Solid work all around.
Solid work all around.
First off, great work!
I'm totally getting a dragonriders of pern off of your gold dragon illustration
love it. My 2 or three cents:
looking through your edits it feels to me that post 12 is the strongest version, the deeper shadows make the sun seem a more believable light source, in the current one it looks like you are working with multiple light sources, one from the sun, one refracted up from the rocks and one from the right of the piece highlighting his wing and back. Intentional? I really liked the drama in the previous one.
The front foreleg also looks a little bulky/lacking definition? in the previous version it looked better/more defined.
incredible detail though, and the overall layout is strong, it has a sort of fisheye lens effect with the clouds bending around which i like!
(hope that was helpful?)
anyways, exited to see where you go with this sb
keep it up!
All is great and it make me want to do some head studies from movies. It is like drawing people from the street except you can pause them... he!he!
Nice start here, I like your drawings, you have a solid skill with figures and heads and keep honing it which really is the most important thing, correct drawings I mean
As for the dragon piece, while I like the color scheme it feels somewhat unbalanced right now, can't exactly point out what, maybe more bounce from the ocean on the rocks/dragons neck?
paulboutros: Thanks! I'm planning to do some more studies...
xyphid: Thanks, I think the lighting is the one thing that's messed up in the version of the dragon. maybe I should lighten up the cloud a bit too, they look a little too heavy right now. Thanks for the crit!
The worst weekend ever. My life is destroyed, but what can I do? One thing anyone can't stop me from doing is painting...
10 min sketch study from Marcus J. Ranum reference photo.
It's always good to find comfort in doing something you enjoy.
I really liked post #30, great job.
Very calm and soothing enviro studies. Lovely.
CarbonBased: thanks! yeah I'm lucky that I have plenty of time painting now to relax myself.
I am staying at my parents' home for a while. Good thing about it is I got plenty time to practice painting and drawing. The down side of this is that I don't have decent tool. Photoshop I could brought was CS2, and my tablet is not functioning...basically no fancy tool preset nor pressure sensitivity. Also my laptop has only 1GB RAM...not good enough for making high res painting at all.
BUT, I can do color studies. It will be good to paint without good brush nor pressure sensitivity, because it will force me to focus on color placement.
Today we drove to see my sister and her family, and while my dad was driving I tried to sketch him. I did for a while and start getting car sick so I had to quit.
hm. his ear looks gigantic...he does have big ears though.
and I also did color study from the usual ref from Marcus J. Ranum
once someone asked in this thread about my personal style. well, here are the stuff that's been always within me. explosive fragments and lines are the common elements in my personal doodles. I enjoy drawing effect lines, and for that reason I've been always interested in doing effects for video games. I love particle systems, not only the look of the result, but also the mathematical process excites me.
...and this morning's color study.
I love your paintings! Keep up the good work !
Great updates. Absolutely would love to see more sketches and pencil work from you.
Try not to let anything discourage you and get in your way! : )
woah...you guys made my day much better!
zou: thanks! I wasn't sure if I'm improving or just getting used to it...
Peipei: thanks! I'm trying, and will keep trying
CarbonBased: thanks as always! yeah discouragement is the biggest enemy in self studying...
tonight's progress. few figure drawings and color study.
Your color studies are one point, cant stop staring at the one of your neighborhood
QPK: thanks! in my neighborhood, there are many JUICY looking grandmas and grandpas, and I'm dying to paint them...I mean, not sexy looking or anything, but really amazing subject to paint. tiny asian elders with nice earthtoned color clothing with great posture. they are just so beautiful. one day I will sneak in and take a snap shot of them.
this morning's study. local department store food section, half the floor is dedicated for sashimi and other seafood goods. LOVE THEM. why don't we eat more fish in USA?! (sorry my dear vegan friends...no offense, but I just can't give up seafood!)
I will probably die from mercury poisoning one day.
nice work! i really like your choice of photos to study!
and these are my faves so far
