Hey everyone, I've been lurking the forums for awhile now without posting and I've finally decided to start posting here. I'm Chris, I'm a twenty year old artist, and I'm trying to get better at what I do. I'm just coming back from a bit of an artistic hiatus. My back was giving me a lot of trouble and I needed to reassess what I wanted to accomplish in my drawings.
Anyway, before I took a break I was studying faces and dabbling in conte crayon:
Annie Clark of Saint Vincent, black conte on sketch paper.
Squall Leonhart of FF8, sanguine conte crayon on sketch paper.
Some noses, sanguine conte crayon on sketch paper.
Some eyes, sanguine conte crayon on sketch paper.
Rick Deckard from Blade Runner, sanguine conte crayon on sketch paper.
I'm open to critiques, so let me have it. Sorry the subject matter is a little narrow, I intend to start studying the figure in depth in the next few months, so hopefully that will make things more interesting.
Basically, I'm looking to start doing some digital work, but I'm not sure where to start. I have photoshop and have done a few pieces with it, but they're pretty basic in their execution. I want to get a more painterly effect, but I'm not sure where to learn that. Could anyone link me to some tutorials that might help me out with that?
Also, do you guys have any tips on how I could develop speed? I've always felt like I'm pretty slow at drawing. I'd like my work to be a little more quick and expressive, but I feel like I'll mess things up if I do, haha. I'm also looking for tips on how to make my drawing time more productive. I feel really distracted when I draw, and I'd like to come up with a loose schedule of sorts to make sure that I'm making the best of it.
Looking forward to posting!
