I like your city scape in pencil, there are so many lovely textures in the drawing. Try to add more textures to your last digital landscape!
Thanks for visiting my sketchbook!
I really like the planar hand studies on the last page. I really got a sense of form while looking at them. Basics... ah... don't let the basics get you down. PUNCH THEM IN THE FACE.
Your perspective studies are beautiful too. They look like they come naturally and I'm really jealous of that (I was never a mathematical person so perspective drawings are a little confusing for me).
I like the looseness of your new digital painting. Try not to overwork one area at a time. Make sure you're developing other parts of the painting along with the face.
Go, dude, go!!
Every artist was first an amateur.

Please, help out with critiques!
MeZergy - Thank you for your kind words! Here's a little update on the digital painting from ref. Your advice about not overdoing one area at a time really helped me pick up the pace! Thanks for that Hopefully I'll finish it this evening.
Decided to clean up this environment painting and add some more textures. Still could use some work though, so feel free to drop any critiques
WOW man , that last painting is GREEEAT .. really love it
Great mood in that landscape! You might want to try out this or this as alternatives to posemaniacs, they have real people and animals.
These quick pose tools are usually used for gesture drawings, quick drawings all about capturing the energy and essence of the pose, rather than anatomy or structure. Don't think about edges or anatomy much while doing these. Just draw the pose and nothing else at first, and if you have more time add detail.
Vertical - Thanks! I tried using the Gesture Drawing Tool before, but the Script looks very helpfull too.
Martin C - That youtube video came in handy during class today! thanks!
Zenobia - Thank you!
I will try and dive into more anatomy studies over the coming weeks. I'd really love to draw something from the books I've been reading!
Below: a lousy pose drawing for today and a quick sci-fi taxi during class.
hard to say what you should do at this point. I think you just need to keep drawing and painting. doing it everyday and do it a lot. i do suggest joining the daily sketchbook here on CA, its under the community activities forum. I did it for years and it really pushed me to go beyond my own limited imagination and style.
You're still drawing contours in those gestures. They're not finished gestures and they're not meant to be, they shouldn't have clean lines like that and they don't need to be closed lines. Maybe you should try just using one line as the limbs.
You need to look for the pose itself, not the parts. Don't see a leg and especially don't see a rectus femoris, but instead see a downward thrust, or weight put on the knee, or an effort to balance.
Nice environments as usual As for critique, my only crit would be is to "do more" - sketching, painting, anything! As Sunny says, do it everyday and do it a lot
Sunny - I will follow up on that advice for the daily sketchbook, because you're right; I need to draw more and every day.
Vertical - You're right. All this time I did these pose studies to get the human form look right while I forget it's all about the pose. Instead, I really should focus on anatomy as others have said.
saltfox - Thank you You and Sunny are absolutely right though; I need to paint more and paint every day! I have a one week vacation now, but I'm tied up with lots of work/sleep over the first 5 days! ( It's carnaval here and I work a bar shift... so it's nothing but work/sleep/eat/work ! :p )
I will try to produce something useful today!
just dropped by to say thank you for your very encouraging post in my SB means a lot to me! I definitely will say a few things concerning your work, just need to find the time to do so. so Ill drop by another day, just wanted to say thank you right away !
Did some poses today and combined them with some practicing of Bridgeman, using blocks for heads, chest and pelvis.
I think I'm finally beginning to understand certain things.
- Piece 1,2 & 3: Gesture drawing tool sessions 90 secs.
- Last piece : Bridgeman head-chest-pelvis blocks study combined with 2 ref poses and 1 imaginary.
Great work Mila, keep it up! I especially like the use of color in post #32.
Hi Mila, just stopping by to say thanx for your comments! Keep up the good work!

Krystar - Thanks! It's my favorite environment so far :]
TheDistance - And thank you for visiting mine!
Rain Walker - Thank you :] The books should arrive tomorrow if all goes as it should. Then I'll start cranking out some serious anatomy studies! :]
During class: a painting from ref.
I could have sworn I posted this last night already, but it's not here anymore.. Weird.
Yesterday my books arrived! Some anatomy books as well as other goodies such as Digital Painting Techniques volume I & II.
Also started working on a new environment piece: Into the Jungle
Those houses are too sexy I love them... Keep going with the perspective practice...Your environment designs are really good.
try some sketches keeping the vanishing points out of the canvas it will give a natural view to the picture.
Your environments are all just amazing, as everyone has said. Your use of perspective is awesome. I loved the last forest environment you'd painted.. It's so great you're keeping up with your anatomy studies, and those posemaniac gestures as well . I'm sure it will pay off tenfold.
Can't wait to see where all of those books bring you too !
