Here's what I have so far. Zoomed out it's hard to tell that the hag has a nose and is supposed to still be vaguely humanoid. Also, the weaver just looks like some lady in an oily dress.
I like the image, but I feel like it fails the brief completely. It's been fun to do at least.
A few crits -- from latest to older in order not to miss the last updates of the WIPs.
I can't make it to the beginning of the thread though, too many great things going on!
maria riaz - A very peaceful atmosphere. And real weaving ^^
bluecat - I like the clothes design, stance and lighting.
Dranyer - Wow! The Weaver looks a bit stern though.
Dreoilin - Nice gesture, and I like that you conserved the line art -- but your turning it white on the threads clashes a bit with the overall style.
Gorgoleon - Very original look and style -- somewhat scary though :]
Rachel Pierce - Magic!
tempest-haze - A very mysterious atmosphere. Watch out the lighting on the cheeks, they look flat.
Mistermike - Maybe you could have the left hand do some gesture for some more drama?
rgeorge - Looks intriguing! Waiting for the next steps.
theUNKNOWNsketcher - That's Shakespearian!
Void24 - That breaking the fourth wall is awesome. Cute design too.
Axazel - Great creature mix, and very nice expression. About the headband: maybe plait it with the hair or tie it to a chignon?
Artfix - Beautiful!
I'm very late to start thinking about the concept. I'm thinking having the weaver wrap the night world into her infinitely long cloth
but it wasn't clear in my mind when I started that WIP. I'll probably start again from scratch.

henchman that's so damn beautiful!!!
Everyone's lookin good!
bellophage: Very intriguing atmosphere
bluecat: Wow I love your character design!
Dreoilin: Liking your choice of colours
Dranyer: Interesting characters, especially the Hag.
Here's where I'm at with mine.
Like what you did with the cloth! It really works well!
This'll be my last update before the final. I'm almost done noodling the pose, I heightened the canvas to make room for more depth and for the figure's mystical-ness whatever that may be. Any second opinions as to what that might be? I'm kinda tempted to just rely on the fact that since it's in the Dreamweaver thread, it'll be obvious that that's the attempt--or is that just lazy concept design?
I'll try to be more critique conscious for those that want it, I came into this challenge late. When I finish, this'll be my first completed CHOW, I've been lurkin' since '09 so it's been a long time coming :u) Hope to see y'all next week in the trenches!
Ahh. Fell asleep yesterday...here's yesterday's update
Getting near the tail end of working eleven days straight so I'm out. Good luck all. Some nice works in here.
Ruri: From a purely conceptual standpoint, yours is a frontrunner for me. Plus it looks great. You got the weave so well established and worked into the design.
Angelsway257: Really loving yours, too.
Bellophage: Lovely painting skills. Looking forward to seeing the concept developed a bit more.
Henchman: So awesome. I love this one. Looking forward to seeing it in color!
Leo Ki: Them's some beautiful sketches, and the figure sits perfectly in the picture plane.
I haven't gotten much further on mine, and I'm not sure I'll make the deadline -- big family weekend, this. I think I've got it laid out & settled into place, but now I need to pull it all together and refine it. C&C welcome!
Can't get this to look like I want... but I'm about out of patience soon. I'm saving the hands and feet for last, still haven't learned to draw 'em properly.
Wow, so many characterdesigns here! Great!
Tomas.ap: I like the expression of your charater very much! But keep an eye on the perspective of the rock. Everything looks a bit like it is going to slip down
Smolin:aaw, she's cute! I have no critique about her design. But maybe, your picture would have more depth, if you wouldn't paint the bedthings from the front. A bit more perspective would be cool
Angelsway257: she's looks nice! I like her a lot, especially the antlers and the paintings in her face. I hope you finish her!
