Interesting stuff so far mates!!! i will try to design something for this one.At least for training this is a great challenge.
Sketchy sketchy mess from me so far.
tbaldree: cool clothing design so far! The wind up key is a cool idea
do9: I like this so far- can't wait to see more
SaintLConcept: wow very cool! I like this take on it- the creepy robot hiding underneath the mask
JanJager: looking awesome so far- of course
Kafka Dreams: I like the flow of the skirt- but it took me a second to figure out what her body was doing behind it
jinjorz: I like the lighting idea!
Rachel Pierce: wow love the way you're working on the robotic features! Can't wait to see how you do the contortionist dancing as well- I'm excited to see this one!
Mistermike: I never would of thought of tying Jack the Ripper in, that's pretty cool
kingkostas: ooooh I'm loving this so far- the scientist looming behind her, and I love her pose as well!
Mr.Gadbury: no surprise- looking awesome already
sounds really cool I'm in ! :p
JanJager – Really great start, perfect doll like expression and I think you could make a very emotional connection between the two of them with how the scene is set. Fantastic.
Partisan – For what its worth the brief does say either male or female, I am wondering how far this topic is from Frankenstein or Pinocchio?
Mr Gadbury – How did you manage to nail already… its only Monday damn it! Reminded me of an episode of doctor who called the girl in the fireplace, here’s a youtube link;
Okay, diving in, been spinning my wheels the last couple of CHOWS and by the time I've settled on a direction I want to take the pic the week is over.
I'm trying to settle on which direction I want to take this one also though (but I've got it narrowed down to 2 so...that's an improvement I suppose.
I'm thinking either number 3, abandoned in an old workshop after serving her mad scientist master for years until he finally died.
Or one of the other ones where she's in her prime being watched by her master as she dutifully dances for the guests.
tbaldree - Heh cool start, very dreamworks in it's style.
do9 - I like the ring, finished piece should be interesting.
SaintLConcept - Very cool, one of my doodles had the same idea, with a removable/retractable face, I like where you're going with it.
JanJager - Wow really like it. Though I'm not getting much of a steampunk vibe, though I'll reserve judgement till I see the final.
Kafka Dreams - Interesting take, flamenco dancer?
jinjorz - Good start, like JanJager's not seeing a huge steampunk influence though.
Rachel Pierce - Nice take, I loved your dreamweaver so I'm looking forward to seeing where you take this one.
kingkostas - Love it so far, the composition really grabs me and you make it look so easy (and being one of the things I struggle at I know it's not).
Mr. Gadbury - Always one of my favourites and I'm glad someone else mentioned both the things I was thinking (Bioshock and Dr Who?...win sir, win).
Dreoilin - Nice layout and I'm really looking forward to the final for this one. Is that steam in the bottom left/right corners?
Don't have any more time to comment, back to the drawing board. Crits/comments welcome (though mine is a little early, even so). GL all.

criticism and comments will really help . what can i improve ?? Does the character pose look stiff like an inanimate doll ?
edit-looks a little saturated maybe though

In the process of making friends with photoshop so meh at the quality of this, but I'll give it a go.
JanJagerIt's an interesting idea, she reminds me of a southern belle barbie doll. It's an almost iconic image.
jinjorzThe pose is nice to look at but I'd be wary of making her too central, perhaps move her off to one side and have the inventor in the backround?
RaeYou know what I think about your work ;p
kingkostasI really like how his hands seem to just be fading in from under his shadowy cloak. Wooo.
Mr. Gadbury...g'damn. Although from the guy's pose I can't tell if he's presenting her to the other people or just dancing with her.
DreoilinThe idea is very good but it's looking very busy up one end although the smoke helps even it out a little.
Uh, in terms of what I'm doing I'm not really keen on steampunk but the idea of her being this object just built to be lovely and for people fall in love with her made me think she might be rather cold.
Still not too into it yet. Developing one idea at a time to see what i like.
Decided to get an earlier start this time. I think I need to make it more steam punky.
Wow this topic was weird to see! My thesis animation was actually a "clockpunk" ballerina, I remember my concept teacher pointing me to the old movie version of Coppelia to get reference for doll ballerina dancing.
It'll be interesting to see everyone's takes on it but I really need to stop drawing steampunk stuff so I'm just going to sit back and watch. Absolutely LOVE yours Mr. Gadbury, just beautiful.
neat topic, though I do have to admit it's not exactly my cup of tea...to be honest I'm not really a fan of Steampunk, although with that said I have seen some pretty epic art work based on steampunk so it will still be pretty interesting to see where people take this...Rachel Pierce and Mr Gadbury have the best one's so far!
@kingkostas, Nice! she looked really cute too
@mr.gadbury, i love your take on the luxurious take, didn't quite think of that. really good
@janjager, my favourite!, you definitely hit the dool face, maybe just add a little more steampunk feel on her body, more exposed parts
@dreoilin, ahhh..the classic comp ...cant go wrong with that
@rachel pierce, looks interesting, need to see more
@ssandulak, yes its too early for crits lol, but i like pose #2 and#4 dont know whats going on with #5
@vibhas, nice design , i like the costume
@emerging, come on!!! show me your wicked idea on this one
here is update on mine, just some color test
Howdy people. I could use some clarification here. I know, SOMEONE always doesn't seem to get the memo each week lol. Mr Gadbury's image is terrific, but how could anyone fall in love with that thing? Its clearly a robot and not a woman...so I'm confused?
How do we do lots of brass and steam yet...it looks entirely like a real woman or...it doesn't?
Yay! This seems like an exciting one! I hope to actually get time to finish this one!
I see that a few folks were posting that they were getting stumped with Steam Punk elements, and I've been looking around for a lot of things to inspire my own ideas, so I figure I would share them.
Here's some more random sites that do a lot of steam-punk type things:
http://www.clockworkcouture.com/ < steam punk inspired stuff. Lots of goodies for inspiration.
http://www.oneiroievents.com/thesteampunkworldsfair/ A nugget I found surfing the internet.
http://thesteampunkhome.blogspot.com/ <- This one is more about decor than clothes, but still very helpful in setting the scene.
Great job to those already doodling out their masterpieces. I'll put something more constructive later if I can.

may reposition the pretzel arms.
my book o' doodles
Interested in some Team CHOW? i'm all for it :3
Mr. Gadbury, this is so incredibly nice!
vibhas_virwani, she looks veeeeeeery cool, but why is there a sword on her head?
Now crit the shit out of me!
So here's my shot at the steam punk doll. I'm thinking the fog from her handheld gadget is the means of her life-stealing-ness.
Its been hard to mix the gadgetry elements with the science and occultic/mystic flavor in, but I hope I'm starting to get there...
Since it mentioned that she is often mistaken for a real human, I figure either her clothes cover up the robot bits, or that she's doing it to blend in. Besides, sometimes there's more allure in anticipation and imagination than in just strutting around naked. I think steam punk sort of denotes a gaudy amount of excess and over-accessorizing, jewelry, fabrics and frills alongside the hard, dingy leather and brass.
