines and curves I'm doing, I automatically am pressing harder.