bellophage: I like the colours you used for her face! There's really something mystical going on there. But it doesn't work so well with the rest of the body. Maybe you can make her trousers a bit darker, to get even a better focus point on the face. And I miss some details that point out what she's doing there
LA-Fairy: I think you could work a bit more on the contrast. Some even brighter higlights on her skin and some more dark shadows. Or play a bit more around with the backgroundcolours. I'm sure you can do something =) I like it how the fabric is floating
Paolo23: That's really something different compared to the others. Even if I miss something that shows that she's the dreamweaver. Standing around doesn't help the story behind the character. But it interesting to do her in such a suit.
ruri: oh my, how cute is that? I love her!
no87: Take care of her head, it looks very big to me. But nice work with the blue details
Henchman 21 man, that picture is going to be big! I hope you finish it in time! I like the old hag most of the 3 characters
Leo Ki:looks nice so far. I like the colours and the moon. Seems like it is going to be a nice scene!
Dcritally: having fun is a good thing too Maybe you can try to mix a bit of the blue into her skintone to make it fit better into the scene
maria riaz: Looks kind of oriental, but that's cool! And yeah, someone who is not going to do a beautiful woman! That's good too
bluecat: cool work with the perspective and composition. I like the face of your dreamweaver and I'm looking forward for the finished piece
Dranyer: that's just awesome! I love the sandman!
Dreoilin: cool work with the structures! I like your colourchoice
Gorgoleon: Good thoughts about the job of your dreamweaver. Maybe you can show how he/she (?) is catching the spiders
Rachel Pierce: the colours are getting cool! Maybe you can make a better colourvariation on the details, because the tend to look flat. Let the shiny things more reflect the surrounding colours
This thing is giving me a hard time... Well, I should not wonder about that. I just have no plan what I'm doing. There's still much work left
I think this is it ...
Man there are so many nice entries here!!
unknownsketcher: I really like the dynamics in your painting!! awsome.
Update dont think I can finish this one so many problems I have and it dindt turn out how I got it in my head. Think its also to blueish but dont know what colors to trow in. Also tried to trow in some more design but find out that I'm very bad at it What I do like is that I think I accomplish to give it a dreaming look.
So what I learned for now is that I really need to practice with colors and practice at design. for the last one no idea how to do that. Maybe just overall practice to feel more comfortable when I draw.
hey thanx for the crits guys....gr entries here.....i think i wont b able to tweak it any further...so here is my lil dreamweaver...goodluck
I haven't had a chance to show any WIPs yet, and its almost finished now.
Everyone always uses digital on here, and i've never got the hang of it, so i'm sticking to Oil Paints
and sorry about the quality. the camera on my phone is naff. the colour here is really washed out and the white seems to stand off the paper too much :/ but i'm picking up my SLR from home for the final.
I was going to go for a weaving together of the strands and there being dream images emerging from the woven suface, but it didn't really work. It would have just spoilt the feel of the character.
I figure that as a universal power, the dream weaver isn't really a person, so rather than having a costume, she herself is woven from strands of cosmic energy.
Crits welcome. in fact, necessary.
getting pretty close to finishing now i think. I decided to to add the Hag and the Dreamweaver's lover into the image. The hag attempts to stop the er... sandwomen!? from warning the Dreamweaver of her presence
X( its crunch time...last update before i hopefully have a final product! Everyone's work looks so awesome here, and I cant wait to see everything finished :3.
Thanks for the helpful crits! Hopefully I'll be at home when the Finals goes up.
Ugg I gotta run- think this is finished (I've been staring at it so long it's hard to tell...)
I must be doing something wrong- I have to make it so small and low res to be able to load it onto the attachment manager
Finals thread now up! Apologies for lateness. (For anyone who might be interested in the lives mod lead away from the forum: I got an offer for a new job position yesterday and had a mad rush to get my portfolio up to scratch. If I get it, it will mean I will actually have MORE time for CHoW YAY! so it kind of effects you guys as well!)
theUNKNOWNsketcher - nice composition and sweet illustration. However i do not feel it fits in the idea of CHOW. The character is quite dull and has little to no design in it. This is more of a design competition than illustration imo
Time is ticking down, best of luck guys.
