So I've been working on a space-horror world building project. I just thought I'd stop to seek some crits on a creature design with which I seem to have hit a road block. The creature represents one strain of a vast array of biomechanical aliens that form an artificial zero-G based eco-system. The creature below is sort of a little brother to this guy.
I'm having some trouble with creating convincing joints and musculature. The challenge is that I also want to minimize any potential resemblance to terrestrial animals. This creature, for instance, does not need to look well suited to our gravity. I kind of imagine it scuttling erratically, flailing its arms. I want it to appear a little awkward while in our environment. I have this image in my head of a big honking gaggle of these guys bickering and awkwardly shambling/ scuttling around, tripping over trash cans. Then once having spotted a victim they spring into a jerky, erratic bum rush and attempt to strangle them or drag them off. Nothing really sneaky or subtle. I want it to have the creep-factor of having a june bug fly into your mouth. Right now I think the problem areas are mainly the hips, wrists and the point where the elbows/knees split into separate limbs. I think I have an alternative for the hips worked out but I'm open to any and all ideas from anyone who considers themselves to be anatomy geeks.
