I'm sure i'm not the only one who has heard that. Just recently I was uploading some drawings to my facebook, and I was talking to my friend about how I want to major in Illustration, and then some dude that she knows came in on our conversation.
And then he proceeds to go on a rampage. "Artists don't contribute to society! Whats the use of graduating from high school?! So you draw stick figures? Other people are actually helping the world!"
I seriously thought he was kidding at first, so I just said "lol" and then he just went off on another rampage.
Art already does alot to contribute to society. It reflects how your children behave, [television] it sets goals for some, it deepens our understanding of the human existence, it helps us describe and characterize ourselfs, and so much more.
I was wondering what other people's views were on this. Has anyone else had this, or something similar happen?
