Now. I really want to set something straight. I do not intend to start a flame war, but I really want to know people's feelings on this.
If you don't know what base art is, a few examples would be;
It is essentially taking someone's art and painting a skin over it for other people to use and template over.
Example; Someone's use of one of the aforementioned bases.
Call me petty maybe, but I really cannot stand this.
To me, it's extremely disrespectful. Especially when the artist then goes "Credit me when you use it!" as if it's THEIR artwork to be doing this to in the first place.
I would hate for my work, with my ideas and my poses and my time that I put into it to get all of that right, to be used in such a way.
And then they have the attitude to say "Just because I use bases doesn't mean I can't draw!"
Well...if you could, why don't you prove it by actually using the image as a REFERENCE instead of just painting over it?
I don't know, I don't mean to have a rant and rave about it, but it's been bugging me lately and I've been getting concerned seeing people adding my stuff (albeit my art isn't good, but half the time it doesn't need to be for people to 'base' it) to collections labelled as it.
And I was entirely curious as to what a separate art community that seems to actually have a decent and realistic head on their shoulders would think of such a thing?
