Check out my SKETCHBOOK!
Heya, nice update since my last visit here
A lot of good stuff around, as always your sketchbook is very interesting to watch.
You dealing nicely with machinery, and perspective. These ship from references looks really nice.
Also i really like that you making these studies from photos homeless peoples, etc. I am pretty sure its a good way to go.
Mech from post 420,421 (hope its not a touchy topic i know many visitors here pointed these piece already) shows that in my opinion you should focus more on the values.
When i am watching gif of your process everything looks completely fine until final rendering. The problem is that values on the front of the vehicle looks same as these one on the back of it.
What make it slightly to flat.
You could make the colors on back of your vehicle colder, or less saturated for example. Shadows more brown(warm) in front, and more blue(cold) in the back.
Also outline don't need to be completely black in the final piece. I would recommend to explore outline a bit more.
Hope it helps
thank you Tsabu. That is a useful bit of advice and instantly makes sense. I am grateful for every bit of sound advice. Cooler and warmer colours makes sense. Thanks again
I am actually happy with my vehicles atm. That only took a couple of year. Here´s a Heavy Fire Tank. For Estinguishing ...... big fires, i guess
First, thanks for your feedback on my sketchbook, very constructive and honest which I appreciate. I really dig your vehicle designs as well, very unique; Reminds me of a cross between a robot and a tank, nicely done. In regards on what you can improve, I think you can benefit from using a more well balanced mid-tone for your images as the contrast is a bit too high in some of your work. Keep up the hard work, looking forward to seeing you progress further.
Heavy Engine Heavy Tank is looking serious, I like it like it like it.
This brings me back to the times when I played Dune and Red Alert,
such kind of big vehicles all around. Can you imagine this thing in real
life and the horror that it would provide? I suppose that a war machine
of this caliber could destroy a smaller village in a very short amount of time.
However, his effectiveness and maximum potential would be manifested on
straight grounds mainly. I am going boring with this one, but I would still
like to see some value ranges on your paintings. Just like on the Ship
in the Harbor, sorry for repeating. Don’t make just almost total black
boxes, and then highlight it’s edges with white. For suggestion try
to take some remote controller or mobile phone as a reference
and try to render it out the best you can in greyscale. I know it’s a
boring subject, but will help you understand more light and shapes.
You have great ideas and concepts and I love your work.
With more training and honing your technical skills,
you will make your amazing work to look even better.
Be good and paint when you can, I will be coming to
visit for sure.
Thank you folks for your kind replies and advice. I will keep them in mind and work on them.
cgaddict: I am happy that you percieved the critique in the spirit that I was meant. Thank you for returning the compliment. I will have a look at my values and contrast.
I just happen to like high contrast very much and therefore use it to my advantage, using it to approach other areas bit by bit. But I will take your advice and try to heed it.
Kevin: Thanks mate. I am still hanging in there. If I look back I find a lot of my old stuff rather cringe worthy. But then I am happy when I compare it to my newer stuff. Thanks for stopping by.
Lt.Plissken: Dude, I obviously made a mistake with the design as it does not read clearly enough. Its not meant as a weapon, its meant to be a giant fire extinguisher. the Canons shoot supracooled Water Solutions
and Foam and other Fire fighting stuff to save civillians. I guess I need to work on that if I do a real illustration out of it add some decals that make it clear that it is a Fire Fighter.
Advice on working on the value range is duely noted. I will do my best to incorporate more midtones. Thanks for the tip with the still life rendering. I might just do that.
Okay peeps. I had to scratch my spaceship itch. I am happy with it as I think it has a cool concept. The only thing I am not so happy with that it looks stationary. And I wanted to convey speed.
As I´ve been recentyl scolded for using speedlines I refrained from them here, even though I think that stars can become speed lines at greater speed with a moving camera. Any advice on this one please?
nice works - totally dig the evil organic battleship. Nice concept. But I think it is hard to tell in which direction it is flying. Or if this ship is firing and flying at the same time. Let me tell you
that your design is working in both directions. Besides of that, GREAT work.
Love this part - it`s like a face and I`m pretty sure you could use something like this for some creatures :-)
And thanks for your advice - always helpful.
