Nice Paintings =D
Been a while since my last visit! Well, looks like you're still being very productive! And it looks great too! Thoughts on the last painting you made: Really great composition. Not too exiting, but it's clear you know how to use the good ol' focal point and fibonacci! The yellow "banner" and the little robo-thingy in the bottom really makes that painting. Not so sure about the spaceship though... colors seems a bit misplaced. Maybe you should consider painting something like a more dark (muggy green/yellow colors would be awesome) evil-looking (with lots of "wire-ry" details) kind of "mothership/flying fueldeposit -something" in the style of the little robot. And more little robot-thingys! Have them scout the area for what ever they may be looking for! If you want to carry on improving/modifying the painting that is.
Hey, thanks for stoppin by my book
and wow!! these enviros are fantastic! that's really the area of art on this site i've never really explored/suck at. so i can't accurately critique any of it, although for some of your portraits, i'd suggest pushing the darkest values under the eyelids, and similar places to really make that depth pop
....but i can't judge, and i do need to work on my painting!
I'm curious to know what your primary brush set is for some of these speeds. I know I know, it's not about the brush, but I really admire the hard edge you get, and the latest fully rendering enviro is one of your best, big strides are being made here.
Hey Wilkerson =)
Your rock rendering is still amzingly amazin' !
I just love your work, and particulary more "abstracts" ones, like the blue speed of 21st or the black and orange structure of 3rd
Ho and that jungle is amazing !
(Did I mentionned I'm amazed by your work ? : D )
great updates wilkerson!
I like the new thumbnails and the two finals that you posted with them. the rock texture is nicely done and the djungle piece I already liked as a wip turned out great.
last enviro (maybe wip?) looks promising as well.
If you made the astronaut interact with the scene some more I'd say you could even improve it. Right now the green light from the bottom is really eyecatching and intriguing. yet the person seems to be completely unimpressed by it. maybe you could make him look down, another one kneel down or even have them send someone down there with a rope.
It's just my first ideas about it but that could add something that implies a whole story and adventure behind this (already pretty) picture..
looking forward to more, mate!
Nice environments, you're composition, lighting and color are getting good!!! Keep ripping them out!!
Life is a long lesson in humility.
monotony: I see what you're saying, I am trying to imply a narrative but I don't think the rope idea would be right. What you said gave me another idea I may try.
thanks stalsby and fetch
Here's something I'm working on, any crits would be really helpful.
I really enjoyed looking through your color studies and environment thumbnails.
They were interesting overall and I think that makes them pretty successful.
I was curious as to how you get so much texture in your enviros? Custom brushes maybe?
As for that last piece that you were asking for crits on, I find it hard to offer a useful
crit because it seems so stylized. My personal taste would like to see some more hig values to push and pull the depth. It reminds me a lot of tom scholes' work and one
thing I think he pulls off really well with them is a sense of light, maybe try pushing
the light source? Just me rambling, but definately subscribing, keep it up
Just have fun.
Loving your environments! As for any crits on the last one I'd add something more to the rocks. They're pretty sweet rocks, but centered in the composition i feel like they could use some more elements to keep the composition interesting. Lookin pretty sick so far Keep it up!
Enviros, very impressive beautiful work!
AWSOME WORK!!!!! they are incredible, now which photoshop do you use? do you use a Wacom tablet?? incredible I love the outdoors one you have there. I really want to get into making those fantasy type landscapes that you have ( different of course ) but any tips you can give??
Again fantastic work keep it up!
thanks trap, its nice to hear that.
mike, jbrown, loki, thanks as well.
I use a cheap 8 x 6 genius tablet. Its not great but it works. I would love a wacom but unfortunately I can't afford it right now.
Sometimes you might make 3 bad paintings in a row, but the process gives you the knowledge to make the 4th a success.
I just feel like posting some pictures. These are from the last few months.
So these are not what I would call complete because I got bored/unsatisfied and moved on to something else.
Did a bit of a remix of someone's work, turning it into a factory of sorts.

I took about a month off, to think about where this career is going and decide what kind of pictures I'm going to make. I was feeling a bit disillusioned with the whole thing. Now I'm much better, actually less burdened, and I've gotten some work offers (unpaying so I didn't take them). Peter Konig was nice enough to respond to my email about working in other places.
Here's some new works, studies in new concept ideas and locales, trying to branch out a little more.
