This reminds me of part of the plot of Philip K. Dick's A SCANNER DARKLY, where the protagonist actually begins surveilling his own "deep cover" alter ego with remote cameras and treating himself as a separate person.
He winds up a near-vegetative, shambling shell of his former self. Small price to pay for art...go for it.
