Trying my hand at refining drawings more.
Trying my hand at refining drawings more.
Think I need to look more at the inner workings of a person rather than just the outside.
This is a work in progress
Would appreciate feedback on wherre I might have gone wrong/where I could improve the lighting for this.
Feel glad to have done this
Some more digital stuff, Digital is a lot easier to shade in haha
Stuff done over the last month
Finally got this one done. Immediately I want to do another so I hope that works out!
This turned out very well I think. Better than before at least.
Studying faces. One of them is from my "Day of the Rikers" session, and is the best likeness I managed out of them all. I would love any suggestions on where I went the most wrong and what I should focus on in the future.
Today's experiments involved organic armor. I'm not done with this idea just yet.
Today I worked on a sustained piece of concept art, no experiment just the best I can do. Let's see if I cant top it tomorrow eh?
Rough landscape concepts
I thought i'd try my hand at making a "portrait" with a character to it, or some kind of made up backstory.
The second is at the recommendation that I not be such a prude on the horrific disfigurement

Hello! Well it's been a while since I posted last. The new forums look and operate great! I've done a couple things, but have been pretty busy with school.
Here's a sampler of my various studies and experiments
Some stuff I did today and yesterday
UPDATE UP IN YO GRILL
Im really happy with these, even if they did take forever to do.
Happy Hallowbutts Season. Today I did something spookyish
You need to do some anatomy studies, I can see that you have almost no idea how the human body is constructed. Moar loomis n Bridgman!!!Remember memory studies!
Thanks, Im currently doing a 50 torso study thing referencing George Bridgman/ Michael Hampton. I don't know if it's just a learning curve thing but I have a lot of trouble applying what I get from Loomis. Like it all makes sense when I see how he lays it all out but I don't retain much of it. I defiantly agree that it's a weak point of mine.
Around 15 down. Feel a slight help but a long way from getting it down. I feel like a lot of times I'm making the abdomen too long? I think?
I know what you mean, I think it's a problem area everyone has no matter what skill level. I think the best way to retain it would be to slow down really think about what he is doing, and the most important part, do it over, and over, and over. I know that sounds pointless but it really isn't as long as you are understanding what their were thinking and doing. While ago I REALLY REALLY sucked at legs, so I drew hundreds of them, and when I came out on the other side by legs looked some where normal, now I just REALLY suck at legs, see how that works? Now I have to learn how to combine the upper body and the lower body so that they look like they are a whole. Because at the moment my upper body is decent and my lower body so/so but combining them for me is a real challenge, and it's just something I gotta study and remember what stuff looks like.
Just remember it's not about the amount you do, it's the quality that you do. If you do 50 fast torsos and learn NOTHING then it's a waste of time. On the other hand if you did 5 but really really got to understand what was happening and how the muscles looked and worked, then those 5 out weight anything those fast 50 could have done. Don't forget the do 1-3 memory studies of each torso. Each time redrawing that torso and coming back for another memory until you remember it! Remember Quality > Quantity.
It's been a while. Recently I've tried understanding construction of the face more. I've also just been doing random exercises.
Big update, jones, your values are improving and I see you've applied your facial planes to your warrior, but whip out more value studies of interesting faces
And shoot me some potatoes 8D
I've decided my understanding of the figure is seriously nill and needs work. I think the best place to start is to learn to do proper gestures. I tried making a few with no time limits, then I did a a rotation of a single pose using 1 minute gestures.
Just stuff ive already done for the 1hdc
