Okay here are some of my animations from class. What can I do to fix this stuff?
What software are you using for these?
In the first one the movements don't quite seem believable. I know it's not realism you're going for but you are trying to give a sense of gravity but I don't quite feel it's there. Also it looks like you're just relying on basic transformations and translations for your animation. There's that little bit where the L beckons for the P to follow but because it's the only time any of the letters really change shape it looks really out of place and clumsy. I would suggest deciding on one method of animating the letters, either stick with just translates and squashes/stretches or try and have some nice changes in form. If you want to go for both I think you need to find the right balance.
As for the second one I think you've been too literal with the movements, it's pretty funny to watch but a bit mental. The "runfree" movement is pretty cool.
Thanks Smashed, I agree totally! I used Adobe flash for the first one (big mistake) and After Effects for the second. Using Flash wasn't difficult per se, it just doesn't have nearly the power behind it that AE does. I had to modify the position of the L's "finger" by hand so I think that's what made it so choppy. That's a set back of in-class assignments: the short timeframe! Maybe I'll go back and tweak it a bit more...Thanks again for the crit.
What class *is* this? Motion Graphics? Kinetic Typography is completely out of my area, but I do find it interesting.
This one has a political message that I am neither agreeing with, or disagreeing with. I'm including this because of the kinetic typography presented.