Spaceship is awesome, I think that you have a motion blur effect in
Photoshop, so you put that on the background layer and maybe a bit
on the spaceship and it should look like it's moving.
i'm digging the tank you did, kind of old and futuristic at same time, hope to see it finished
for the spaceship, i did a paintover (ifu don't mind of course)
imho, a more dynamic composition would convey speed, (speed lines too )
the center vertical line of light is really stopping viewer's eye, i just changed it more horizontal but you could do better
you could also make the comet like trails better of course
Really liking your boney/carapace ship. It's always fun to dig through sketch threads like this one and see the steady progression. Gives me hope!
thank ya´all folks for the kind replies. I will actually work over the spaceship. Now that Klaustrophil pointed out the face I cant get me brain to unsee it again and its driving me bonkers. I already painted it over. I ´ll post it in a bit.
In the meantime heres a bit of a treat out of the archives, I revisited one of me old bodypaintings as I was asked to participate in another fine art bodypainting book.
So here´s my initial and final concept and a few pics of the finished bodypainting.
thanks Blackspot, good to know some ppl here approve.
hers a fiddle bit from today, roughly connected to the last spaceship
Nor sure how she'll put that on let alone go a pee. I like the lower half more. The shoulders are a bit lop sided and her boobs are ginormous.
hey, no screwing juvenile fun fantasies with reality. The shoulder armor is purposely asynchrone, the whole armor consists of bioengineered carapce craps that
can arrange themselves at will of the wearer and she´s a space succubus so she can adjust her breast size according to her prey.
and while we´re at it, the whole pose is probably neither comfortable nor well balanced and the helmet is magically attached to her hand.
here´s a concept I did for my entry this year at the World Bodypainting Festival. The theme was "inner fears" and I was all set not to take part
and then had a last minute brain wave so to speak. Well it was two weeks before but I still needed to produce those monsters so it kinda was last minute.
Sometimes it’s much better to use secret passage ways than
the regular ordinary routines. Just like Connery and Christian
did in the name of the Rose. Set things on fire from time to time.
If you remember, Tina Turner stated herself in some eighties magazine
that she used to gargle her throat with fresh rose leave tea, or with mayonnaise.
She performed and singed much better that way. On the other hand, it doesn’t even
worth to go too confident with the steering wheel, bad things can happen, you
know just like Nick Nolte blew a vital part of his own nose off with a colt,
when making the movie, another 48 hours. The secret key is to find the golden middle,
the wooden ground. Avoid quicksand for all the price. You are doing it good,
I like how you managed to create the space succubus and her adjustable shoulder
and breast armor. I can imagine the moment when her breast size is growing
in that sweaty armor. In space. And the body paintings again, that female
painted, is just so adorable. I am blown away, I feel very mighty and happy,
you need to update more and more now. Till our next meeting be good
and stay inspired.
somehow since I made myself a new user and finally have my mail program working right I dont get any more notifications from conceptart. Which is infuriating. Just when I was comfy spending a lil time every now and then here again. Especially when the nice little mail wizzard tells me when one of my peeps uploaded something again. So far I had not luck restoring the notifications. Anybody got any tips?
Okay here is a little something about the concept for the blacklight bodypaint award. We made third place.
lets see if this works

It’s not about your new user or mail account, it’s about conceptart.org.
To make you feel better, I ain’t receiving any notifications either, I
think it’s now more than a month or so. You have to hunt down each
thread manually to find out who updated or who didn’t. Sad but true.
But I believe that they will fix this issue pretty soon. The body paint
performance, video/pictures are way too awesome. I like the show,
I like the paintings and the bodies. Especially that hot female body.
Third place is outstanding, I feel mighty for seeing this, thank you
for sharing. Be brave and keep going strong.
Thanks fr dropping in. Teapo: Yeah the 3rd was good but I do have two fourth, two third and two second places so far. I´d sure like to finally get first.
Here´s a WIP of a paintover. The original bodypaint was very rushed and when I revisted it on the search for updates and somehow ended up doing a paint over.
and here is the final product. I am quiet happy I must say
this one is actually one where I would be tempted to post it in the Finally finished Section.
its a woman. Those are lips. Well. Suposed to be. Thanks, i like the glow too
