thank you kevin_!
sometimes i regret that traditional stuff dominates digital, but someday all will be balanced
couldn't resist to share this with you
it's fu*king perfect and gives me amazing kick
thank you for comment in my fb takashmen, your traditional is good, are you focusing on landscape?
here's another one
want to share one thing I've just finished and also some consideration
Lot of you guys make master copies, I'd say thats crucial for faster development of skills, but have you ever thought how you benefit them... I experienced one very important thing, that even if i made a study after a day or two I simply don't remember what I did not talking about recreating this piece.
so here it is, as subscribed from left original, from referenced(no color picking and proportions overlaying) and from imagination. As visible the last one looks like 10 year child painting
and my goal is to create a copy from imagination nearly 100% MATCHING TO THE ORIGINAL
all credits for what i started goes to this guy and his post
*EDIT back to enviro (rocks rendering)
your environment is pretty good
for the last master studies and imagination, the anatomy is off, try slowing it down
you've progressed a great deal in this sketchbook, really loving your pen drawings and landscapes.
you may want to do some value studies to help you give more of a focal point to your paintings. right now your values are rather even across most of the image in the majority of your paintings. the two most recent ones are getting stronger in this regard but i feel you can push the contrast even further in focal areas. maybe try experimenting with some soft/hard brush contrasting edges as well to pull out focal points.
anyway you're on the right track, keep on grinding!
Interesting choice of colours ... n ur traditional work is comin out good ..

@invinciblewombat will do for sure
quick study to get back into B&W
i'm planning to put more attention into value, for this reason i'm gonna start with movie "Seven Samurai" and continue till i get better
making this study i had problems with finding accurate brush, and finally found sth a bit familiar
as always had issues with getting the head proportions right
Went through your sketchbook - definetely you're on the right track. I was going to advise you to use larger and more opaque brushes in your digis, but with some recent works I see, that you're already practicing it. However I feel, that at the beggining you start to wonder around for details, not really nailing the base composition and values.
If you don't mind, I've made quick overpaint. I hope it's pretty much selfexplanatory.
I know, that sometimes overpaint by others might make you feel angry, or they might be wrong (I may have interpretered you light intention here wrongly), because I know I did feel that way, so just take no offense in that.
So what I did here, is I brought high contrast on the beast area, because he stands against the light source, and made a low key contrast around king. I did so by making b-w gradients (gradient tool, 10-20%, some standart gradient, as well as radial and reflected options for shafts of light). The layers with b-w strokes were set in overlay mode btw. Please keep in mind, that I did so harshly and quickly, just to show idea.
To see it fullsize rightclick it and open image in a new tab.
So the overall idea - use desaturation layer to check values, because personally I think they're one of the most important things, that make good illustration.
Keep at it man!
time for little update
